    @nayr , regarding the time stamp. Does that only apply to the 5216 ? My 5416 has time stamp in the menu option and it allows a few ways to set it up. Or is there something I am missing here ?

    I have the very large manual for the NVR, the only thing I don't like about it is that it does not give enough examples of how and what can be connect to the terminals. When I am learning something new even though I know the concepts of how to do it, I like to have a really good regerence...

    Yes it came with screw terminal blocks. Here are a few pics of the circuit board. It looks like there are 6 relays that may be tied into the terminal block. Are the terminals with the relays used to power up a siren, strobe or some thing else to alert you of an input alarm ?

    I must have mistaken this NVR for a different one with relays. This is the back connection on mine. Sorry for the poor photos from the manual. I did not send the PDF home to extract the pages. Had to do it the old fashioned way.

    I think the my new NVR has a few relay ports on it . It's the 5416 . I am leaving my office now and will need to take a look at the back of the NVR or spec sheet when I get home.

    Internally you are talking about the cameras or NVR correct ? When ground is applied it kicks up the voltage to whatever the circuit is designed for. So the NVR or Camera would put out a 12v supply correct ?

    I am assuming the NVR or Cameras would have a reference signal or supply there own voltage to a senor. I think what nayr is saying , do not induce additional voltage from and external source. A dry contact or relay is only used to make the connect between the two leads coming from the camera...

    Ok got it. So it needs to be an open or closed circuit , No volts . Alarm signal triggers relay to open or closed position to alert cams and NVR to do what ever you tell it to do. Also double check with my fluke for any power before making connections. My wife will just love another project...

    @nayr If I put a SD card in a camera does it still record to the 5416 NVR ? I had read some place if the NVR hard drive craps out the came will write to the SD card and then back up to the NVR once the NVR hard drive is back on line. or do I have this al wrong ?

    Had to put in my two cents about pipe dope. If you want a truly water resistant and vibration resistant ( locking dope ) use Rector Seal TRU-BLUE .. Nothing really beats this stuff. It works like loctite to keep things from coming apart and seals water and chemicals out.

    Ok so cameras with mics built in are not the best for capturing music. I have plenty of mics and could hook one up as long as the camera has an input for it. Are there any good Eye ball , wide angle or fisheye style cams with audio input jacks ? I am running a NVR5416-16p-4ks2, Cat 6 , 12 TB .
