OK, here is the thing, in the daytime you should be running gain as low as possible, this reduces ISO and in turn quality should significantly improve, potentially at least. I can promise you these Pro's do not like NR or sharpening, it fries the brain even more. Mine is running 15fps and will give same results at 20fps or even 25fps, remember mine is a ZE turret. I switch mine to IR 30 minutes before sunset, at least, sometimes 1 hour. Light is bad in the UK though. -

I will put my 54Pro ZE which covers a road on max zoom tomorrow and just make sure it still gives me good freeze motion, at the moment it is on around 50% zoom, possibly 60%. Yes and no! - during the day mostly I find my Pro's are OK, low light or night is when the processing takes the wheel! otherwise I can get them to nail motion pretty good, all be it on 0.95ms shutter. The light in @bigredfish samples is very good, maybe too good and this is causing other issues... -

This is odd, the white SUV looks fine, something isn't right, I can get better results in the UK :( where the light is poor. You could drop the shutter to 0 - 0.7ms, but even on 1ms it should be better. Assuming you on H264H, high bitrate, no NR and no sharpening (initially at least), backlight... -

100% this, the sliders and numbers, particularly shutter speed are of no relevance on these at this point. Your quote re the 5442's hit the nail right on the head, at this stage the real upgrade from a 5442 is....a 5442 S3! if you don't already own one. The 2MP starlights were such an easy buy... -

That is good to know, others have mentioned the upgrade being enough that they replaced other older 5442's. Mine I believe are the earlier models. I shall need to invest in some good external IR's, or at least one initially. -

I have a couple of 5442 original bullets, hands down the best cameras I own for seeing into the darkness. Interested to swap one for an S3 to see if there are any benefits. Simply amazes me the ability those 5442's have with onboard IR. -

I always experiment with fps, mostly I never need more than 10-15, only maybe on critical cams I will run 20. There are some occasions where I find more detail and better freeze frame on higher fps and certainly higher bitrate, as always, find your sweet spot. For me as per many others, quality... -

Well that was known as false hope, 20 minutes after sunset, Pro is in IR and looking a bit of a mess, whilst the S3 and 4K continue as expected. I will leave it running at 10fps to see how the colour mode works out overnight, I have it switch in about 4 hours time. -

I recommend testing 10fps if you can bare it :) mainly because I know that I have been to 15 in the past and didn't see a difference. I am pretty sure 10fps has helped in brief testing, light is terrible and raining also, still giving good results. I will leave it on 10fps overnight, will soon... -

This cause/effect, is a big problem for these cameras, I see it all the time in either exact ghosting of the vehicle or 'ghosting follow shadow', as above behind the golf cart. Normally most noticeable in poor lighting and presumably once the auto processing/NR kicks in. -
