The ideal position for that front door camera

I’ve eliminated the option of a doorbell camera and am opting for a dedicated front door camera. It will be either a 2MP or 5MP dahua mini wedge in 2.8mm and will be placed at 5-6’ height for the good facial shot. The only thing I must now decide is what side of the door to place it. It will be...

Direct Viewing of Camera via Laptop

Hey, I’m no network guru but I’m guessing you’re not on the same network ie your laptop is on 192.168 xxxxxxx and your camera is 10.1.1.79 but as I said I’m no guru. I’d change my laptop to 10.1.1.xx and give that a try. I’m sure someone will bob up with the exact answer.

Home invasion on camera, now what? (and some lessons) ( From Reddit)

An ADU is otherwise referred to as an accessory dwelling unit, additional dwelling unit, secondary suite, or granny flat. Put simply, it is a secondary structure on a residential lot in addition to the main house – this includes converting a detached or attached garage into a full living quarters.

Review- 5MP IR Fixed focal Dome Lite Network Camera

What is the expectation of this 5mp v the 2mp wedge when placed at 5’ for front door use? Andy has said low light = 2mp and good light 5mp. My front porch has a dusk to dawn motion sensor light. Is that “good light”?

dahua, how do you change camera order on live view??

Found this: May or may not apply to your model. I think this is what you’re after.  Preview drag: If you want to change position of channel 1 and channel 2 when you are previewing, you can left click mouse in the channel 1 and then drag to channel 2, release mouse you can switch channel 1 and...

dahua, how do you change camera order on live view??

There’s probably something in the settings but before tearing your hair out trying to work it, I’d change the cable connections around on the back of the unit or your poe switch but that’s only because I don’t know any better. If that didn’t work for me then I’d resort to reading the...

    Review-OEM Loryta IPC-T5442T-ZE Varifocal 4mp camera (Dahua)

I was in the same boat as you. In the end I went with the 5442t-ze VF as in my testing locations 2.8 was just too wide and 3.6 was too narrow. For a few extra bucks I got the VF and are more than happy with the cam and the specific view that met my needs. Set and forget. If I change my mind I...

Creating a new home network- advice/help needed

I hear you @holiday about keeping it simple. I read somewhere that to join a switch to a switch the ports should be tagged but I’ll disregard that and leave unstaffed. The rewiring will be as you said running cable from cams to poe. Can I instead of plugging nvr to poe plug the nvr as I posted...

Creating a new home network- advice/help needed

Sorry for the essay. I’ve got my ip cams from Andy and tested in a number of places etc. I need to run my cat6 to each location and install. My real challenge is to redo my home network from scratch. I need to set the network up properly, so I’m here to ask. I’ve done LOTS of reading and I must...

Are you guys greasing your RJ45 connectors?

Thanks @Mike A. I thought the way described seemed excessive and would be rather messy. I’ll go with the blobs as you suggested. My connections won’t be directly exposed to the elements.

Are you guys greasing your RJ45 connectors?

Found this, Is this the way you guys do it? Use dielectric grease (which is uniformly non-conducting) on all connections and in all RJ-45 Ethernet connectors. The best practice is to use enough grease to fill the RJ-45 female connector, and then insert the RJ-45 male connector and push the...

Viewing NVR on tvs through out house

Not necessarily. Due to heat I try and avoid electronic equipment in the roof space, but that may not be an issue in your case, so you could place them together like that or you could place the modulator with or near your nvr. You just need the coax run back to the distribution box.

Viewing NVR on tvs through out house

What about a HD modulator that sends a signal. You basically pick a number for your channel different to your tv channels and name it eg NVR. When you scan your tv channels it finds the broadcast signal. I’ve got 2 I use at home. One for pay tv and another for a central bluray player. You could...

Are the IPC-E3241F-AS-M from Andy still the best go to as far as wedge mini domes go for a protected front porch area by front door. No direct sun for reflections. Or is there now a better option? The area to cover porch wise is on 5’6” sq the opens to yard. Will 2.8 be best option?

    Dahua NVR to recommend

I know an all in one plug n play is a good selling tactic, but as I said, I am not overly tech savvy and really only need the basic options available with an NVR. At this time I'm really only looking at basic recording and maybe remote viewing that an NVR seems to offer. I'm not after a fully...

    Dahua NVR to recommend

I like plug and play. If I did go down pc path, I've got an old xp computer or even a Windows 8 laptlap, but would probably be intimidated by too many program variations and not really knowing, but i suppose the same for an nvr.

    Dahua NVR to recommend

I'm not overly computer literate and in my research looked at blue iris but in the end thought simplicity was utmost and hence my nvr question. I have no doubt that blue iris is probably at the top end but not for me. Thanks for that suggestion though..
