Sealing holes in concrete and vinyl siding

I tried to follow that but couldn't quite follow it. I think this works when you cut an access hole in the drywall to fish up through? I searched YouTube and found this video, and now I get it... Not sure what you mean about "Cut on end of it so it is curved" though. In my case for my...

    Drunk driver logic

I don't condone drunk driving, but, what he said made me chuckle: "An inebriated motorist assured Florida police that he was not drinking while driving, but only swigging from a bottle of Jim Beam bourbon when his vehicle paused at stop signs and traffic signals, according to a police report."

Sealing holes in concrete and vinyl siding

I felt like it was a stupid question when I was typing it, but I'm glad that I asked! It sounds like I should just be able to just come out through the outermost floor joist (what the heck is that one called?), or on the front of the house, through the rim/band joist. I'll need to do some...

Sealing holes in concrete and vinyl siding

Interesting, I haven't seen those before. So you're silicone'ing the insert in place and then around the cable itself? I saw they have them without the extra cutouts also. Is that what you meant, or was there a reason for the others...

Sealing holes in concrete and vinyl siding

It's dark outside now, but it's literally just a poured concrete foundation wall. Other areas will be your basic vinyl siding. The first camera I'm going to be putting up is going to be on the side of the house, somewhere at or below the bottom of the window opening. How far front-to-back on...

Sealing holes in concrete and vinyl siding

I have tried searching the forum for the correct way to seal the holes used to bring Cat6 through the walls, but I'm not having much luck for some reason. Cameras may come through the poured foundation wall, and through the vinyl siding. If there's already an existing post where this has been...

Full-sized locking rack with UPS...recommendations? Overkill?

Haha -- there's a whole lot more crap under there now too. The carpet can go in the trash -- it's garbage builder-grade carpet. I plan to put some sort of wood down through the house when time/money permits. I have a couple things right now but adding more. Building a CCNP rack, plus some...

Full-sized locking rack with UPS...recommendations? Overkill?

I have been trying to think of where I want to put this gear. I have my NVR, POE Switch, will try to relocate cable modem (but have some figuring out to do with that), patch panel. As a network engineer, I have various routers and switches I'd like to mount out of the way as well. I have a...

Setting up "rack" with POE cameras, can I use a Punch Down?

On another thought, when I finish out the basement I plan to build a closet around all the HVAC stuff. Perhaps that would be a good place to put a full or half rack. Hidden, out of the way, not a second source/direction of noise, and I can put my lab equipment in it too.

Setting up "rack" with POE cameras, can I use a Punch Down?

I do plan to have a separate POE switch in there, and a patch panel to home-run everything into. I just can't tell with the dimensions if there's room built into the door for cabling or not. :( It doesn't really look like it.

Setting up "rack" with POE cameras, can I use a Punch Down?

The Tripp-Lite rack specs depth of 16.5" and the Dahua 5416 is 16.2" deep. Is there room in the doors or whatever for power cable and ethernet cables?

Driveway camera coverage and lighting (pics)

I'm glad you mentioned that, that was actually part of the plan. I'm going to have a plate of bacon in front of each camera to hopefully get some great shots!

Driveway camera coverage and lighting (pics)

That's a lot of money and a lot of eggs in one basket, and it wouldn't really offer the coverage I am looking for. Neat camera though!

Driveway camera coverage and lighting (pics)

Below using 4K cameras 1/2.8" Blue = 4mm Red = 4mm Green = 9.5mm I would still use 4-12mm so that I would have the ability to play a bit as this isn't going to be 100% exact. This is a mock-up of the IPVM layout I have. My line of thought is that with the lighting I'll have available, I...

Driveway camera coverage and lighting (pics)

That is definitely something that I thought about. I do have a neighbor on the other side and would like to have a light with a flat cut off if at all possible. I'll have to go over there and see how things would look from his point of view. He actually offered to pay for an extra camera to...

Driveway camera coverage and lighting (pics)

Question 2. Kind of struggling playing with coverage, I might need to get an account to IPVM just so I can add multiple cameras. :nervous: I am prepared to pay the price for the appropriate camera. Driveway coverage for this part (have othe plans for the street for LPR). With adequate...

Driveway camera coverage and lighting (pics)

I do not have any lighting right now over the driveway right now, but plan to add a light on the side of the house to provide both security lighting and lighting for me when I am working on projects in the driveway. Question 1. Light mounted against the house, aiming down-and-out, I am...

    Dahua 8mp NON-Starlight HDW5830R-Z review

If I am interpreting this correctly, you can make out the plate with the 8MP at night/lights on, but not with the 2MP Starlight? I was hoping the 2MP Starlight would be able to do that.

Front door, flat house, vinyl siding ideas? (pics)

Oh I don't have a single problem with duct tape! Wife, well, not so much.:blankstare: Yeah the only overhang is way up at the roof. I don't get too much sunlight on the front door though, just some morning sun. Don't think I'd want to risk it though, not sure. I wish there was a place to...

I notice the LPR cameras state an IR range of 40m, and the IPC-HFW5231E-Z12 has an IR range of 200m. Anyone have thoughts on that? Maybe I'll get one of each and see what I like the best.:idk:

Front door, flat house, vinyl siding ideas? (pics)

Agreed, I would have to play with the height of the cam once I got it close to the house. I read somewhere between 6-7 feet or so. Now what about the actual cam itself? What's the least tacky way to do this on vinyl siding?

I know watching packages is a big thing, thought the blue area might give a bigger overall picture of what's going on. Plus show that angle of the yard, and if people don't use the walkway. Again, I'm new.:D

Wow, 5.3 - 64mm! Do you have any shots from your cam? I can always temp mount it w/ a stick/bucket or something to see what truly works the best. @nbstl68, I will check out those cameras. In plain English, what do they do extra?
