I guess I just wasnt sure about the quality of the recordings during downtimes. Do I technically need a full resolution image of my bushes and flowers and empty driveway. Not that it is bad, but my assumption was that there would be lower quality footage of something static and when there is...

hmm. OK. I know I saw some stuff that said 8TB (maybe 4TB) is good for 30 days. If that is full resolution, then I am OK with that actually. I guess once I get a system I can play and figure it out.

ah, gotcha. I thought I read/heard there was a way to record the low quality stream when nothing is happening. it was on a selfhosted podcast.

ah, so the substream while you can view it on the screens is not technically recording. and recording only happens when it detect movement, records the iframe bit and then full res. After that it reverts to substream and not recording 24/7

I think I mixed up my 4k with 4MP. This is the very camera I have.

    Deciding on a "workstation"

Did the machine come? Did you get it loaded? How is it working out for you. I am looking at a similar camera count and same system, just curious if it time for me too to pull the trigger. thanks

thanks. I guess that's one bit that is misleading. My plan was to go 24/7, but i assume not recording 4k all the time, which is the reason for the substream. It sits, recording a lower quality image and then ups the quality when needed. However, this might be a misunderstanding on my part...

So, I finally got my first main camera in and also added an ezviz doorbell cam to round out the front door view. But a camera is crap without any history, so I need to get BI and for BI a system to run it. I am eyeing a system with an i5-6500 and 8GB ram, hp z240. Looking at the sizing guide...

    Ezviz doorbell and transformer

At nearly 300 posts there are many mentioned there. Of those, many say try this or that. Was really hoping there was more of a science to it that spray and pray.

    Ezviz doorbell and transformer

Saw the price drop on the ezviz and want to pick one up. Is there a recommended transformer? From what I read, mine is not supported as it's only 10v

Curious here what is considered more important, seeing someone standing at the door or approaching the door? I can angle more left or more right with some zoom action

He honey, we have to lose the flowers, their f-ing with our cameras night vision.

@handinpalm Thanks for the idea of rotating the camera, Still room to play and tweak, but hats a total game changer for sure. It toally changes the view, thats freaking awesome. While I took it off, I messed with the zoom a bit too. Who would have thought, this stuff is fun as hell.

screwed up my installation a little

Was using shinobi just to get set up. Plan to find a suitable BI box this weekend and then the real fun begins. I'm actually excited about the thought of rotating the camera 90 degree as my point of view is higher than it is wide. This was not something I even considered, so that's sweet!

Haha, it was already white on white. WAF is a contributing factor in installing more cameras.

I'm learning, future cameras will get this treatment. Luckily this issue doesn't seem unfixable or as bad as it seemed when originally looking at the footage.

I bought the IPC-T5442T-ZE for its Varifocal capabilities and my venture to get into cameras around the house for surveillance.

I have this guy, IPC-T5442T-ZE, soI believe it supports flipping the image, as I saw it in the settings.

screwed up my installation a little

I went out there and walked around. Watching on my phone I was able to see decent, but my recorder was crashing so I couldn't get saved footage. Separate issue I need to solve. I heard your suggestion loud and clear which is why I went out there. Once I capture some footage, I will share it...

screwed up my installation a little

agreed. So I went out and tweaked it a bit for the better, I think. So before, I had it faced more to the right to capture this lower corner onto the entryway. The thinking was that if an intruder crawled up there I would miss them. Well, what freaking robber is james bonding to the door...

Good idea, I'll give this a shot. I guess there's a bit more to the testing than reviewing the image on the computer while holding and testing positions in the middle of the day.

I did under 7' as suggested in the wiki. Perhaps it's deceiving as the walkway is a step down so the walkway itself would be just over 7` and the doorway area under.

screwed up my installation a little

Curious, if the wall wasn't there, would it change the overall image? Discussing with the wife, because it is in the doorway she says it is where she wants it. Plus, now there is a hole in the wall, so there is not a ton of moving. If the image itself of the yard wouldn't change, I won't fret...

A reason to add one more camera

curious, how much is a good LPR? I only have one camera so far, but I showed this and some LPR footage to my wife and she says get one. We recently had some car theft on the street and it seems one of those my allow me to crack the case...

screwed up my installation a little

so, one thing I did not account for was IR flair (if that's the technical term). Installed during the day and then night came. Things are still decent but curious how much I can do to make it better. Also, because it is my first cameral, maybe I am overreacting. I tried shifting down and...

Trying to determine my path into cameras around my house

camera 1 installed. I am off and running on my journey now. Only question is, did I F up putting the camera slightly farther back. I asked the wife where she preferred it and she said closer to the house. Now I am curious if I will have issues with IR flair. I guess I will know tonight...
