    Crimpers and Connectors

I think what @tangent is referring to is using a cat6 connector with cat5[e] cable. The space is slightly bigger to account for the plastic insulator in the cat6. I haven't used cat6 connectors with cat5 cable but trying to use a cat5 connector with cat6 cable was tough since the space was smaller.

    Crimpers and Connectors

I have always used the regular rj45 connectors as the ez connectors were quite expensive. With a little more attention to detail and a little practice, I have had no issues with terminating cat6 cable with standard connectors. On amazon, 100 cat6 connectors are $9 and the EZ connectors are $30...

WTB Help with which ptz camera to buy

@nayr if the NVR is 802.3at (rather than af) does that mean that you don't need a poe injector? assuming that your poe switch still has available power? IOW, I'm looking to get a SD49225T-HNI soon, will my ltn8716-p16 be able to power the ptz without an injector?

Question on bulk cat 6 cable

This may be a silly point but make sure you get cat6 rj45 connectors, not the cat5e. I got the cat5e connectors for cat 6 cable when I first started; they worked but were a PITA. The cat6 connectors have a little more room for the bigger cable and are much easier to work with.

Finally got the 20P programmed and a few sensors up. Works very well and wasn't too difficult to program. I am going to be pulling the trigger on the EVL-4 today and get that going too

    VPN setup

Thanks @nayr, that's what I figured. @looney2ns that's the one I went with. Still working out the configuration trying to get it to work but my friend must have changed a bunch of settings around because my router only works at 100mbps and I'm not getting any alert emails from my NVR now. I'm...

    VPN setup

I have been trying to figure out how to setup a VPN for a couple weeks now and am coming up blank. I had an IT friend over to help and in 2 hours, we (mostly him) managed to get a VPN set up on my router and I was able to connect to it from my phone. The next morning, I could not connect. I...

Nice fact! I'm not going to respond to anything else from you because I like this forum and don't want to further hijack this thread. Very Professional

Good for you and your beliefs; do you feel better now that you got that off your chest? You don't have to agree with everyone's decisions nor do you know why people are making them. You really shouldn't be posting in threads with nothing to add; then again, if that's what you want to do, go for...

    back door thieves apprehended

Very cool! Was there a traditional alarm system in place as well? How did you notice them; by motion on the cameras or PIRs tied into the cameras?

    Form factor advice

Search around the forum a bit and you will find plenty of explanations showing the different applications of each type more than aesthetics. Basically, dome cameras are nicer aesthetically but lack at night with the traditional IR as compared to a matrix IR that you would find in a turret...

    NVR recommendation please

LTS offers the LTN8916-P16 as previously described (with the built in POE ports). They also offer the LTN8916 with no built in POE and two rj-45 ports (one for the POE switches and one for LAN). Basically, anything they offer has a base model and a POE version...their model numbers break down to...

    Time for a new router

Synology makes the RT1900ac which I recently purchased and love it. I'm not as tech savvy as others around the forum but the router has some great features at about $150. It has built in NAS functions as well as VPN and DNS server and has a really nice GUI. Check out some reviews or videos

    New Guy From Michigan

Check out the mini domes that @zero-degrees mentioned. They have a built-in mic and have alarm I/O built into the camera. If you aren't satisfied with the motion detection of the camera and want to use a PIR, you can wire it to the alarm in and have that trigger recording. Just curious, why...

G Got ya!! I'll just stick with the basic panel since I'm going to do the monitoring myself. I also saw the Envisalink 4 which looked pretty promising too. Its set up by the end user with no monthly fees. I'm going to look at some more reviews/videos but I guess I could start with just setting...

Anyone know anything about Honeywell's Total Connect? I opened my 20P system and saw a little flyer saying my 20P will work with total connect but can't find anything at all on how to set it up or enable it. I'm assuming I need an IP module to attach to the 20P but other than that, I'm lost

Need a part - TTL triggered 12v relay and timer for siren

I'm still sticking with arduino. You can get an off brand nano and single relay board for $11 (and probably cheaper if you get 60). Write the program once and upload it to all 60. You can program entry/exit delays, timer settings, whatever you can think of.

    Where to buy

Thanks all! I ended up getting the 20p system that @zero-degrees recommended from ebay with the 6160rf. that AD2PI looks pretty cool but at over $100 with the pi, I'd just get a second keypad.
