Yeah I know I will possibly regret not doing BI for the start,...but I already talked to Andy and got some prices so I am going to place an order today. By the time my cameras and cable gets here and I actually run my cables, I could probably have researched the BI a little more and bought a...

Could you elaborate on this a little more? What is involved in "configuring the cams IP address" and why/when would I need to access the cameras after initial setup/configuration? Perhaps every time I want to change a setting or zoom, etc? (Wild guess but I had to try!) But it is important...

"A bunch of us have gone from NVR to BI and never looked back! I've never heard of anyone going BI to NVR and saying the same." I have noticed this!

Good points vnotrunning. I do like the simplicity of running all cables directly into the NVR,..and I don't think I will ever need to move the NVR from the spot it will be located. But then again who knows! But like you said adding a switch wouldn't be that big of a deal. But not sure I want...

Seriously,..it never ends! Seriously. That being said I read that thread and now even more unsure which route to go! fenderman who obviously knows his chit swears by BI,...then nayr who equally knows his chit swears by NVR's! Obviously it's all personal choice, I just wish I knew which one will...

Aint gonna lie 90% of that was like reading Japanese! but I kinda get the "point" But it does seem port forwarding still leaves a backdoor. But either way if I did what was recommended yesterday and kept my whole system offline (Til I get the hang of it),... not only would I NOT be able to...

Thanks Philip. I have heard of port forwarding but honestly don't "fully" understand it yet even though I did google it. My problem with VPN is I may not be able to set it up with my Comcast modem/router/combo. But from what I can put together in my head,...the BI really wont help with that...

Nice to know BI isn't much harder to setup than NVR's. I have considered it after reading a few posts but never researched it enough or read the IPCT sticky's on it. I do recall just recently either you or fenderman recommending a certain PC to use (possibly refurbished?),..do you happen to know...

LOL yup I finally read through all 25 pages! Seems the firmware did the trick! Looney,..in you honest opinion, is the 5416 worth the extra cost vs the 5216? Seems to me (from a brief comparison on BH Photo),..that the only difference is 320mbps incoming bandwith vs 200 on the 5216 AND the...

    Considering Dahua

I'm actually on page 17 of 25 of the 5216 thread. There seems to be a lot of issues with frame pauses and reboots with all Dahua NVR's. Some have gotten better results with the latest software version (Think the thread is still around May 2017). Do you know if all those issues were fixed yet...

yeah I will probably only need a few hundred feet with all my planned and even future planned cameras,...but believe me I plan on using up that 1000ft roll! "Or maybe a PIR sensor, which is better than IVS and MD" thanks,...now I have more questions to ask!! pretty sure IVS is Dahua's app...

    Upgrade Comcast Router/Modem combo?

OK so now what are my options?!! :idk: Is VPN really that important (sorry I didn't get to VPN yet!) Or is there still a way maybe using a different router and still keeping my comcast cable/modem and "bypassing" the router part. Sorry if this was already explained but obviously if it was it...

Reading up on these 5216 or even the "better" 58XX models now, Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2.... looks like with 4k and all other options, this is the NVR to get. Just hope they figured out the IVS issue with certain ones. Only on page 6 of 25 but unless there is a better option I will...

Perfect. This is what I will try. Hopefully they don't play those games with me but I'll eventually figure it out! Thanks,...I will figure out how to do that and try that route temporarily until I get the new router,....heck maybe it will even be fine with my network and I'll go that route...

    Upgrade Comcast Router/Modem combo?

Sorry fastb, but I didn't see the link. Thank you. I obviously need to contact Comcast and see if I am only 10/100 and if my modem supports VPN. If not I need to either get a new Comcast modem/router that does support VPN and possibly add the gigibit switch,...or worst case a new router that is...
