Mmm. Good point wittaj. Maybe these clever Chinese engineers find ways to get the results their bosses demand.

    Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L)

What an interesting assessment CCTVCam - thanks for that. Unfortunately, though, I don’t completely share some of your detail or your conclusion. 1. Clearly, noise changes the voltage presented to the a/d converter and you could argue that if you double the gain, so you double the error...

    Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L)

wittaj, many thanks once again for taking the time to correspond. Although I was seeking a technical explanation and not layman’s terms, it looks like your reply and the link verifies my opening words on this topic - gain does not cause ghosting, it‘s exclusively noise reduction. Shall we...

    Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L)

Many thanks for replying wittaj. If you take the effects of noise reduction out of the argument, are you able to provide a technical explanation please? I just don’t see how ghosting can occur as a result of even the highest gain setting, or that shutter speed is a factor that we all normally...

    Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L)

I notice that this thread has become very active. But there seems to be a theme that increasing the gain also increases ghosting. Would some learned person please explain? My understanding is that ghosting is caused exclusively by the noise reduction averaging the image from many sequential...

    Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L)

Alastair, I think there’s a problem with the resolution of the picture temp.png you posted. The whole scene is blurry and so does not show the effect of DOF, presumably taken with the 6mm variant. Oh just a minute - a .png so perhaps not.

    Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L)

‘Smart supplemental light’ setting or whatever you want to call it is absolutely definitely the wrong way to correct over exposure. Far better for the software in the camera to control the gain, exposure, gamma, BLC, HLC and the like when the image brightness approaches its end stop. We all...

    Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L)

Picking up on your comment about the LEDs causing changes in exposure and gain to avoid saturating or clipping the bright area of the image, it is still surprising to me that it has not been possible, together with control of illumination strength, to completely eliminate the never-ending...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Solved it! It occurred to me I could google the problem and discovered that the I350-T4 together with a family of other PCIe-16 cards block the SMbus signals (whatever they are), disabling one of the two DIMM slots. So, if you only have one stick in this slot, the PC does not even boot and...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

I have a different NIC problem. I bought a very cheap HP NC360T dual port network card, splitting my cameras into two streams. Works fine. I then bought a Dell Intel I350-T4 quad port network card to use instead so that I could use three streams instead of cascading a switch. Although the...

    Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L)

Kevin Doe actually raised a good point. I'm not an expert photographer but can kind of understand that a very wide aperture, large sensor and perhaps large lens let in loads and loads of light, so giving this camera its fantasmagorical low light performance. I also guess that the reason for...

IPC-HDW5231R-ZE Rhea V2.800.0000016.0.R.200430 Latest new firmware

Happened to see this thread. I’ve always thought that if there’s significant change to the firmware, it‘s reasonable to believe that putting the old config back will not work properly for all parameters? Anyway, I reverted to v13 months ago and sticking with it.

    5.3.8 - January 12, 2021

Blue Iris now running as a service . Yet again, many thanks guys for your help. I eventually twigged that when I log into Windows, the login window shows my name and I use a PIN. But if I choose to log in with my password instead, I need to use my email and not my name. And, it looks like...

    5.3.8 - January 12, 2021

Thanks for the reply. My recollection (could be wrong) is that there was a similar looking window that I left blank when I installed 5.3.3.4 and was accepted. But, underlining my lack of understanding, now when I reboot the PC, a window with the user name "david" has started to appear (as the...

    5.3.8 - January 12, 2021

I post this problem in trepidation. Having updated from 5.3.7.12 to 5.3.8.4, Blue Iris restored all settings and runs fine except it's now no longer running as a service. Unfortunately, BI now prompts for a password to restore service. So far as I know, my windows password is blank but I've...

CPU from 67% to 82%+ After Update to 5.3.7.11 (same was true after update to 5.3.7.5)

Mike, so far as I know, product development comprises one man. I’m sure that a great many users prefer him to keep on releasing new features following limited testing and then fixing the bugs that arise using feedback from those users who are willing to trial the updates. Given the huge...

CPU from 67% to 82%+ After Update to 5.3.7.11 (same was true after update to 5.3.7.5)

Similar problem here too with 5.3.7.12. Most camera streams stop working, this time one camera of thirteen has cancelled Intel HA. OK for a couple of days and then see iPad app pictures. Has now happened twice since updating to v12. Roll on v14...

Change PTZ Presets based upon BI Motion Zones?

I wouldn’t call it “the poor man auto track” wittaj, I’d call it brilliant! All the many who who criticise the sometimes very unpredictable autotracking built into PTZ cams should give this a whirl. I certainly will. I’m pleased it’s working reliably for you MakingCoffee. Does your evidence...

Network card not found in Windows 10 Pro

I‘ve been using the BI PC to search for a driver and either not found one or been on two sites that block the download saying that a virus was detected. Remarkably I eventually did think of using Device Manager but only the built in realtek network adapter was shown. Come to think of it now as...

Network card not found in Windows 10 Pro

OK thanks Mike. I tried downloading the driver as in your link but the clever software stopped , pointing out that I don’t have an Intel network adapter installed. And thanks again to you IAmATeaf (one day you should tell me how you constructed your forum name). I’ve just tried again for ages...

OK thanks. The card in your link didn’t mention being compatible with Windows 10. Is that guaranteed if it states i350 in the title?

Full height but I’m in the UK. Thanks for the instant reply. Would you compromise by getting an extra port using a USB adapter?

Network card not found in Windows 10 Pro

So it is a driver problem. Mike, thanks for the reply. I scoured the Internet (but with my limited skill level) for a driver and yes, had it been merely an unsigned driver I would have used it. I‘m guessing the chance of finding a compatible driver for a different card using the same chip is...

Network card not found in Windows 10 Pro

I bought a HP NC360T dual port gigabit NIC PCIE server adapter for my new system to isolate the cameras from the Internet using guidance from this forum. This was a complete success story. Also, sharing the cameras’ network traffic out (nearly 100Mbit/s) between two ports seems to have made...

New PC for BI - HDD size limit

OK guys, I concede and acknowledge. To use the phrase sebastiontoms mentioned above, I need to make loads and loads of “tweaks” - it’s a continuous process to get the best out of my new system. I have a couple of headline problems, one of which (a new quad network card) I will put to the forum...

New PC for BI - HDD size limit

I feel like I’m being shot at and should hide, especially since I know nothing about how PCs work. Nevertheless, I can’t resist trying to defend myself:- 1. If using a “New“ folder and putting it on the SSD is wrong, why is it that Ken Pletzer says, “...New on fastest storage possible because...

New PC for BI - HDD size limit

To conclude on this thread, despite all the brilliant advice from all you guys, I went ahead and bought a new HP 290 G4 MT i5-10500 8GB 256GB SSD Windows 10 Pro desktop to which I have added another 8GB RAM and a WD 8TB purple HDD. I am very pleased with it. After searching for a used PC from...

Assistance with removing condensation from Dahua HFW5231E-Z12

Hello bradner I see I still had this thread on ‘watch’. You say ‘front cover’. I hope you’re not trying to prise off the cast metal front cover! Your only supposed to ease up the thin neoprene-like self adhesive overlay inset within this at the very front to then reveal the screws that bolt...

New PC for BI - HDD size limit

Decisions decisions... One easy thing to put to bed is buying a laptop for my wife - a definite no no. She likes to sit at a desk and being a former secretary in the age of manual typewriters, wants a clunky keyboard. What‘s pushing me in the direction of another (used) PC for BI this morning...
