Seems like with the existing wire already there wifi or some kind of powerline network would be ideal. I have devices all over the place using wifi reliably. Maybe something with the antennas or size or house siding interfering....

How to connect distant cameras from home to the network? (Sketch attached)

Ethernet distance max is specified at 100m (meters) or 327 feet. Speed is auto-negotiated to the fastest speed both devices support. Your router is almost certainly has gigabit ports or 1000Mbps. If you get a 10/100 switch, then the link between your switch and router will fall back to the...

How to connect distant cameras from home to the network? (Sketch attached)

If you were going with a DVR I would suggest connecting the switches to the dvr and then the dvr to your router. In your case, i would connect it all into the router.

How to connect distant cameras from home to the network? (Sketch attached)

Yes you can connect multiple switches to your router. You can also connect switches to switches. In your case, an 8 port poe switch at the remote location to cover those 5 cameras (9-13). That switch should connect back over the existing lan cable you have pictured and plug into your router...

How to connect distant cameras from home to the network? (Sketch attached)

One network cable is fine. Yes, you should get a single POE switch, place it in the remote location, and wire the cams to the switch. Do a quick search and you will find a lot of threads on switches. I was going to link a thread but couldn't get it to work. You won't need to spend a ton, an...

    another dealership video

Nice camera coverage and tracking. Was it raining at all? They did look kinda like car shoppers, sticking at first to similar vehicles. But opening doors and getting in is sketchy. Then they go to the vans which are totally different. I don't know, if I was car shopping after hours at night...

    1000 yd hit with a 9mm revolver!

Why suppressors are good. At the gun range I am a member of in CT we are under constant lawsuits from neighbors. Many people would be OK if it was a nail gun putting up a house down the street, but hate even hearing gunfire. I'm not talking loud, I am talking even hearing it. Suppressors...

    1000 yd hit with a 9mm revolver!

Since this thread has been mostly confined to discussing ideas vs. personal attacks - I will wade in. Most (but not all ) gun control legislation does nothing to prevent crime, yet impacts law abiding citizens negatively. I also agree with an earlier comment that both sides speak over each...

Just Got It. Plug it Into Ethernet?

I am sure your camera is fine, you just need to connect to it. Do this. Leave your router alone on a 10.x subnet. Plug camera in and hook up your 12v supply. Change your computer's ip address to 192.169.1.100. Go into a web browser and go to http://192.168.1.108 Do that and report back...

Just Got It. Plug it Into Ethernet?

OK - I just went to one of my cameras and unplugged it and replugged it back in. In a dark room, and it did nothing. I got no lights at all that I could see, nothing to indicate it was working. In fact if I didn't know the camera was working perfectly it looked dead. I put my hand on it and...

New from Pennsylvania - setup questions

New standards were recently adopted for 2.5/5 G ethernet. That's because 10G ethernet over copper never really happened for the home consumer market and small business too. The gear is too expensive and the per port costs were too high. Many felt that 1G was plenty for the home. With the...

Just Got It. Plug it Into Ethernet?

Plugging a regular ethernet cable will not hurt it. Get a POE injector or poe switch to power it. You can use the 12V line, but it needs to be correctly wired and working. There is no on off switch. Plug it in and go. Are you positive you cannot "see" the camera? Did you try to...

Just Got It. Plug it Into Ethernet?

The cameras do not need the 12v power connected, just an ethernet with power over ethernet or POE. You will need a switch that supports poe, or a poe injector as you guessed. The cameras are not intended to be plugged into a pc directly. There's a lot of quick start guides on google, but...

New from Pennsylvania - setup questions

I like separate switches from the nvr as well. Gives more setup flexibility, and some nvr with poe run a little louder due to fan. IP cams do not draw that much wattage, 96 watts seems like plenty to power 8 cams. I am a fan of appliances that simply work, and do what's needed. I'm not sure...

Dahua 5231 RZ fialed to connect Synology after update

There is a newer firmware on their website: IPC-HDW5231R-Z | Dahua Technology - Dahua Technology It still has the issues I mentioned, so try setting your cam in the web ui before setting it in synology to the same thing. Otherwise if onvif is working for you there are still some items to be...

Dahua 5231 RZ fialed to connect Synology after update

I use the synology approved / specific camera driver. I was getting "disconnected" messages as well. Synology support logged in and they watched the traffic back and forth between the nas and the cameras. The tech called it a bug in the dahua firmware that the "set resolution" command was not...

Dahua 5231 RZ fialed to connect Synology after update

You should just change the password temporarily and give it to them. You can always change it after they are done. the more tickets and emails, the faster the fixes will be. For my 5231 a temporary fix, has been to set the resolution in the camera ui first, and then set it to the same thing...

Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z with custom firmware ?

I had pretty much the same issue with the 14 firmware not working with my Synology surveillance station. In my case Synology did provide support, and determined that the set resolution command was causing the issue. If I set the resolution in the camera first, and set the nas to the same...

    Help with motion detection IPC-HDW5231R-Z

Synology support got it all working with the 14 firmware. "Because DAHUA new firmware set resolution CGI has problems (will disconnect the camera in SVS), need to set the resolution on WEB UI first, then choose same resolution on SVS" This fixed the disconnected and motion seems to be...

Easiest Way to Secure Camera System

Yes, that AC1300 router you linked does have built in vpn support. You are are the right track as built in VPN in the router is easier to configure, and is always on etc. Plus, if you keep the router firmware up to date, you end up having a secure setup. ASUSWRT from asus is the standard...

    Need nvr suggestion

My intention was by a human. As in - looking at the pics after an incident and realizing you can't ID the perps. All the cameras take decent pics during the day, but lots of stuff happens at night. That's why the low light cameras are such a big deal. IMO there's a pretty wide gap between...

Commercial Location PoE Installation - Ethernet Switch

There's a lot of really good help and info in this thread. What are the capabilities of the routers that you have? What are the makes and models? I tried the dropbox link but it did not work for me. If it was me, and I have configured networks for many years - what you described plugging the...

    Need nvr suggestion

Don't cheap out on the cameras. If when you really need it, your pics aren't good, then the whole system is a fail. Facial recognition against hoodie wearers at night is not easy. Once you set it up, test your system at night wearing a hoodie.
