    Thanks Camit.

    New Ring Alarm System 199

Thanks fenderman. I didn't know if this was the exception, or more representative. I've been discussing the Honeywell 20P in a different thread. Tough choice. The Honeywell system allows me to use a broader range of sensors now, while the Ring is a much nicer "one box" solution - with a great...

    Honeywell 20P or 21IP?

The 20P seems like a great way to go, but I'll admit the Ring Alarm system has a great price point and monitoring cost, and is likely more plug-n-play - if a bit more limited at the moment.

    Honeywell 20P or 21IP?

Thanks smitcans. What about flood sensors? Any out there that will work with a 20P?

    New Ring Alarm System 199

No system is perfect, that's taken for granted. My concern was with the particular comments about disconnects and sensors dropping offline.

    Honeywell 20P or 21IP?

Apologies to all the long-timers here if it looks like I'm all over the map (from my other threads), but the more I read the more it seems like putting a system together using something like a Honeywell 20P or 21IP might provide for a more robust, reliable system. I see the differences between...

    New Ring Alarm System 199

So I continue to look at this as a solution for a friend. I've been reviewing the comments from various sites and I happened upon the following that raised some interest and concern. Note that I am not trying to bash this product - far from it. I am greatly interested in it but I just don't know...

Unattended long term security - DIY or Installed?

Which NVR are you using, Kendive?

Unattended long term security - DIY or Installed?

That stuff would be covered, tangent, but thanks for mentioning it. It is important. She's got good neighbors who will take care of a lot of that stuff, and regular lawn and gutter service for those things.

    New Ring Alarm System 199

$150? Are you sure? It looks like $199, which is still a sale price of course.

    New Ring Alarm System 199

Since the summer when these comments were posted, has anyone actually done any testing with other Z-Wave products to see if they work with the Ring Alarm System?

Unattended long term security - DIY or Installed?

Hmm, I hadn't considered a two stage solution. Any rec's for a monitored system?

    New Ring Alarm System 199

I'm late to this party, but @fenderman, what options would you recommend as being better? I have a different thread about system recommendations but then saw your message here.

Unattended long term security - DIY or Installed?

A friend is considering a job opportunity that would have her away from her home for extended periods of time - potentially close to a year at a time before being able to check on things personally back at her house. She has no security system right now (she lives in a very low crime rate area...

First entry into home IP cams

Dropped off the LaView this morning for shipment back to Amazon.

First entry into home IP cams

Thanks. I think the LaView will be going back since now I have information and recommendations from the folks here. Even with doing all the VPN and segregation, I don't care for the step of having to enter my wireless password into their app and backend server.

First entry into home IP cams

Yes, I'm pretty sure I remember doing that. My system is still running XP Ultimate 64 bit. :) All these years and it's been quite reliable and secure. At least through the means I have to test it. I use Linux at work, so yes I understand. :) Oh, my internal network at home is behind its own...

Hmm, not a good sign for LaView... Insecurity Cameras and Mobile Apps: Surveillance or Exposure?

First entry into home IP cams

My network is quite secure. No SSID broadcast, all unused ports blocked, Windows Firewall locked down. Every test I've done has me coming out clean (so far). What troubles me is having to put my SSID and password into this app. With that information going off to some server in China. Am I...

First entry into home IP cams

Thanks for the great info. I will look these things over. I did inbox the LaView just enough to read the instructions. It's a sort of general set, explaining how to connect either wirelessly or over Ethernet. Unfortunately this model has no physical Ethernet port, so it would need to be done...

I posted about that in a new thread under IP Cameras. I will, just can't do that from work. The Wiki site is blocked from here. :-(

First entry into home IP cams

Hi everyone. I've been looking over the home IP cam scene for a while. My desire is to stay away from solutions with subscription based cloud storage (and access), so while I find the Nests and Netgears and other cams very clever and nice looking, I was looking as a guinea pig trial for...

Hi everyone. I'm not really new to IP cams, but my experience goes back 10 or so years to FLIR based systems I designed for small businesses. From picking the cams and backend surveillance and recording software/hardware to designing the copper to fiber subsystems that were meant for heavy...
