Aliexpress sellers not allowed to sell hikvision any more??

How does the situation stack up here compared to a Dahau camera?

Milkisbad - if your catalog now has the 4MP's... I'd like a PM please - thanks!

    Hikvision's new 4MP 2-series

With respect to the pigtail being stuffed in the camera... I forgot to mention that I'm mounting it above a door - where an overhead roof (for the front porch) would extend 7-8 feet out in front, and 3-4 feet to the nearest side. It would not be hit by direct liquid moisture. Water in the...

Sample snapshot from Dahua 4MP IPC-HDBW4421R

I wish the turret was readily available on AE... I'd probably just pick one of these up now that the Hik's aren't available on AE.

    Hikvision's new 4MP 2-series

Thanks - I do not have siding... Instead I'd be mounting it on wood above my front door. I plan to go with a turret at this time. It's really surprising that these vendors don't have an easy way to use smaller holes - like even if using a pigtail, maybe it connects to the camera using a...

    Hikvision's new 4MP 2-series

Do any of the Hik's or Dahua cameras (outdoor) have the ethernet port on the actual camera instead of a pigtail? I really do not feel like drilling a 1" hole in my exterior wall if I can get away with 5/16" (and then crimp an RJ45 on the cable.

Opinions for Hikvision/Dahua on front porch

With the mic - do you have to separately wire up audio wires, or is it all over Ethernet?

    Isolating network - mini router?

You guys just might be right. :) I do take precautions on my wifi, but planned on a separate guest wifi in the future with anything needing internal access to my network being wired. In the end, for me, the risk is pretty darn low. For some people who might run ethernet out to the perimeter...

    Isolating network - mini router?

It occurs to me that running an Ethernet cable outside poses a risk to my network... Granted a pretty low risk that someone is going to get on my front porch, rip the camera off, and put a battery powered wifi router up for them to use to remotely try to hack into my network... But still I was...

    Hikvision's new 4MP 2-series

One of the Ali sellers shows a turret in the picture but then calls it a dome... Not sure which will actually show up.

    Hikvision's new 4MP 2-series

I'm thinking of buying the turret - and my thoughts here are that if I went with the 2.8mm lens, that even though I have a very wide field of view, I should be able to see a pretty good distance with usable resolution... Is my understanding of the optics / resolution equation accurate? Also -...

    Recommend me a mini-dome camera?

Well - it's going to be mounted right over my door... Essentially my door casing frame... Which is painted brown. It's going to be pretty much in your face :)

    Recommend me a mini-dome camera?

Wasn't very nice of me to not explain better why the ELP wasn't really working for me... I was rigging this rather ingenious ( :) ) mounting scheme to place the camera between my main front door and the screen door. Lowering it from the top of the door frame by 10" or so, and peaking through...

    Recommend me a mini-dome camera?

Yeah I saw that and would consider it - but really they don't seem like they are substantially smaller than the other mini-domes?

    Recommend me a mini-dome camera?

I bought an ELP camera from Alibaba, about 1"x1" for the camera mount, with a "tail" for the electronics and ethernet connection. While it works ok, in the end the view through my screen door isn't working out well enough, so I want to mount something completely outside - above my front door...

    New product release cycle?

My searching did not turn up any new IP cameras of importance at CES. Just in my opinion gimmicks like an IP camera built into a spotlight. Ok yes that is somewhat helpful in a number of specific cases. But the amount of coverage it seemed to get was well, ridiculously excessive. (IMHO)...

    New product release cycle?

That's a good point. At this point though, I really just have to wait two weeks to see if there is anything "interesting" that will be coming out, or if I should proceed with a purchase of a product that is already available...

    New product release cycle?

Understood... But in the grand scheme of things, since I'm looking at cameras less than $300, 10% isn't going to break my budget. It will be taking me hours to run the single wire, and mount the hardware.... While there are cameras that will work for me just fine, I hate the idea that in a...

    New product release cycle?

So based on that thesis, if I can wait another couple of months, it might be worthwhile to do so...

    New product release cycle?

So I'm wondering - do IP cameras follow the typical "consumer electronics" cycle.. With new models appearing at CES and available shortly thereafter? I'd like to see what is coming before I embark on the challenging install I have ahead of me. It seems at least electronics (computes?)...

    PTZ Options

I think you have just sufficiently convinced me: http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=2158 Either the small mini-dome or the big brother. It's either that or pay another $200 more, or wait for a future product. I gotta read through his blog post again to decide which to go with. I'd prefer...

    PTZ Options

Thanks again for your comments... My thoughts are for my application, 90% of the time it would be focused on the front porch, but in the case of a disturbance... The ability to ptz to the area of interest, without me having to go investigate... Could be helpful. What do you think about the...

    PTZ Options

Yes I know... I said $150-$200 more... Could go up to $400 I suppose, didn't so much want to go to $500. While stuff may exist cheaper, again it comes down to buying something that may be garbage and then away goes my $350-$400 investment.

    PTZ Options

Ok I should have explained myself better. Yes primary function is to see what is going on ON my front porch... Who is at the door, has my mail been delivered, etc... but at the same time I would like to be able to monitor the street, sidewalk... I live on an urban street and having...

Thank you fenderman. From an "optics" perspective - and clearly I'm a novice here... How much "detail" do I lose in more "distant" objects... 30-50 feet out, by not having the zoom capability? Thanks again...

    PTZ Options

Hey folks. I've been doing some research off and on for months, and it is coming to the point where I really should just move forward. I'd like to add a camera to my front door and would like the flexibility of a small, unobtrusive wall mount "mini-dome?" that has PTZ functionality. While I...
