    motion sensitivity

I use different NVR software that sets the cameras for me on a level of 1-10 in the software client. I normally have the cameras set to 1 and it is fine, and when looking in the camera that is 20. The highest sensitivity I have set on the NVR is 3, and on the camera that moves it to 40...

Why do businesses use such crappy security cameras?

I went to a security and installer expo yesterday and visited several camera vendors and sat through a couple seminars (hikvision was one of them) with installers and it is shocking what professional installers so not know. Literally still installers that do not understand ip addresses, as in...

Cats and narrow hallway - lens angle and 90 deg rotation

Well, in my experience with a 2.8 mounted in a corner you could see the floor easily enough and people standing at your door up to maybe 6-7 feet away if they were normal height but after that if you want to the hallway you'd lose the floor. If you could mount the camera at 10 foot then you...

    4mp cams

As a note I have upgraded a camera to 5.3.2 firmware and the WDR problem remains. I have set the noise reduction to 100 to see is that problem is any better and I'll know more once someone drives by the camera. I messed with the settings a lot and by adjusting the contrast on the camera side I...

Trouble with settings on new 4MP turret

I have had trouble once or twice getting settings to stay and each time it was a browser or plugin problem. I only use IE to work with cameras now and make sure to update the plugin for newer firmware versions and I have had no further issues.

HK 2342 WD-1 / BI recording streaks really bad

Also, make sure noise reduction is set to 50 or below, mine streak badly with that set high on the 4mp cameras too. 16mb way too high for 1080, just set it to variable medium or higher and let it go for now as a test also.

    SD Cards Longevity question

SanDisk cards not not real popular in a lot a dashcam forums but the main reason for this is that they are faked all the time and people have issues. Then you try and run down the issues and find out it was a fake purchased from ebay or somewhere. I have yet to kill a SD card, they are lasting...

I asked Hikvison to check a serial number for me, and here is their response,

For what it is worth I would never expect to get good support from a camera manufacturer in general. I used to try and ask questions of ACTi and Vivotek and even Axis and quickly learned it was a total waste of my time. I'd never even expect a budget camera vendor to provide support at all to...

Best IP camera for adventure game

Nellys is a great place to purchase from, they are a sponsor of the forum here and have great customer service and support if you need it. I think it is worth buying from a known vendor with good support even more so if you are new to the IP camera world as you are more likely to need assistance.

    4mp cams

Ok, here are several shots to show what the 4mp camera is doing. I have WDR off and on for default settings and DelBoys settings. I also have a 3mp bullet same thing, but just default settings as it gets the point across just fine. I did also try my 4mp camera at 50hz but no changes to the...

    4mp cams

You definitely have the same issue as me, that nice grey image. I'll set up a 3mp and 4mp comparison here a little later today to demonstrate the issues we're having a little more clearly. Can you post the same image with WDR off, all the other settings the same?

    4mp cams

It's not the colors washing out, it is the grey tint of the entire image that is the issue. Also, there is no shadow change. I have over 1,000 cameras and have no issues with them and WDR settings and the like, but these 4mp ones are massively not doing anything close to what WDR does on any...

    4mp cams

Here are some more examples from me playing with the camera just now, check out the "tint" that WDR is doing to the well lit areas of an image Just turns the whole image to a grey tint. (these are copped areas as I cannot share whole photo, sorry but I did get one with shadows to see. WDR...

    4mp cams

Wow, you can sure see the WDR screwing up in those images for sure, it is off in the second image I assume? I leave WDR on on most of my 3mp cameras but set it to only like 7 and it works fine, not a monster improvement but it also does not hurt anything and night shots are still good. Noise...

    4mp cams

I believe the trick is to have some actual sunlight to test in, not just rainy overcast weather as then the shot is already grey and you can't see the issue! Being in the UK maybe you've not seen sunlight lately to test? :) Hahaha, sorry, I jest only but could not resist seeing where you are...

    4mp cams

I have the 4mp bullets. Have not picked up a turret version of the 4mp yet as they were not available when I did my last order. At least we know it is the same between the two styles. I have 40 of the bullets, and so far they all have the same issue so it has to be firmware.

Replacing stock cooling with aftermarket cooling

I use the 212 EVO in my home desktop, and I built a couple Autocad machines here at work and used them there too and they are working great and I really like the cooler. Home cooler has been in longer and the fan did go out at one point so I picked up another one and it was an easy fix. All...

    LTS IP Cameras firmware

On the LTS site the latest firmware is 5.2.0 and it is right in the download area. http://www.ltsecurityinc.com/downloads Type 8232 in the search field and you'll get the link for the firmware. It is my favorite firmware so far and it is as far as I will upgrade a camera to, the later ones...

    4mp cams

Yes, I can confirm that the WDR is horrible and messed up on 5.3.1 and 5.3.2 at least as those are the two firmware versions I have tried. I have shared a couple of photos in another thread on this, so far no fix that I am aware of anyway. I have several 4mp cameras installed in different...

    Reboot nvr daily or weekly?

I never reboot my NVRs. I have at this time currently installed and working 85 separate NVRs all based on Windows of some flavor and I have no reboot need on any of them. Some I'm sure are rebooted by power outages and the like but we do have UPSes installed at all locations, but no specific...

It has happened! No Live view in Chrome

IE actually works pretty well. I mean I hate it on principal as any self respecting geek does, but it really does work just fine now days. IE beats chrome on several tests even now. Chrome is the browser I like the least of them all though, I seriously hate that browser as it is so darn slow...

It has happened! No Live view in Chrome

Don't use Chrome. There, it is fixed! Sorry had to lol, but there is not much to be done for now anyway. Every camera maker I have used will have the same issue so it is not just a Hikvision thing. They all use plugins of some type or another. IE is what I have always used for...

    Hikvision's new 4MP 2-series

In my case all of my cameras are remote, so when I view them it is all over the internet and stream size does come in. It does not matter for recording locally besides I get less recording on my NVR. I need to have 100 days footage on average so stream size on 20-30 camera installs at a...

    Hikvision's new 4MP 2-series

I am beginning to wonder myself actually, I cannot see any better image at night at all and in fact my 3mp is giving me better images overall. Why Hikvision?

I used to wonder the same thing. I was a user of the same two brands as you, and Vivotek also. When I say I was a user I mean I used 300+ of these on my system and a few years back I dismissed the Hikvision brand as home user stuff that was cheap based on my perception of the cost. I then...

    Hikvision's new 4MP 2-series

Yep, so for the store brand ones are not having this issue as far as I know. I just got another 4mp installed at another location today, I have 12 3mp Hiks here and just added the 4mp today so I will see how it compares tonight and I have a lot of 3mp ones here to compare to so that will help.

Ha, yes I meant 5.3.1. Sorry about that. My settings went pretty well, for the first night I am pleased but I honestly do not see an improvement over the 3mp cameras. At this location I have a 3mp and 2 4mp within 100 feet of each other all aimed in the same direction with similar lighting...
