I think I understand the concept of using the two different networks one at a time. And I can make my iPhone display the VPN indicator on either, as if its working...but I don't think it is.
Using the cameras IP address in safari, I can't get to the Login page with VPN on !
HOWEVER ... I can get...
Thank You both! Well said. I think I got it, except for who's FRED? In any case I guess I need to buy a NAS box that supports NFS. (NFS because I'm Mac based). Can anyone recommend a product that has a stupid simple setup?
My 3rd camera (DS-2CD2232-I5) has no micro-SD Slot so the (thin) documentation indicates I am to record to a NAS.
Does this include the internal/external drives on the macs in my network, ...OR are they quite literal...Ethernet connected external drives on my network? What about DVRs...
Thank You SYankee!, I will but I will have to use a different app as H2TestW seems to be a Windows only tool. It looks like something called F3 was inspired by H2TestW but is for the mac. Another one is SDSpeed, but I have not tried either yet.

I'm using OpenVPN Connect on my phone, and I get the VPN indicator at the top of the screen, but I don't know where to go from there. How do I see my home network, or Mac, or especially my Hik IP Camera.
I'm attempting to connect to the camera via iVMS-4500. But I keep getting connection failed...
I can see my camera in Live View in Safari on my mac (with plugin)...BUT playback is not working.
I can locate the recorded files on my macs hard drive, but it appears the browser player is not pointed at them.
When I search for video files in Player it returns zero. At this point I'm NOT...
As I understand it, with my VPN on I launch iVMS 4500 app to see the camera. I've tried to add my camera to devices but its not connecting. I'm fairly sure I'm doing it wrong.
But I also don't know how to see my network so i'm not 100% sure the VPN is working correctly. I do get the VPN logo at...
I have a DS-2CD4212FWD-IZD with an internal slot. The spec sheet says it is a micro SD/SDHC/SDXC up to 128G.
Can anybody recommend a specific card that plays well with hikvision? BestBuy has the Samsung - EVO Plus 64GB microSDXC UHS-I (30mbs sustained) for $20
Thanks!
Rick
Baby steps! But I'm getting closer! I found that I mis typed the user name in the profile page of OpenVPN Connect on the iphone...DAH! So I fixed that and now it appears I have the VPN working! There is a VPN indicator just to the right of my wifi indicator on the top left of the phone. I...
Thanks for Responding ...Yes I think Ive done that and it had me export two addition files separate from the .opvm files. They are " inside cert.pem" and "key.pem", but i don't know what6 to do with them. At this point when i try to access the VPN on the phone, it reports back with...
Great! Thanks for the reply! I think I have that covered as the router OpenVPN setup has the option to create a web address for the client rather than a IP address.
But I do have a Question... The router generated a file called client.ovpm and a folder with two documents inside cert.pem and...
Hello,
I've been advised by you kind folk that I should set up an openVPN for remote access to my Hik IP cameras from an iPhone. My Router is an Asus RT-AC86U with support for OpenVPN. To accomplish this I'm following the procedure as described here...
I'll be using OpenVPN Connect on my phone...
Thank You AlastairStevensen that helped a ton!
I turned off UPnP from all three cameras and my router. The akamai whitepaper does not list my router (ASUS RT-AC8600U) as vulnerable but I turned it off just the same.
Hello All!
My camera Hikvision DS-2cd2632f-is was hacked. It is a gray market camera that has a 3rd party firmware.
Not up gradable with Hik firmware I belief.
The iris was stopped down, and the name was changed, along with the passwords.
The camera was still functioning but was extremely...
Hello,
I have a HiK DS-2CD4212FWD-IZH, this model has a motorized zoom lens.
I just recently got it functioning on my LAN via my mac with safari browser.
The issue I'm having is that there is no PTZ control when accessing it this way.
I understand that Pan and Tilt will never work but I need...
Hello again all,
First off, I'd like to express my gratitude to everyone but especially NoloC. He gave me a call and after at least an hour on the phone we got one of the cameras working. YAY! And as it turns out we worked in the same industry and had several mutual friends and business...
I'm both stubborn and patient but kinda dense when it comes to network protocols.
I got one of the new cameras to initialize (have not tried the second one yet).
Regarding the IP address I need to change it to...please go slow here... "xxx is some number assigned to the MAC."
OK I'm confused...
I disconnected one of the new cameras and activated the other by adding a password to it. But I don't know what to change the default IP address to...so I left it alone and as expected, It timed out in my browser. What should I change the IP addrees to?
