    Standalone Cam VPN setup

I didn’t want to mess with my routers since I use them for VOD and setting my DVR away from home. Instead of buying a new router I decided to use a Raspberry Pi as a my vpn and then forward the port on my router to the Raspberry Pi. Just another option!

I know it's an old thread - found it by searching for IVS issues - @Titan912S did you ever figure this out?

    Dahua IPC-HDW5231RP-Z install help requested

Thanks @Nolesfan - I believe I'm up and running properly at the moment. I was able to login to the cameras through the NVR. I'm playing around with IVS now. Should be lots of fun!

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

@Crazykiller can you explain why your the "storage" settings only have "general" "alarm" and "ivs" checked and yet @keithl posted a setup picture has "motion detection" on. I just received my NVR yesterday and am trying to understand how to implement IVS and/or MD. Thanks!

    Dahua IPC-HDW5231RP-Z install help requested

This is perfect timing for me with this thread going. Thank you @Solar Deity as I believe I figured this out this afternoon. I do not have a POE switch but I do have enough old routers lying around and one of them has a 12 volt power plug that fits the 5231RP-ZE nicely. I couldn't for the...

    Dahua IPC-HDW5231RP-Z install help requested

I'm having the same issue as you but I don't have a POE switch. My NVR5216-16p-4ks2E arrived and I was able to place in the hard drive, format it and change it's ip address to a static address on my network. Next step is to communicate with the other IPc-HDW5231R-ZE cameras that also arrived...

    Dahua IPC-HDW5231RP-Z install help requested

Thanks for replying to this. I assumed this was a part of the the process - does it matter what browser is used to connect to the cams? I read there’s a special browser to use or a chrome extension instead? I was planning on initially using the Dahua config tool - are there any benefits from...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

I just got my DHL notification from Andy so I haven’t received mine yet. However, from reading I believe the process is the back up your configuration file, update the firmware, run a factory reset, and then restore your settings from the backup you made. I’m sure one of the much more seasoned...

Dahua 4k Starlight with 1/2 sensor (CVI only for now)

+1. I just ordered 4 x IPC-HDW5231E-ze from Andy and was going to order 3 x IPC-HDW5831E-ze after this first order arrived. Now I might hold off until these are available. I know they have not been officially released yet but if you were going to anticipate when these might be readily...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

I'm reading conflicting info in this thread. Can anyone specify the latest (stable) firmware version not causing random reboots etc? Is it DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_Eng_V3.215.0000000.3.R.20171211 Thank you.

    Running wires to NVR

Awesome - I was thinking something like this might be a better idea. HIDEit Uni-M | Wall Mount Bracket for Security System Components

Do these mounting locations look okay to you?

I edited some of the pics so the ones in the above post alone with these:

Both look great. How did you mount that NVR sideways against the wall? That’s what I would like to do as well.

Do these mounting locations look okay to you?

Wow thanks for all the feedback. It's truly appreciated. My photo editing skills suck so please bear with me. Tangent, the last picture you posted is something I never thought of but will think that over for sure. Based on your feedback, these pics are my next "ideas". Also on the last...

Do these mounting locations look okay to you?

Thanks mat200, Yes I'm hoping the purple arrow will cover the garage doors and driveway up to the street. I plan on placing a camera under the deck stairs facing the other side of the backyard and putting the red arrow camera under the fascia of the deck facing where I took the picture above...

Do these mounting locations look okay to you?

Hi, In another thread it was recommended that I lower my camera installation location if I wanted to be able to make a facial identification. I originally planned to use the top circles (on the picture) and now I am thinking of dropping them both down to the lower locations. In fact I think I...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

I ordered the NVR5216-16P-4kS2E from Andy but he only has NVR5216-16P-4kS2 in stock. Andy says "E" at the end extends the run past 800m which I do not need since my longest run will be under 150 feet unless I'm not understanding the number correctly. I'm assuming the 800m is per cat6 run but...

What bulk cable for 4k system?

You make a good point. If I’m spending $1500 on a camera system I can spend the extra $50 to ensure decent wire. Just picked this up. My IT friend want to kick me in the nuts. He says he’s got 1000’s of feet of CCA plenum cat6 that he would give me for free that he’s never had a problem with.

What bulk cable for 4k system?

Thanks Solar Deity I was looking for 1000 feet of cat6 and that looks like a great deal. I’ll pick up the “oversized” connectors as well.

Looking for Feedback on new Dahua components (brand new for me)

Thanks for the feedback. I've attached 2 new pictures. Think these would be better? Believe me I'd prefer moving the 2 cameras on the first attached pic since it would make my life much easier instead of being up on the ladder fishing through soffits into an attic I can't access. I was...

Looking for Feedback on new Dahua components (brand new for me)

Hi everyone, Thanks for taking the time to look at my thread. I posted yesterday about a Lorex system I was considering ( thread here: Looking for Advice before purchasing new camera system - Please help as I value your opinions. ) and have now decided to take the forum advice and go with a...

Looking for Advice before purchasing new camera system - Please help as I value your opinions.

mat200, thank you for your reply. I did reach out to Andy and his prices are comparable. I will be looking into Dahua components based on what I've read here and concentrate on turrets only after reading suggestions from everyone. It seems like the IPc-HDW5231R-ZE have a better low light...

Looking for Advice before purchasing new camera system - Please help as I value your opinions.

Hi everyone. I'd like to thank you in advance for taking the time to help me on what I consider a very important decision to make. My goal is to install a POE camera system for my house. I'd like to have as close to 360 degree protection as possible if possible. I plan on running my own cat...
