Would like your thoughts for Managed Switch

I'm using a HP Procurve 2620 POE+ 24 port switch. You can find them on ebay for around $35 and up. As long as you are comfortable configuring from command line, then these are reasonable for the price. It has 12 POE+ and 12 regular ports with two 1Gb uplinks.

Cant see my Camera through the PC only through an app

I would suggest reconfiguring your cameras to use a standard ip address range e.g. 192.168.x.x. and I'd turn multicasting off.

Cant see my Camera through the PC only through an app

IP addresses in the range of 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255 are known as multicast (one to many) or Class D IP addresses. These are used when you want to send one stream of data to a select group of devices. e.g. think IPTV or video conferencing.

    IP camera set up

If you know the model number, try visiting the manufacturers website or use Google or whatever your favourite search engine is. If there is no manufacturer name on the camera, then you can try searching for the fcc id and that should point you to the manufacturer.

    IP Cameras Disconnecting

Is there any form of power management on the router ports? If so, you might want to try turning that off. When you the cameras keep disconnecting, can you elaborate on that?

    New setup

Don't expose the camera network to the internet. Use a VPN when connecting to the network from outside of your home network. Don't open any ports or do any type of port forwarding. Since you're using a L3 capable POE switch use inter-vlan routing and have your cameras and NVR on separate vlans...

Anyway to log into a Dahua camera remotely

I promised a couple of friends that I'd send them some details of my setup, so yesterday I created this 2 page document. Hopefully it gives folks a visual view and a better understanding.

Anyway to log into a Dahua camera remotely

You're welcome. If you want to post your setup, I'll try and I help you if I can, that is if you want to have a go at setting up something similar.

Anyway to log into a Dahua camera remotely

If your vpn clients are not on the same subnet as the cameras, then you won't be able to connect them. You will need to either have your vpn server assign addresses in the same range as the cameras or depending on your physical setup, create a static route in the router pointing to the camera...

    Reccomend me a POE switch

Just to add my 2 cents worth regarding the Procurve 2620. I found the web gui a little poor on the usability/configuration side of things. There is a text based utility which makes things a little easier, but most of the configuration requires use of the command line. In terms of noise, I've not...

Best Cat6 cable for my system?

^^What TonyR says. Stranded cable is for connecting between devices as they are quite flexible. Solid cable is for running in walls and between floors.

    L2 or L3 Ethernet switch

I managed to pick up a used 24 port Procurve 2620 L3 switch for $34. It has 12 poe+ ports. I've setup 3 vlans with inter-vlan routing. My BI pc is on one vlan, the cameras are on a separate vlan with no internet access and the third vlan allows me to access the nvr from my home network and...

    Cable Installation Questions

Having finally run all the cables for my cameras. I'll just add my 2 pence worth here. Since Monoprice is within travelling distance from me, I bought the cable specified in your post from them. I also bought the RJ-45's that TonyR recommended along with some rubber boots for the ends of the...

    Camera settings

I've installed 3 out of my 6 cams and am now playing around with BI settings to get them configured. Attached are 3 pics from the respective cameras. I've turned off the infrared on the garage left cam and the picture seems pretty reasonable. The garage right cam isn't very good due to the...

Two cameras up - notes and pics included

@Mr_D. Nice job there. I'm having to do something similar in my garage since I can't get one of the cables into the garage attic easily. Are you able to post a picture of how you have your cables going into the attic? Thanks in advance.

Time to choose my poe switch...

I purchased a HP Procurve 2620 POE+ managed switch from Ebay for $34. The switch has 24 ports of which 12 are POE. It also has 2 Gigabit uplink ports.

Cannot connect to ip cameras using ip address

I'm using a HP Procurve 2620. I'm still in the testing/configuration stage using vlans and inter vlan routing so I'm going through a learning curve at the moment. I can't access the one camera using Microsoft Edge, but I can if I use Firefox. Try a different browser and see if that works. Get a...

    Door cam suggestion

Thanks VorlonFrog. After clarification, it appears that my friend isn't actually looking for a doorbell camera, more that he is looking for a camera to cover the front door area that is in a fenced off private garden. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances, he wasn't able to give much...
