What’s a good price on a BI PC?

Ok I got a HP EliteDesk 8000 SFF i7-4790 3.6Ghz, 8MB for $155 (with tax $165) I has a 500 GB HDD and Windows Pro, not sure if it's 8 or 10 but not either the OS or HD really matter much. HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Small Form Factor (500GB, Intel Core i7-4790, 3.6GHz, 8GB) | eBay I bought it...

What’s a good price on a BI PC?

I think I saw somewhere that the 3.5" can be used for either 1 x 3.5" drive or 2 x 2.5" drive. In any case, I feel asleep before you guys replied last night so I think I missed out on the Dell sale. But regardless I feel a lot more informed now (thanks to you guys) to make a better decision...

What’s a good price on a BI PC?

I for one do not have any unused cases. My wife barely tolerates my boxes of cables. I think whatever I buy needs to just be read for swap out of the OS HDD for an SSD and room for a surveillance drive or maybe two.

I checked on this with the seller. The COA sticker doesn’t have the key on it.

What’s a good price on a BI PC?

I saw the Dell deal but they are all the smaller Optiplex 7020 chassis. I felt like I can get an i7 EliteDesk 800 from eBay for about the same price and have more expansion/HD slots. Not sure if the better warranty from Dell is more important but it feels to me like you need room for at least...

What’s a good price on a BI PC?

It looks like the big difference btw those two is really one comes with Windows and the other does not come with an OS but has an optical drive. I'm guessing it's bet to opt for the one with the OS since optical drives aren't very usual these days.

What’s a good price on a BI PC?

So is something like this decent? Dell Optiplex 7020SFF Intel i7 4790 CPU @3.60GhZ Windows 10 Enterprise Office 16 | eBay

What’s a good price on a BI PC?

Hello Sorry for the newbie question but I read the wikis buying guide and it appears like going on eBay and doing a daily search for a desktop with the CPUs mention should net me a decent deal. But I’m totally unsure what price points make for a good deal. Is there a reference to a price range...

Green Horn Questions - DVR/NVR/Cloud(self vs vendor hosted)

Ok I found a i7-6700 3.40 GHz for about $450. That seems like a better box. Decent deal? Stupid questions but so I’m guessing all the cameras go into a hub/switch on the same subnet as the computer than you assign a static ip to each camera and the BI software than reads them? Is that right?

Green Horn Questions - DVR/NVR/Cloud(self vs vendor hosted)

I saw that but wasn’t sure how to read it. It’s a i7-4790S 3.2Ghz. I’m guessing maybe that’s too slow based on this for 8 cams at 4MP?

If I could get an i7-4790S for $280 is that a good enough?

Green Horn Questions - DVR/NVR/Cloud(self vs vendor hosted)

I was probably thinking 8 cameras maybe 10. What I’ve read makes me believe I’d probably mostly stick to 4mp cameras to get the best mix of clarity and low light picture. So does that mean an i5 is the right choice for me?

Green Horn Questions - DVR/NVR/Cloud(self vs vendor hosted)

Ok my first question. I see if the cliff notes it says there is an advantage to buying a NVR from the same companies you buy your cameras. However it seems if you do a BI build you’re by default going with a different company. It feels like the info is somewhat conflicting. Am I missing...

Green Horn Questions - DVR/NVR/Cloud(self vs vendor hosted)

Feels like this thread is getting a bit hijacked. Out of curiosity is there a brand that people favor? I know you mentioned Hikvision doesn’t have much of a complete solution but does anyone else have something a bit closer?

Also when you say hikvision doesn’t have a decent solution are you saying their facial detection software doesn’t work as advertised? Also I’ve see the Nest facial recognition. It’s very very good at identifying individuals package deliveries etc if you put aside RNR.

Are you suggesting sighthound as a blue iris add on? I did a quick search for it and didn’t find anything that would help me understand how to incorporate it into an system.

Green Horn Questions - DVR/NVR/Cloud(self vs vendor hosted)

Sounds like a great opportunity for someone! Anyway it sounds like Blue Iris does a lot of the movement package detection. The facial detection sounds a little more iffy. I think Hikvision might have a decent solution but I worry about the fact that they can’t be used on government contracts...

Hello My wife has decided we're in need of more cameras inside and outside of the house. This isn't really my area of expertise so I've come to you guys for some help. It seems the options are: Recording to SD Cards or local storage NVR/DVR systems Cloud based systems (self or vendor...

Wife pushed me to buy a DropCam but I'm thinking about returning it for a HikVision

Re: Wife pushed me to buy a DropCam but I'm thinking about returning it for a HikVisi Here's my update. Both the DropCam and the HikVision arrived today. First of all I'd like to say that Nelly's delivery time was far superior to DropCam's. DropCam claimed 2 day business shipping but what...

Wife pushed me to buy a DropCam but I'm thinking about returning it for a HikVision

Re: Wife pushed me to buy a DropCam but I'm thinking about returning it for a HikVisi 30 day recording was never an option. By the way I wish you were right about the college fund but I did the math. For a child burning in 2014, I need $500 a month until she's 18 to send her to school.
