cool thanks guys for the ideas. I'll give it a shot.

Idea about mass storage - Using a NAS?

really? I thought it was majorly encouraged to use only local storage for new. (maybe I misunderstood or I'm not remembering correctly)

Idea about mass storage - Using a NAS?

I've been using BI for about a year. The computer where it runs only has a 500gb C: drive and then a 1TB D; drive in it. I know I "could" just buy a replacement 6TB D: drive for that machine but the thing is, I have a NAS with probably 14tb of available space on it. For the past year, what I did...

    Need camera recommendations, 2nd story

I think that's kind of what I figure. If I've got the extra cameras, extra poe ports and the CPU horsepower to handle them then I'll install them and have them running. No, they may not be the IDEAL camera for that location but it beats nothing until I can someday put something better there.

    Cooler thief hit neighbors house

I'm not advocating vigilantism or anything but if the cops do nothing, the owner now has the license plate. Those are easy to query and find out who owns that truck. I've seen instances where someone was caught in video/pictures doing something wrong and once the parents were shown the evidence...

    Router suggestions

Asus is my favorite (at the moment). Netgear iirc has only support for the first 90 days, then you pay for it. Also, Netgear's warranty is only 1 year. Asus I believe is 2 years.

    Eight Is Enough

thanks for the info! I grew up on several acres and we never really saw them around. We had outside dogs though (and cameras didn't exist then) so I we never saw them. Now that I see them around, I was just worried they'd chew up the wiring. I'll leave them be then.

    Eight Is Enough

I'm actually trying to determine what to do about possums at my house right now. My cams for the past couple weeks have been seeing possums crossing the driveway, hiding under cars and generally just roaming around. This neighborhood has houses on lots that are tiny (imho) about 1/5 of an acre...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

I've always read they can be power hogs and tend to be rather loud for a home network. Maybe that comes down to opinion though. I guess it all depends on if you're cool w/ the extra electricity cost and where it would be located. At a former company I worked at, I know our cisco switches were...

Camera for iSmartGate garage door opener

I cant speak to ismartgate app (sounds cool though) but I have a camera mounted inside of my garage to record Amazon in-garage deliveries & also anytime movement triggers BI (like when a garage door opens for example). While it would be neat to have the camera stream integrated into my "myQ"...

    Chinese cameras

A simple way would be to look into your router and see what IP's are given out. Then plug in a single camera, look for the "new one" and note the IP as well as the mac address of it. The IP address (if running DHCP and not static) can always change. The MAC address will always be the same. Then...

Can I rotate video in Blue Iris if I mount this cam on the ceiling ? Amcrest 4MP UltraHD Indoor WiFi Camera

fwiw, I have used their indoor cameras outside on my patio for a good while now with no problem. (IP2M-841) Its on a covered patio so it doesnt get direct rain but it does get moisture (I'm in a humid area) and no problems. I actually did this based on a recommendation from another member who...

    Benefit 15 fps for camera

Good info! So to continue the idea, what is the cost of a dozen of these cameras you mention ("Dahua's OEM 8MP non-AI cameras")? And also, what would you expect it take from a computing standpoint to handle the load of all of them directly recording? Btw, I'm not looking to build such. I'm...

    Benefit 15 fps for camera

I might regret even asking this question but I'm gonna guess that some others might be curious as well. So, GoPro cameras often run at 20 or even over 30 fps. (Some people target 60fps!) These being so common to consumers, I sometimes wonder if that type of expectation is brought into this IP...

    16 port unmanaged PoE Switch - $70

Nope. Still at "partial backordered" which is kind of funny as that's the only thing on my order at all. I've read online that Tiger is having some financial problems like many companies due to covid and might be doing layoffs soon (or even now). I'm confidently optimistic that it will come...

    Dahua - 24th Floor

I'm curious as to the angle that you'll be viewing. If its away from the building a bit then you might be able to get something other than the top of their heads. This is gonna be one helluva task for sure with it being such a long way. (I'm guessing it can be done though. It's just VERY...

    Motion rectangles on recordings.

interesting to see. I have it enabled on about half of my cameras and the other half I don't. I only see it where its enabled. I'd suggest just rolling back to the last stable rev. Easy enough (fwiw, I've also rebooted the entire system a couple times as well and it remains all stable and as...

5.2.8 - May 20, 2020 - Direct-to-disc BVR recording will now include metadata for video overlays

I think the rectangles highlight has always been there but if you didnt have them highlighting during the live view (or when it happened), then I dont think we had the option to enable them upon later playback. I'm no expert and could be wrong though.

    Motion rectangles on recordings.

good timing. 5.2.8 - May 20, 2020 - Direct-to-disc BVR recording will now include metadata for video overlays "Trigger Tab>Motion Sensor Configure button>Highlight:Show object rectangles" This MIGHT be something you want. Read up on it and you can decide. (I'm just trying to point out that...

5.2.8 - May 20, 2020 - Direct-to-disc BVR recording will now include metadata for video overlays

Now this is very awesome! I just tested it and now I want to run "Trigger Tab>Motion Sensor Configure button>Highlight:Show object rectangles" on all my cameras so I can filter that on/off while watching them later. Sometimes I get an alert and I'm not sure where it came from. This is a great...

BI 5 Web Server keeps shutting off every day, i am losing it

    1. We're saying the same thing here but using different approaches. You're saying "optional", I'm saying "I'm not saying you shouldn't or can't. I'm just saying you have to pay some attention to do so" If you're seriously asking me what I perfer, I would say that people need to always look at...

BI 5 Web Server keeps shutting off every day, i am losing it

Wow...I hit a nerve. I intended to just put my opinion (is that ok? I'm not sure if it's acceptable to post my own impression/experiences here) which surprisingly to me appears to be different than yours. Again, I'm not sure if my impression/opinion/experience being different is ok or not. Also...

BI 5 Web Server keeps shutting off every day, i am losing it

Just to clarify, I'm not saying I don't enjoy mine. I'm trying to explain that to have it properly installed, maintained, requires some experience (like experience from doing over 20 BI installs?) and some more than the average home user worth of computer knowledge to do so. I don't think the...
