Question about system setup
I have the dahua nvr5216-4ks2 and I have an 8 port Poe switch for my cameras. My main question is do I connect the NVR to the router directly and then the switch to the router directly? I've tried searching but that question still gets me. I wanna say that's how I do it but not 100% sure.- Chase

If I set up a VPN on my home network (for the security system) does every electronic unit that wants access to my wifi in the house have to then sign into the VPN? This is the non-Poe port version. For those who have and are using this model can you tell me how noisy this nvr is? What about the heat output? In pictures I don't see a fan on the back of the unit... is there a different fan in this model or none at all thus making this near silent? -

I can't speak for it yet but I just bought the NVR5216-4KS2 yesterday from @EMPIRETECANDY . I have read nothing but great reviews so far from people on here who have it. I recommend buying from Andy (EMPIRETECANDY) ... he seems like a great guy and does his best to answer/help with any... -

I wouldn't do that. You'll get a lot of glare from the window and it will make your picture look like crap. Mount it outside. -

Does a single cat 5 cable running to this camera (or any ptz) from a Poe switch or Poe capable nvr power the camera? Or do you need an additional power supply? -

Why are external switches more flexible and less limiting than internal poe switches? Amazon.com: BV-TECH 8 Port 120W 10/100Mbps Power over Ethernet Switch - Designed for IP Camera Use(Gray): Computers & Accessories Is this a good option for the 6 cams to connect to then the uplink port to the NVR?- Chase

That was my thinking too... Are the POE ports on the Dahua or Hikvision NVR's reliable? The cameras would then be wired directly into the NVR for power and transmission. Any recommendations on a basic 16 channel NVR? I am interested in the starlight turret cams and maybe 1 ptz cam.- Chase

- I have heard that statement before about choosing Turrets over Bullet cams but still don't completely understand why? Is it just a better picture? - Why would I have issues if I used Powerlines? Right now the cams would receive power from the switch.
