I know I know… but I really want a good 8mp eyeball dahua. I have some of their 8mp and the quality makes it hard to look at the 4mp - 4mp is a noticeable drop in quality to me. If only that 8mp sensor would improve for better night time quality. I’d pay good money for this if it existed.
Get a small x86 machine with dual gig network ports, put openwrt on it. It’s amazing, better than any other consumer router you’ll buy.
Get a couple of the netgear wax610 access points (they are very good and WiFi 6).
This is what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B086MK4YB8
It frightens me to think about using Dahua P2P. I turn p2p off and access the cams remotely with my WireGuard VPN. But I saw another thread mentioning using P2P which made me wonder, do any of you use it? Do you have any insight into how secure it might be?
Prices on everything are going up. And taxes are going up in the USA. Ammo has more than doubled in prices. My home prices are going up. Even my Starbucks drink went up 30 cents. It’s not a good time to hold cash. Invest in IP cams
I have an IPC-HDW5831R-ZE that I'm trying to adjust the image quality on. See the two images 1) WDR off and 2) WDR on
Image 1: WDR off. Notice in the back yard how the area is too white.
Image 2: Now if I turn on WDR I can see the yard better but the image looks washed out.
Any tips on...
I have the same vto setup. I was able to add a sip phone (Linphone) on my desktop with these settings. Works great.
When it request the username/password, I just put:
Username: 9901#0
Password: 123456 (which is the default)
Note in the SIP Address above: sip:9901%[email protected] the %23...
I ordered two IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV and they are pretty bad. At first they seem like great cams but they start to completely fail as soon as there’s high information density on the screen. The cams will reboot and flicker. I have a long thread on this if you look at my history.
I have noticed the same. For the first time I’m returning two dahua cams. I hope some newer cams come out with good specs that actually perform. Seems they’ve tried to cheap out lately and sell cams with decent specs but don’t live up to them.
I have the VTO2202F-P and like it. I have poe right to my doorbell so I didn’t want wifi or anything cloud based.
Pros
it’s poe
It’s all local. No cloud. I turn off dahua p2p
onvif
dahua (so it works with dahua apps since I have all dahua cams)
the looks of it
the integration with Home...
I’ve been using this because it’s outdoor rated with an ip55 rating. 5 port (1 in, 4 out) ubiquity usw-flex. Zero issues and it’s outside in the rain and cold.
pros: looks nice. Ip55 rating. We’ll know company. Works as expected. Excellent build quality.
cons: the price. Some slight config to...
Smartpss has been pretty buggy for me but mostly works. You might try to completely remove smartpss and reinstall the latest version. Outside of that, can you install smartpss on a second computer to see if you are able to reproduce the issue or not?

Here's my router POE usage. It's running two access points and several cameras. Hardly using any power at all given the number of devices I have connected.
With these settings I'm still running into issues...
@wittaj I don’t use an nvr. I have an “unraid” storage array. I configure the cams to write out the videos and jpegs to my storage when there’s motion.
Home Assistant monitors for new files and will run them through DeepStack to detect humans. If a humans is found, I get the image sent to my...
@wittaj I can't thank you enough for you taking your time to help so many of us. You are obviously and expert in this area and it is really kind of you to take your time and help random strangers.

I ordered two of these cams. I just connected the 2nd cam and it has the same issues. I believe there’s a flaw with the camera hardware or firmware. The issue only happens when there’s high information density being recorded, for example when pointed at trees. Inside I have no issues. Both cams...
Yes it came with the right software. I also upgraded the firmware.

The new cam is in and it is working without issue. Tomorrow I'm going to setup the camera which I believe is defective outside at another location on a completely different cat6 run.
I currently have it connected to my switch on a short cable and don't see any issue but that matches what I'd...
@samplenhold im sorry, I didn’t mean it that way. I’m definitely going to try it once I swap in the new cam. Thanks again for all the help from all of you.
what’s weird is that when the lights are on at night I have non issues. Only during the day.
