Hey all, new to the forum. Looking at putting cameras on my home and have always liked Axis. working on a budget the best I can do is Axis companion cameras. Do I need to have the Axis Companion recorder to make the cameras work? thank for your help everyone!

You don't need the recorder. just use SD cards in each camera. Use a good quality card that will handle lots of read/writes.
Companion will detect the cards during initial setup. Be sure to note the difference between Camera Companion 3 and 4. The firmware in all your cameras has to b above a certain version to operate on Companion 4. Companion 3 is for older firmware.
