    I use both BI time and date and the camera's time and date function. That way I can easily see then they are not aligned. I am not really resource constrained so that is not an issue.

    If you set the gateway address purposely wrong, ie: 192.168.0.55 for example does that block the camara's attempt to call home? That should prevent it from communicating outside the local network.

    Get some aluminum tape. The type with real aluminum and adhesive backing. Auto parts places have it. Clean the surface very well. It sticks incredibly well. Cover your holes and paint over with the correct color. I have some patches like that that are over 30 years old.
