    Line-Crossing (Tripwire) vs. Motion Detection?

One nice thing about drawing an intrusion zone box is that you’ll get options to trigger when an object crosses any of the lines (so it works like tripwire) as well as an option to trigger if any object “appears” with the box. iMO, tripwires don’t always work great when near the edge of the...

    Review-OEM IPC-T3241-ZAS 2mp AI Lite series Varifocal

Normally if you use the Find/Inspect button in BI when adding a camera (and give it a username/password that has ONVIF admin rights) it will set everything up properly in BI but leaves the model as Generic. If you’re able to zoom/hear audio within BI, it sounds like it got everything setup...

Power still out 3 days later :(

I've been there. I live in coastal VA. Every two or three years we'll get the remnants of a CAT 1 hurricane that made landfall in OBX that motors up and may knock the power out for an hour or so. It's been 15 years since we've had a hurricane that caused a wide spread lengthly outage, but...

    Dahua Smart Motion Detection Setup

@Wildcat_1 might have some insight on if any parts of SMD can be used outside of with Dahua NVRs. The feature that lets you quickly search through recordings seems like it would have to require a Dahua NVR, but I'm not sure if SMD can trigger recordings on VMS like Blue Iris. None of my...

Would be interesting to see what you think of Dahua's DORI specs vs. how you personally find the snapshot to be. Zoomed in all the way, Dahua's DORI values have the Recognize distance at 52 m/85.3 ft and the Identify distance at 13m/42.7 ft.

NVR vs BlueIris. Which NVR for Dahua cams or build NVR? Power consumption?

I don't think Blue Iris can directly use the newer Dahua AI camera features. For example, many of the newer camera models have a Face Detect feature that will pull images of faces from the video stream and save them separately on the NVR so you can easily flip through them. I'm pretty sure...

IPC 4k 8MP 25-30fps hard to find - current generations

Yeah, that's how I started too. Over time as I added more and more cameras it forced a decision of either starting to reduce some FPS on cameras or throwing money towards adding more hard drive space. For me, it wasn't worth spending more money on HDD space when the only benefit was cars in...

    Upgrading IPC-HDW5231R-ZE to 4K

If you hover the mouse over the pointer, a little pop-up should appear to show you the current setting. Jot that down, then you can move the pointer to the sides to get the minimum/max settings, then repoint back to the current setting. It's unusual to see someone jump from a great low-light...

IPC-HDW5442T-ZE New cam from Dahua :)

@strafer, seeing @Zimberto's post above made me remember this... if you want to mount the camera directly to the wall (i.e. not use a mount), you'll have to drill a larger hole in the wall in order to pass the camera's thicker waterproof Ethernet connection through the wall. There isn't extra...

NVR for Dahua 5231 Starlight and a 6mp turret

If you want to use the better motion detection in Dahua (IVS) and Hik (Smart Events), that's important if you're going the NVR route. Most NVRs don't have enough horsepower to do their own motion detection so they rely on the cameras to do their own. Most cameras have a "basic" motion detection...

Review- OEM IPC-T2831T-ZS 4k varifocal starlight turret & PFB203W Wall Bracket.

You can estimate that by looking at the values in the DORI section of the spec sheet or by using IPVM Camera Calculator V3 and looking at the est image quality/PPF value. Heads up that many folks find Dahua’s DORI values to be a bit optimistic, so maybe mentally knock a few feet off of them.

Patience, grasshopper. lol From 2016-2019 the best affordable low-light sensor was the 2MP 1/2.8". It's only been a year since since the 4MP 1/1.8" became affordable, ... if the same timeline prevails, it'll be another year or two before that jumps.

Synology NAS NVR vs. a Standalone NVR

The usual advice is to match the NVR brand with the brand of your best cameras because sometimes the NVR can’t use certain camera features if the brands are mismatched. When it comes to Dahua/Hik cameras, advanced motion detection (IVS/Smart Events) is an example. If you have one of these...

    Soo much to read

I think most folks here would agree that the 5442 model is a safe one to start with. IMO the 4MP 1/1.8" image sensor it uses is pretty much the best bang for the buck in terms of low-light image quality. If you can order your cameras in phases, I think that'd scratch the itch to get going...
