Best way to save video for police --LaView (Hikvision)
Download and install the DSFilters V6.1.2.2 from their site and VLC/Windows media player will work with your backup files. http://overseas.hikvision.com/us/Tools_82.html#prettyPhoto Hikvision tools (from the same link) has a built-in player that can do multiple cameras if i recall correctly.- Fruit

Idiot's questions and overview for IP CAM installation on Hikvision NVR
If your NVR has virtual Host (look under Network) then you'll still able to access it from the Lan. 1080 P is the most recording it is designed for, won't work with 3 or 4 mp (unless the model you want only have 3 or 4 mp then you have to set them down to 2 MP).- Fruit

Is it worth buying grey market or Chinese version of Hikvision cameras?
All good things must end though, there are people trying very hard to cut off this source, don't know how much longer you can get a private label, US region camera for such little markup. Loose lips sink ships. -

IP camera system bandwidth?? Myth or what?
NVR Bandwidth use is mainly determine by 3 things: Resolution/FPS/Quality of picture If you have a low bandwidth machine but want to use 3 MP cameras, you can lower the FPS (i'm guessing most people won't lower resolution or quality of picture...or else they wouldn't have bought a 3 MP camera). -

Got to say I am completely shocked by this discovery. ...it is like the student has surpassed the master! You can TFTP between the two if you get a 'Upgrade fail' through the web GUI (the LTS firmware are TFTP-able just like the hikvision one), and probably shouldn't try unless you have US... -

What are people's experience with Aliexpress??
I would treat aliexpress like loaning out money to a friend...if they pay it back, great! just have low expectations that they won't pay you back and you'll never hear from them again... Don't think I would order anything over $50 from aliexpress at a time. -

New arrival today, DHL is impressive
If it makes you feel better, these plastic mount will work with the small plastic wall mount for the Dome cameras and looks nice (you should just have two holes for screws). The metal one only works with the the large metal wall mount that some find too large. -

First i would try to connect it without NVR, make sure it works well and you know all the network settings. Then in the NVR try to first use it without built-in POE to connect to it (turn plug N Play to Manual when you add the camera if you have all built-in POE ports) if that goes ok then try... -

IVMS-4500 Connection Failed
Your default gateway is not filled in. Should be whatever your Dlink's/router's IP address is. if that doesn't work, see if your dlink is connected to a second router or router/modem combo which also has to be port forwarded.
