    So is this the sort of thing that might happen after a severe thunderstorm? A camera needs a reset or restart? Also I had presumed that the best and most recent cameras were probably gigabit capable.

    Some PoE switches only have PoE on half of the ports. Some PoE switches are only rated 10/100mbps. Some PoE switches offer managed switch features which are useless on a tiny home network. What about the switches that have gigabit network ports but non-gigabit camera ports?

    On Ebay you always want to look at the vendor with care. Has the seller sold a lot of pcs? Do they have a good 99%+ reputation? Are they located in a reasonable place? Do they carefully describe the item in detail? Are the shipping charges reasonable? Do they guarantee customer satisfaction?

    Yeah, SADP says it is "active." It has a reset button. _UPDATE_ I got it working. I did a POE powerup with an immediate 20 sec reset button push. It went inactive. Then it allowed me to set a password.

    Just received a DS-2CD2042WD-I with V5.5.0_170725 which rejected 12345. The Hik-connect box is checked. What can I try? It says only 5 attempts are available. It has a reset button, but it doesn't seem to help.

    I just set up VPN on my Linksys router. Basically I had to set up a DDNS first. I used noip.com since that seems to be free, so I created an account there. Then I logged into my router admin page and entered my noip account information. Then I turned on VPN (a button on the router admin page)...

    Ah, but is port-forwarding considered safe anymore? I think VPN is the new approach. _EDIT_ Yikes. Apparently VPN is much more complex than I had hoped.
