    Today's FCC Ruling

That's a good question. It is unclear. As you say, devices with Hisilicon chips are covered as part of the NDAA ban, and the FCC plan is based on the NDAA ban, so it could include Hislicon based devices as well. On the other side, Hisilicon chips are declining in availability and usage...

    Today's FCC Ruling

This is John from IPVM. Thanks for posting this. Dahua and Hikvision have already stated they plan to oppose this. For what it's worth, the NY Times covered this and says they expect it to unanimously pass in several weeks: However, Dahua, Hikvision, Huawei, etc. could sue the US government...

What do you think of Dahua's "Uyghur Warnings"?

Last week, IPVM and the LA Times published reports about Dahua's "Uyghur Warnings'. See Major camera company can sort people by race, alert police when it spots Uighurs and Dahua Provides "Uyghur Warnings" To China Police I am curious what people here think about this.

    Capturing Drivers Faces

This IPVM test might be interesting to you - Testing Polarizing Filters on HD Cameras It's not super practical since it requires buying a special lens and attaching it to a box camera but it does show examples of how to help get such an image.

Accuracy of camera FOV and other specs

"Do you think it's just a transcription mistakes on datasheets or could there be something else?" No, it's not a typo. Manufacturers actual AoV specification routinely vary, by design, from the listed imager size / focal length. The only wrong thing is that in the database it is stated to have...

Accuracy of camera FOV and other specs

This discrepancy is definitely a long term issue. For context, what we (IPVM) do in our Calculator is to enter manually all manufacturer's AoV information rather than estimate using the focal length. We have not heard significant problems using that approach.

Heads up on the latest Hikvision IP Camera Kits

"have a SD card slot but they don't record video." Why would they have an SD card but not be able to record video with the SD card? I think I understand you correctly but am I confused? Did you ask Hikvision technical support? What did they say?

    Pelco Cameras

Pelco used to be a huge company but has declined over the past decade. They were spun out last year from a huge French company and recently acquired by Motorola, the American company that owns Avigilon. If you are having issues with Pelco, I would recommend talking to the integrator involved...

    Are there 'HDR' Cameras

In video surveillance, manufacturers typically refer to HDR as WDR, though, some like Bosch call it HDR in their IP cameras. Both 'combine' frames at least for those that offer 'true' WDR and not 'electronic'. Our (IPVM) WDR Guide may help.

    Dahua bound account

Maybe it's actually used. I've never heard of a truly new device that was already bound / associated with someone else's email. I don't know how to resolve the issue but the issue itself should not happen with a new device.
