Help setting up a small system

I believe nightowl has wireless DVRs. You will probably spend more on an IP camera/NVR solution than an analog and buying a cheap router. Or if you have a spare computer not being used, you could either do Blue Iris or whatever free software is available with the cams you buy and record to the...

    Night settings on the 5231E-Z12E

I try not to upgrade unless it is to fix an issue I am having with the camera...but I upgraded my 5241-Z12 for that with that same firmware because of that manual focus setting and the quality went down for me as well. Mine isn't being used for LPR, but it was noticeable enough...

Help setting up a small system

Don't chase megapixels because most cameras with a higher MP rating are placed on the same sensor as a 2MP camera, which means you need a lot more light. A 5mp camera on a 1/2.8" sensor will need over double the amount of light for a 2mp camera on the same sensor. And then being on a 2.8mm...

Help setting up a small system

Stay away from wifi cams - they are inconsistent, frequently lose signal, easy to jam, and will always cut out when you needed them the most. SD cards in cams are not intended to record 24/7 and will cause you more problems than it is worth to try - they are more for motion detected recordings...

Dahua IP Camera - Image partially focussed

Nope - if ROI is disabled, then the whole picture should be clear. Most of us do not use ROI as it is a gimmick in most instances - the only time it is of benefit is if for some reason the camera insists on focusing on an area other than what you are trying to get. I played with it a bit at...

Is their better at a reasonable budget ?

@Zook - the problem with that is the closer the block is to the camera, the worse the IR bounce would be. I would suggest if it is a big issue causing problems with the camera, either add external illuminator on the other side of the fence or up higher than the camera to hopefully minimize the...

Is their better at a reasonable budget ?

If the camera works at the location - then that is awesome! Knock on the wood fence LOL that my neighbors cams haven't been smashed or damaged - maybe the perps are smart enough to know that would be giving a great picture of their face being that close LOL. Now mailboxes being hit by baseball...

Is their better at a reasonable budget ?

Actually 4 feet is ideal LOL. My neighbors fence is that high and he gets great shots of people approaching and is getting full front of faces as opposed to sides, plus if they are looking down it still has a chance at getting their face. Your pic above is actually still getting a fair amount...

Is their better at a reasonable budget ?

I would consider mounting a camera (s) on the fence itself angled looking down the sidewalk or maybe just inside the fence out of reach. I would think a turret on the fence post painted the color of the fence would go fairly unnoticed - my neighbor did that and nobody sees it. I will see if he...

    Help with install

Mounting on eaves are great for overview cams to see that something happened but unless they are within 5 feet of the camera and look up at the camera, you cannot make any identification if it is a complete stranger. You need to decide if the cams are for observation or identification - that...

    Help with install

At the eaves you will only get top of heads. It is mainly only the old domes with a circle ring of IR around the lens that attracted the spiders - even bullets with that configuration will do that. Any good new dome (turret) will only have 2 maybe 4 IR LEDs and not the whole circle ring.

    Night settings on the 5231E-Z12E

Agree on using fixed shutter speed at night - on my 5231 it would result in it trying to refocus and then was a blur all night. Here are my settings on the 5231-Z12. I'm at 175 out and most plates pop off screen.

49225 XNA Good but annoying when it matters.

That is frustrating! It will be interesting to see what midday looks like without the long shadows. While it is a great camera, I think it has trouble with the shots that are more perpendicular like yours and mine. @ljw2k has more of a face on/straight on shot and I think it has an easier...

Need Help determining what this could be caused by ?

I have a camera that does that on H265 so I run it H264 and now no problems. Like someone said, just because a camera is "capable" doesn't mean it actually can. How many truly meet their IR rating LOL. And try matching frame rate with FPS

I also went with an intrusion box and that helped mine a lot. I still get an occasional wonder off to the left, but almost every other track with a tripwire would pan the sky.

Review - Dahua SD49225XA-HNR 2MP 25x Starlight + IR PTZ AI Camera with Deep IVS & SMD Plus

@Holbs - I like the option 5 for the points you highlight; however, the area looks flat and from that location looking up to the main street - you get your neighbor parking in the driveway with a vehicle of any size and you probably are not tracking anyone coming down until they are past that...

    Dahua naming convention

Just like some vehicles sold in some countries have a different name plate/model here, same with cameras. The US Dahua models are generally more expensive compared to the same international model and you generally have to purchase the US version through an installer, which is why the...

Review - Dahua SD49225XA-HNR 2MP 25x Starlight + IR PTZ AI Camera with Deep IVS & SMD Plus

It all depends on when the camera tracks them and what tracking size you use for that deep IVS (not the object size, the tracking size). For example, if you have it start tracking someone at 150 feet out and have the tracking target size at 60, then by the time they get close to the PTZ they...
