    You can have two switches on both ends and run two pairs of fiber for redundancy. You want the switches to support spanning tree though or there will be a layer2 loop.

    Thanks for your feedback wittaj. The current is only 300 mA so maybe my worries are unwarranted. The illuminator is expensive and I don't want to kill it or the camera by hooking them up the wrong way.
