is there a "best practices" guide for camera setup in BI?

That is correct correct. There is a global setting too under the main settings, but I found toggling it didn't stop the hw decode for me. I had to change it in each cam like your screenshot.

is there a "best practices" guide for camera setup in BI?

FWIW, I did what wittaj suggested about a week ago and disabled the hardware acceleration on all my cams. On average my CPU usage stayed right about the same, however memory usage went down a bit. Clock speeds and power consumption stayed about the same too. I have 14 cams, all but 3 of...

Warning ! BI update 5.8.0.11 will corrupt your database and will lose alerts.

Just tried that, (knocks on wood) and everything seems okay. I think I'm gonna start letting a version soak for a few days and check here for any issues before updating. I'm always updating to the latest and greatest but I've been dodging a couple bullets lately :)

Blue Iris Clips and Files - Disk Usage Utility

    I just noticed something. How come sometimes it's going by total GB and others total TB? :) Folder: O: Camera Type Count Total_TB Avg_GB Max_GB #Days Oldest Newest ------ ---- ----- -------- ------ ------ ----- ------ ------ TOTAL bvr 150...

    Problems with recordings

I'm not sure of the issue then. I was just speculating based on some recent posts. FWIW, it's probably best to refer to specific version numbers. The memory leak was resolved in 5.8.0.7.

    Problems with recordings

What version are you running? I just read there was an issue with the database in .10, but fixed in .11. For me the memory leak was fixed a couple versions ago.

Warning ! BI update 5.8.0.11 will corrupt your database and will lose alerts.

.11 has been good for me so far. I think I updated to it yesterday AM. I had gone from .9 to .11 though, so sounds like I got lucky.

How many days of video do you keep for a home system?

This is actually pretty slick and I didn't realize it was even an option. I have a cam in my detached garage, that I usually only had record when triggered. I just set it up to run continuous sub + trigger. Pretty slick, you can still see everything but soon as it gets triggered, it goes...

How many days of video do you keep for a home system?

I'm kinda in the same boat. Originally I only had about a week, but wanted a few more days. Enough to cover being on vacation for a week with a little padding on either end. I added a couple extra 2tb drives I had laying around collecting dust in an enclosure. Depending what drive I'm...

How many days of video do you keep for a home system?

Just curious to see how many days you all try to save your video on your home system.

Do I need to "Optimize" my SSD that contains the New folder.

Wow that's a lot of cameras. I'm not sure what the use case is, but I think you might actually want only continuous. I believe sub + alerts only records the substream, and records the main stream when the cam is alerted. If you set it to continuous, and check record dual streams if...

    Blue Iris AI & Zones

One thing I've noticed when having multiple motion zones is AI doesn't seem to analyze anything that is not covered by a motion zone.

IP Cam Talk Custom Community DeepStack Model

I have it loaded, and it seems to be kinda working. Some of the images analyzed it sees a positive result. Some get that unable to create yolo detector error. But even the ones that work are higher than my 50% threshold but I still never see those in my alert list. Maybe it's how I have...

IP Cam Talk Custom Community DeepStack Model

I totally forgot I started playing around with the delivery models. I have them installed and configured globally and per camera. But I'm never getting them identified. Under the AI tab on a alert, I'm seeing "Unable to create YOLO detector for model Delivery" I am using the onnx files...

Do I need to "Optimize" my SSD that contains the New folder.

As others mentioned, I'd just record directly to the spinning disks. Recording to one, then moving just creates extra work and wear on the SSD.

Shutter speed and other settings for night colour image (IPC-T5442TM-AS-LED).

Making a little progress. My results thus far.. I've only tweaked 3 of my cams so far, using BI to schedule the shutter and gain. A couple I keep in day mode with enough ambient lighting. But even 1/30 shutter at 50% gain is leaps and bounds better than default settings regarding motion...

    h264 or h265

Just came across this and figured I'd give it a try swapping my 4k cams over to h264. Low and behold, h265 is the only option. Annke C800s, Hikvision oem. I know they're cheap cams and you get what you pay for. <shrug>

Shutter speed and other settings for night colour image (IPC-T5442TM-AS-LED).

Great post. This should be stickied somewhere if it isn't already. I've had a few Hikvision based cams for awhile, but the image has been good enough I really haven't tweaked much. But after adding a new 180* unit for my driveway the conditions are just right for some terrible motion ghosting...

Send Pushover notifications with pictures and hyperlinks

I haven't found a way. But I made two macros in the main settings using %8 and %9. Those two contain everything I need to use in the alert. So if I ever need to change the lan IP, there's only one place I need to do it. I had to use two because it was too long to have in one.

    5.8.0.9

Does this affect your pushover powershell script at all? I imagine it's still doing my resizing for me. I know Ken is a busy dude, but I wish we could see these detailed changes in each update besides what's in the major point release. :)

    Paxvigo EBF810

That's probably a question to ask China. :D Joking aside, I don't know. I noticed only one IR LED works too, I suspect it's a firmware thing. FWIW, I've got mine mounted finally giving me a wide view of my driveway. I keep it in day mode though because I have a light on my flag that...

BI Status Icon often red, cameras tab Clips, all white/black reversed, why?

I think when it turns red, a camera has had a loss of signal or the FPS has dropped below what you have set in the cameras settings.

    Paxvigo EBF810

It took me longer than I care to admit to realize you were talking about the clingy protective film on the outside :lmao::lmao: On a side note, I'm bookmarking that manual PDF. I honestly haven't messed with the shutter speed on any of my hikvision oem's Overall I've been pretty happy...

    Memory leak on version 5.8.0.5

Interesting. I'm going to have to try this and compare usage stats. I still have hardware acceleration (intel) turned on for all my cams, even those with substreams. Curious what if any difference it would make with a couple 2/3mp cams I have that don't support sub streams. Will do some...

They really do look so much better blended in. My friends and neighbors think I'm nuts with cams all over my house and garage. :)

That reminds me. I used to see ads for a birdfeeder with a built in camera to catch up close shots of them when they'd fly up to eat.

Painting a camera to help it blend in

That works way better than the built in forum search function. I did search but got so many un-related results I got pissed and made a new thread. :) That's an idea! I actually have used a similar idea for mounting "smart" motion sensors outside. They give a little protection, plus...

Painting a camera to help it blend in

The thought has came to mind several times over the years but I never really had a solid reason for it But I'm thinking about adding a camera to my deck which is a dark brown. That white camera is going to stand out like a sore peter. The one I'm thinking about using has a plastic housing but...
