    IP address setup

OH. there it is. silly me. and yes, that fixed it. minor annoyance, the local port has to be the same as the NAT port, so I can't have (wan):8881 forward to (lan):81 but thats not actually a big deal

    More recent IR illuminator recommendations?

um, huh? can you bet a little more specific? are you saying I should build my own waterproof enclosure and optics? and can you reference a source for these 'common led types' that are narrow angle ?

    Hikvision Product Comparison

4K cameras have tiny pixels, which means much weaker night vision, many cameras try and compensate for that by having much brighter IR illuminators, but those attract spiders who make webs all over your lens every night.

Looking for a camera installer in Northwest Arizona

A friend in bullhead Arizona asked me about camera systems, I'm too far away to really be able to help her and she's not really technical enough to manage and install and set up herself. So I told her I try to find a qualified installer in her area. Someone who's willing to come out. Out...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

note thats just for the data side, both switches will need power still, eg, you can't daisy chain the PoE off the first switch, as one port on it won't have nearly enough power to run N ports on the 2nd switch.

Is there a Blue Iris equivalent for Linux?

well, if the wireguard server isn't running ON the firewall router, you need to setup a port forward for wireguard (unless you are running uPnP, which allows any software on any system on your network to punch its own firewall holes without bothering to tell you).

hmmm, RF modulator/demodulators like a pair of these should give you 1Gbps over a run of RG8... this particular one is 75 ohm, I believe RG8 is 50 ohm and usually used with PL259 connectors. https://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-MoCA-Network-Adapter-Ethernet/dp/B088KVYZGK you MIGHT get away with...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

one good solution is to get an AP that has external antenna connectors, and get a 'sector' panel antenna with compatible pigtail. don't even think about 5Ghz, stick with 2.4Ghz. mount this sector anntenna facing the wood shed on a window, or run it outside and mount it on an outside wall...

only difference between a 568a and b cable is the colors of the pairs, as long as both ends of a given cable are the same a or b, then its all good. 8+2 switches that I've seen have 8 POE ports and 2 more non-POE ports which can be used as a passthrough (one for uplink, and one for downlink to...
