Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

I just have to report back. I took the plunge with the update and all went well. Yay! My reasoning for updating was to get the 'bridge mode'. I am running all my cameras to a POE switch and then have only one cable to run to my NVR that was in a different room. Fortunately, with this update I...

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

Nope, no 'E'. :) Would it still work?

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

I like the idea in the video above. I looked into it, and it looks like my model should have the bridge mode capability, although I believe my firmware needs to be updated. Does anyone happen to know where to get the firmware for the NVR5216-16P-4KS2? I see so many that look similar, and just...

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

Thanks for the reply. So what you're saying, the cable coming from the POE switch doesn't go directly to the NVR, IT goes to a regular switch first and then from there it goes to the NVR LAN port?

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

Hi there. So having a 4 year old and a wife that works from home, makes it a little hard to do anything with the network. So with that said, I am barely starting to do the upgrade now. :) @wittaj, in the diagram you provided above, I am assuming that the Enet line that goes from the camera's...

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

Ok, now I get it. This statement says it all... "So in this case the only time the cameras go thru the router is when we are accessing them remotely. But the cameras never go thru the router to get to the NVR. " Perfect. Thanks again... Mike

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

Thank you so much for the detailed answer. So, maybe a dumb question, but if not going through the router, how are you able to access the streams remotely, if needed? I am still going through the NVR and not using anything like Blue Iris. Mike

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

Quick question, do you happen to know the bandwidth of each camera? I currently have 11 of the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE cameras. I am trying to redesign my network, and didn't want the camera feed to interfere with my Internet speed. My intent was to leave the POE switch (which all cameras will...

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

Sorry to bother again, but looking at the switches and the PoEaf/at specs, it looks like the voltage output will be between 44v and 57v. How does this work when the spec on the cameras has an input voltage of only 12v? Or am I missing something here... I was looking at the Netgear GS316PP...

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

Thank you for your reply. So, just to clarify, are you saying that the (10) cameras will to into (10) ports of the PoE Switch, then a cable will go from the PoE Switch to the non-PoE switch, and then only a single cable from the non-PoE switch to the LAN/WAN of the NVR will work? I don't need...

Connecting cameras to PoE switch, then to NVR

Hello all. So, I currently have (10) IPC-HDW5231R-ZE cameras hooked to my NVR-5216-16P-4KS2 in my garage. All the wires come from the attic through a hole in the ceiling. I am wanting to move all my equipment to a closet in the office for better temperature control. I really don't want to...

Best Wireless Router with VLAN support

Wow, didn't think about that. So I can still use the Dahua app to see what's going on with my cameras, and yet prevent the cameras from "calling home?" Mike

Best Wireless Router with VLAN support

Thank you for your reply. I would like remote access to my cameras so I can get notified of events, so the "blocking Internet access" isn't an option for me. I currently am running DD-WRT, and I know that the option isn't available for this model. When you speak of "small business" router...

Best Wireless Router with VLAN support

Hello all. I purchase a WRT3200ACM a while back, and I am kind of disappointed that it doesn't support VLANs. I want to segregate my security cameras from the rest of my network, because of all the talk of there being backdoors in some of the camera firmware. So, I guess my question is, what...

    New Camera Setup

That's good to know that I will have plenty. So, do you recommend 24 hour recording, or just on trigger? If you do the trigger only, how would it compensate for "pre-trigger" recording of say 5 or 10 seconds? Thanks for all your input. Mike

I am going with (2) 6TB drives. I am assuming that I can just run them in a JBOD configuration with this NVR? Mike

    New Camera Setup

Thank you both so much for this excellent information. @giomania, I totally forgot about this document. I had seen it a little bit back. Thanks for refreshing my memory. :) Quick question, will I need anything from the disks that came either with the NVR or the cameras? Thanks again, Mike

    New Camera Setup

Good morning all, I just received my order from Andy with the following hardware, and I am just wondering if there are any quick setup instructions? I plugged in the NVR, and the GUI is a lot more feature packed than the Lorex system that I had before. Can it all be done through the NVR GUI...

    h.264/h.265 Question

Sounds good. I am assuming that both the camera and NVR would need to support h.265+ to benefit from that? Thanks, Mike

    h.264/h.265 Question

Hello all, o I just have a quick question about the whole h.264/h.265 compression technology. Does this only affect the bit rate while recording (less bandwidth and storage space), or does this also affect the playback bit rate, e.g. through a mobile device? I know I currently struggle to get...

Hi Andy, I am interested in 10 of the IPC-HDW5231R-Z cameras NTSC and 1 of the NVR5216-4KS2 16CH NVRs. What would the cost for this be shipped to New Mexico, USA? Obviously I am a member of ipcamtalk.com. :) Also, I saw a section that says to only order when you are doing discounts, how...

    EmpirtTech to Dahua Cross-Reference

Hello all. I tried finding the answer to this, with no luck. Is there a way to cross reference the products sold by Andy (Empire Technology) to those on the Dahua website? I've copy/pasted many numbers from Andy's store to the Dahua website, and I can't seem to find any matches? Am I missing...

Great example of Dahua Starlight 2MP Verifocal Performance in low light

Hi there. Very informative article. What brand NVR or software are you using that you are able to draw detection zones like that? Not sure if you just added a Dahua camera on another brand DVR, or using something like Blue Iris... Thanks, Mike

    Expandable IP Security Camera System

Hello all. I am looking for a 16 channel IP Security Camera system that be expanded easily. I recently bought a Lorex system, which claim that there system is ONVIF compatible, but when trying to add another camera from another manufacturer, I was not able to set it up. The reason that I chose...
