    Ring network data

I have an original Ring doorbell and at first it seemed interesting, but the design is flawed. It sends video clips to your phone, which is a dumb idea because mobile data rates are too slow for that, at least for me. One network security concern was that the device can be stolen or removed...

    Ring network data

Found this and thought it was interesting... ...however what I would like to do is capture the video myself and terminate the subscription service.

BI on PC or dedicated NVR

Well, everything takes some processor power, but if you use a multiplier playback speed on multiple images that is where I notice that the cpu usage can really jump up.

PassMark - CPU Comparison Intel i5-6500 vs Intel i7-6700 vs Intel i7-4790 Processor power is needed for playback, not record.

    Mailbox or curbside camera?

I think that white flowerpot with two illuminated red rings of IR LEDs might attract the wrong kind of attention from teen thugs at 2am.

    Mailbox or curbside camera?

My best option is probably near the mailbox (blue dot) however it would need to be hidden and armored against damage. My next question would be for any proven megapixel/lens/distance charts?

    Mailbox or curbside camera?

Okay, my house has the red roof. The house with the brown roof is vacant and is attracting unwanted visitors. My property lines are approximated by the red lines. I was hoping to capture the license plates of the vehicles driving on Haw Rd.

    Mailbox or curbside camera?

Thank you. I was not aware of the LPR sub-forum. I have a corner house so parked cars are not an issue, however hiding and securing the camera would be a major challenge.

    Mailbox or curbside camera?

After some trouble with the vacant house next door I am wishing I had a camera that would acquire readable license plates, as cars drive past my house. Who here has experience with that? Thanks.

Event awareness and video review methods?

So it reduces false trigger because the areas must trigger in sequence and not at the same time?

    Setting Day/Night/Normal on a Starlight?

I have a IPC-HFW4239TP-ASE that is behaving oddly. It doesn't seem to want to stay in day mode. I get a white screen. Is there a trick to this? EDIT -- I found the problem. I had taken the "Day" profile off of "auto" so the shutter speed was too slow.

Event awareness and video review methods?

I have a terrible nighttime situation for my front yard. The curve in the road causes stark headlight-illuminated tree shadows to sweep across the yard. I don't see how any camera would be able to ignore them and yet catch other movement. I am guessing that some other sensor scheme will be needed.

BI - Blue Iris Digital IO and IoT

I got the text-messaging feature to work yesterday and that seems like it could be very useful.

BI - Blue Iris Digital IO and IoT

Okay, so is this communication in both directions? You can trigger an alert with a digital input from the Arduino. Will a BI alert from a camera send a digital output back to the Arduino?

Event awareness and video review methods?

If a PIR sensor triggers it wasn't just a shadow or a headlight or the sun reflecting off a windshield. I can make camera triggers less sensitive and I can make them ignore areas of the view but they still can't tell the difference between a person and a shadow. Can they?

Event awareness and video review methods?

So how do you actually review your videos? I have some cameras that trigger on many bogus events due to shadows from passing car headlights or wind motion. The vast number of bogus triggers makes it difficult to review the recordings to see is anything "significant" occurred. I am thinking that...

BI - Blue Iris Digital IO and IoT

Interesting. I had not seen that conversation. So the Arduino sends bits which can trigger BI. What is your planned application?

BI - Blue Iris Digital IO and IoT

I noticed that the BI options menu has a settings tab for "Digital IO and IoT" which includes the following fields... -Serial port -MQTT -Sealevel Systems -Control I have been thinking of using a Raspberry Pi or Arduino to monitor some temperatures and some PIR motion detectors. It would be...

    BI Network Configuration

I just looked at my gateway router logs and the router seems to know about my camera sub-nets. How can this happen? I can't reach the the cameras on the subnet with my browser. Are the cameras somehow getting past the BI server? Do I need to edit the firewall? (question edited for clarity 3:23pm)

Blue Iris Tools - Weather Overlay, Watchdog & more!

So BIT interfaces with BI, and can pass it overlay information. Could BIT retrieve overlay information from a Raspberry Pi and pass it to BI? Can BIT trigger a BI alert? What I'm thinking of is perhaps a Raspberry Pi that is monitoring an alarm system or temperature probes?

My experience after 4 years with Blue Iris. Don't be like me. You will be much happier.

The most important performance settings that I have stumbled across as a newbie are these... For each camera set Camera Properties... Video>Hardware accelerated decode: Intel Record>Video file format and compression... Video compression: Direct-to-disc

    Dahua 2MP Starlight Lineup

I just got an HFW4239TP-ASE Starlight and I am trying to compare it to my HFW4433M-I2. How the heck do I set these two up so it is a fair comparison of night sensitivity? Thanks.

Pfsense on Blue Iris PC or Separate PC?

Well, I don't know what to think. Pc's have never been thought of as good "real-time" devices, because they sometimes get busy doing something else, like refreshing dram, so I wonder if a wimpy pc could end up producing erratic ping times or something bad like that?

Pfsense on Blue Iris PC or Separate PC?

The problem is: don't most of those things run on Linux while BI runs on Win10? So you have to run them inside a VM?
