Pfsense on Blue Iris PC or Separate PC?

From my vague understanding of them I don't see the usefulness of VLAN's in a home network. I don't have any significant data flows from one device to another except for the camera sub-net. Everything else just wants access to the outside world. The annoyance to me is that a typical home router...

Pfsense on Blue Iris PC or Separate PC?

I have been wondering about this topic. I just got another Optiplex SFF to play with. If I load this one up with pfSense and place it between my cable modem and my WRT3200ACM router -- what would be the effect? I like the idea of being able to log network traffic and monitor bandwidth usage so...

    How to modify "Onvif User"?

This is an old thread, but I just ran into a similar issue. I don't really understand the difference between the two accounts. I wanted to change my admin password and apparently this introduces a risk. I couldn't even log in until I ran the ConfigTool. Can someone please explain the Dahua login...

Configuration for Internal Home access only

I guess I don't understand what you mean by "home viewing only." Certainly you can operate the monitor on the BI server and see the cameras even if the server is not connected to the network provided by the router.

    Camera Isolation from Internet

Uh, yeah, but I don't think it would take much cleverness to know what the gateway of the subnet is.

    Camera Isolation from Internet

Okay, I don't know what effect a bogus gateway address might have.

    Camera Isolation from Internet

I had thought about entering bogus DNS addresses into my cameras but that doesn't make sense. A device would not need to use DNS to "phone home." It would have those ip addresses hard-coded.

Alljoyn Router on Win 10 ?

I disabled it and of course there was no effect. What I don't understand is why pc's would ever need to participate in IoT network traffic?

    Aloha from Reno Nevada

I was curious about those Costco Lorex systems. The price seems too good to be true unless the 4k cameras are junk.

I need some help with the time stamps on my cameras

No, I mean it was that darn "Allow other computers to sync to this computer" checkbox. That was the problem.

I need some help with the time stamps on my cameras

Oh heck, it was just that checkbox. Duh.

I need some help with the time stamps on my cameras

I can't get this (NetTime) to work. Are you sure it is a server and not just a client? And as a server it will service multiple ports? My Hikvision cameras have a NTP test button, and they say the test fails.

Alljoyn Router on Win 10 ?

I just noticed that Windows 10 runs a service called "Alljoyn Router" that is supposed to allow IoT devices to communicate. This seems like a bad idea.

I'm a little confused about this issue. Can't each camera keep itself synched to an NTP server?

    Dahua 2MP Starlight Lineup

Is there an easy way to tell if a Dahua camera is a "Starlight" model? Is there perhaps a digit in the part number or a list of all of them somewhere? Thanks.

    BI Network Configuration

I think most people here use a pc with an added NIC card. The pc motherboard has a built-in NIC so they then have at least two networks available (or more if it was a multi-NIC card). They then use a gigabit (uplink side) PoE switch to connect and power all of the cameras. The cameras are each...

    Find/Inspect... Camera Make/Model

I have used the BI "Find/Inspect" button to configure most of my cameras and it identifies them as "Generic/ONVIF" Is there any advantage to try to adjust this setting to a more specific Dahua or Hikvision model identification? Thanks.

Yeah, I have something messed up. I have one clip and every new trigger from the camera appends to that one clip.

    Typical Budgets?

Since I've now gotten into gear with purchasing the remaining items needed to assemble a working system I've been tracking the total spent with an Excel spreadsheet. It is totaling a bit more than I had expected. Was anyone else here surprised by the total they ended up spending?
