Use cases for AI NVRs in a home setting?

Ya, I just took delivery of a NVR5232-16P-4KS2E . Andy was out of the 5216, so he gave me the 5232 at the same price. I'm not sure how you hook-up cameras 17-32 to though. Not that I will ever need more than 16.

***PSA for those with a New DAHUA NVR with Built-in PoE switch

When you say 'from the camera itself', do you mean by logging into the camera using the IE icon? If so, the only thing I could find there is under System --> General. But the name there does not correspond to the default name and changing it, does not update the camera name shown in the camera...

***PSA for those with a New DAHUA NVR with Built-in PoE switch

What version of the interface are on you on? I am running 4.0 and do not see a settings section, but instead a management section. Camera within Management does not have the name option.

Thanks. one other question - for now :) Where do you set the 'CAM name'? I feel this should be obvious, but cannot find where on either the NVR or on the camera itself.

Just received my nvr from Andy and am setting it up. I click the blue IE icon, log into the camera and I am immediately presented with this this screen" I assume I should uncheck P2P? Thanks.

    Dahua cameras alerts

VPN aside, I too am trying to understand the best way to allow for notifications to work and stay secure. a thread I started: https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/if-you-properly-lock-down-you-nvr-computer-how-do-you-get-notifications.46564/#post-432005 Still not 100% certain if I am on the right...

How did you do it? I have ‘watched’ a couple of threads I am not participating in and I can see no way to recall those ones.

Review- OEM IPC-T2831T-ZS 4k varifocal starlight turret & PFB203W Wall Bracket.

I just bought three 5442’s (and a nvr) from Andy this past Saturday. Figures. I think 2k of the 5442 will be fine for me, but a little upset I could have gotten these with varifocal for pretty much the same price I paid for the 5442. how do you feel these comapre to the 5442 in low/no light...

If you properly lock down you nvr/computer - how do you get notifications?

Okay, I bought and set up an Asus RT-AC68U router. I don't have my NVR yet, but in the screen shots below, I am pretending my skybell doorbell camera is my NVR. Here is what I think I will need to do: 1. In the Network Map, block the NVR from accessing the internet: 2. In the firewall...

***PSA for those with a New DAHUA NVR with Built-in PoE switch

Thanks a lot for this thread. I have a NVR5232-16P-4KS2E coming from Andy. This is my first nvr and I know your tips will come in handy.

Thinking about HDW5442TM-AS - looking focal length suggestions - pictures inside

Thanks. Yes, I have thought about doing that as well. But was thinking it would be best to use a 4mp varifocal as well. Seems in Dahua's lineup (or at least what is available to Andy right now) the only 4mp varicam is a bullet style - which I know are not favorites due to spiders finding...

If you properly lock down you nvr/computer - how do you get notifications?

Thanks. My understanding is VLAN functionality is less important (or not required at all?) when using a NVR vs. a computer as the NVR (at least Dahua) places the cameras on their own subnet? Thanks. I have seen this before. I think I understand most of what should be done to secure you...

Thinking about HDW5442TM-AS - looking focal length suggestions - pictures inside

Thanks. That is sort of what I was thinking with the 3.6mm and 6mm. Do you think the blue would work? I guess I could mount on the stone, but would rather not.

Looks great. What do you mean by '2 x 5542'? Is that somehow the view from two cameras combined?

If you properly lock down you nvr/computer - how do you get notifications?

Right now I just am just using the crap router that is built into the cable modem I am using. I used to use 3rd routers with the modem in bridge mode, but when I got my new modem (required for an upgrade to my internet service) about 2 years back, Bridge mode was not working and I just ended up...

If you properly lock down you nvr/computer - how do you get notifications?

Okay, so do #2 to, in theory, prevent someone from accessing the NVR from outside your network. But then create a rule to allow the NVR to send out to the internet, thus allowing notifications. So if a guy is paranoid that the nvr might 'phone home', he is out of luck if he want notifications.

Thx. I had been wondering about supply these days - I have been in touch with Andy it sounds like he has the NVR and some 5442s ready to go. But I will double check that with him.

If you properly lock down you nvr/computer - how do you get notifications?

Hi all, Getting ready to take the plunge using Dahua and am trying to figure out as much as I can beforehand so I don't have any surprises (or at least fewer surprises). As I understand from reading here, it is best practice to: 1. have your cameras on a different subnet than the rest of your...

Thinking about HDW5442TM-AS - looking focal length suggestions - pictures inside

Thx. Do you mean the corner on the right/doorbell side? If so, I was thinking about that but was not sure because of the light and if it would block too much of the view or cause the focus to go goofy (but since the camera is not autofocus, I guess that shouldn't be much of a concern). The...

Thinking about HDW5442TM-AS - looking focal length suggestions - pictures inside

Hi, I am looking at finally pulling the trigger on a NVR5216-16P-4KS2E and 3 (to start) HDW5442TM-AS cameras. I am thinking of positioning the cameras where the red circles are in the pictures. Blue circle would be a potential future camera and would be facing the front door. I am, of...

Viewing and notifications for Dahua cameras on ipad?

Hi, How is everyone viewing their dahua cameras (with Dahua nvr) on their ipad/iphone? I see there is the iDMSS suite of apps, but they have pretty terrible reviews - not sure if the app is really that bad or if it just maybe isn't as user friendly as people expect. Also interested in if...

    Review-OEM 4mp AI Cam IPC-T5442TM-AS Starlight+

Thx. I am aware of Andy. Have actually been in touch with him in the past. I may have an opportunity to buy locally (in Canada) from a supplier who typically only sells to installers. Trying to get pricing from them to see how it compares to Andy. Just need to figure out the model number of...

Use cases for AI NVRs in a home setting?

Hey all, Most likely going to pull the trigger on a Dahua NVR and a number of cameras come spring (too cold to install right now). I am looking at the AI Lite series (NVR4216-16P-I). While the real time facial recognition sounds neat, I'm really not sure that there would be much value in my...

What about managed switches for vlan?

Right. Agreed, if I start using a stand alone router, I will likely be off 10.0.0.xx. I have always been thinking about using a PoE nvr - I am just finding out it sounds like most PoE nvr's put the cameras on a separate physical network...

What about managed switches for vlan?

Not sure if it makes difference one way or the other, but my cable modem assigns a 10.0.0.xx ip addresses. Guess that may come in handy as I believe the dahua default to 192.168.xx?

What about managed switches for vlan?

I somehow missed this when I first read your reply - so it sounds like using a managed switch to create the vlan (as per the linked article) vs. doing it at the router is an acceptable way to go? Ya, I used to always use a seperate router, but a couple years back I upgraded my internet plan...
