Why use SD card in an outdoor camera?

@looney2ns are you using a single hard drive to hold all of your BI media?

    What EliteDesk for BI?

What form factor is preferred? It looks like the SFF is the one to have. I’m not seeing any cheap computers on eBay that are the 6th generation or newer i7. They are asking more than $700. Brand new g4 is about a 1,000 and slightly more if you add a few accessories OR upgrades like HDMI. Notice...

    What EliteDesk for BI?

@fenderman as I recall your recent favorite PC for BI is an HP EliteDesk. I spent a couple of hours studying the different models and searching the net... is there a certain sweet spot model? I assume 800 G4 is too new and the G1 is too old. What would you be looking for today for your personal...

    BlueIris on your TV!

@bp2008 Just curious, what's the preferred way to view your feed? Is it optimal to have the BI computer close to the TV or receiver and connect via HDMI? Or, is it just as good to use a browser connection? What's UI2/UI3, I'm assuming some type of stream that can be accessed by a web browser...

Why use SD card in an outdoor camera?

@looney2ns I'm in the process of ordering a few MicroSD cards for my 5231s. Do you typically run cards in all of your cams...? Are the cameras always recording to these cards independent of BI settings, 24/7? In your experience, roughly how much video can be cached on these cards with 64gb vs...

    How many internal hard drives...?

Although I have no idea how many cameras I will have in the end, I’m starting with 2 and can see having at least 8. Assume 2mp, 15fps, h264, continuous recording and 30 days of retention if possible and with some room for growth. Perhaps the motion clips are saved for 30 days and the continuous...

    Continuous or Motion Recording?

I understand and I appreciate what BI has become and the very reasonable cost and especially relate on a developer level since I’ve been the sole programmer on significant projects. Thanks for your input, R

    Continuous or Motion Recording?

It’s not that it needs to be pretty but I just notice and appreciate refined interface objects... such as those that allow a polygon type zone-mapping... and the integration of software and hardware, one example of that is the UNIFI products (switches, APs, routers, cameras) where things like...

    Continuous or Motion Recording?

Of course, I understand that the Nest business model is expensive... yet, no matter the cost, I still might like a certain feature or workflow offered by other software. BTW: I really enjoyed the software from Nest and UNIFI.... but it looks like I’m going to become a BI user. I just wish the...

Saving an event from multiple cams...

Using BI, do we have the ability to gang-select clips for download? I saw a recent tutorial video where it was quite a few steps (disabling cameras and such, I'm sure that was not necessary) to download a clip and where the clip range was only usable for that one clip. So, I would hope that you...

    Running BI on a VM...?

Okay, after a lot of reading, I know that the leadership here recommends to run BI on bare metal... However, I have several non-Mac things that need to be hosted on my LAN and if I buy a PeeCee for each thing seems like there will a bit of clutter that could be avoided. A major benefit of VMs...

    Blue Iris Video Tutorials

So, there is no way to set an in and end point for a certain camera and to export the same time frame from other cameras all at once?? That seems like a major shortcoming.

Anyone running 8th gen Intel without memory leak problems in Blue Iris?

Care to tell us more about your build and the cost? How many drives inside? I’m assuming SSD plus at least one rotational minimum. Why did you decide to build your own? Did you have to buy a copy of Windows 10 Pro? Thanks, Robert

    CPU Usage with GUI on

What version of Windows are you using and what fancy i7 do you have? New or used? Btw: I like the idea of monitoring a few cams on a regular basis on a 55” 1080p display and I might want more than one device to see these cams. I’ve not purchased a physical PC in my life being a Mac guy I’ve...

    Continuous or Motion Recording?

Do you recommend continuous recording or just motion events? When I was mucking with NestCam it recorded continuously and it set markers that allowed a quick scrubbing of long videos and it was easy to save a clip. So, what do you recommend? Currently I’m running SecuritySpy on a Mac with...

Blue Iris can do so much

I have a friend that was using security spy on a Mac mini. He ran out of capacity and now has a hikvision NVR and is super happy with it. Here it seems the string recommendation is BI. I wish I had some NVR experience so I’d fully grasp the BI benefits.

    Review-Dahua SD6CE245U-HNI Starlight PTZ 45x Zoom

Let me see if I understand how each of these connections are used: 1-Audio out? This is output of a built in mic? Wouldn’t this normally get routed via Network cable? Analog? 2- Audio In. For using an external mic? If so, any built in mic is disabled? 3-Alarms? How might I use this feature...
