Why I Like Redundant Views/Multiple Cam Views

Do you have any photos showing roughly how far away the plates are for the LPRs?

    Weird PTZ mounting location help

All great ideas, thanks folks. What type of lag screws do you guys use for the ptz mounting brackets?

    Weird PTZ mounting location help

It will be just one of five cams in the front, looking in the front yard right in front of this porch and optex PIR motion alarm trigger to a preset of the front door area (just an alternative angle for another overview cam). This spot has good views of both (small area), but just thinking...

    Weird PTZ mounting location help

Unfortunately the other side beam is the same height, just optical illusion seeing the wood behind the beam with a gap (I guess unless I used some long bolts to span that gap). I've got a pfa120 ready too.

    Weird PTZ mounting location help

Slight problem is the ceiling under the porch is at a steep angle, so would have to do some wood thing for a level spot to anchor there as well. I could put it under the beam, but then the ptz is quite low.

    Weird PTZ mounting location help

Looking for advice. I want to mount my new PTZ under a front porch so pretty much only the actual camera portion (black in color) is visible from the street. As shown in the photos, the wood beams are slightly shorter than the ptz mount screw holes. What would you do? Just big bolts in the...

Review - Dahua IPC-HFW7442H-Z 4MP Ultra AI Varifocal Bullet Camera

@Wildcat_1 I apologize if I overlooked it, but what is the rough distance to the plates for your night LPR testing? I read that you moved to a different location and were fully zoomed in. Thanks as always for your extremely detailed reviews!

Blurry before sun down and big chunks of IVS yellow

Thanks! Any idea what causes these sorts of problems? I find that I experience them quite randomly even when I haven't changed any settings for months. I keep CPU use pretty reasonable with 15fps ~6000kbps CBR, only one IVS rule, no motion detection. I need to update the firmware anyways, so I...

Blurry before sun down and big chunks of IVS yellow

Two odd issues that came up out of nowhere. HDW5231R-ZE 1) I schedule switch to night and start it an hour or two before sunset because things don't look great in color when this east facing camera has low light. Recently the focus has been horrible for an hour or so after switching to night...

How to get cables into house from trench?

Thank you, this is very helpful. I think one of my walls is plaster vs. drywall, but I might be able to go into the garage wall and then up into the attic. Very kind of you to offer. I used to live in the medical center area in Houston, but have since moved.

How to get cables into house from trench?

I'm thinking about running some burial cable in the ground, but I'm not sure how people get the cables into the house. Could you help share some photos of how your cables get into your house from the ground trench? My other cameras are under the soffit, so go right into the attic. I'm trying...

Few random days no IVS events logged on PTZ

A couple times now I've checked on the NVR itself and from gDMSS app and for a day or two there are absolutely no smart recording IVS intrusion events. Then the next day without any change to settings IVS intrusion events are on the timeline for weeks into the future without issue. The PTZ 24/7...

I need ideas, on where to install a camera at the entrance

@windguy love your birdhouse. Curious what you used for the base pole and how you ran cabling. Direct burial or regular cat5/6 in conduit in a hollow metal pole?

    Opinions on night footage

To close the loop, my shutter speed was too fast at 1/1000 based on my scene. I changed it to 1/500 and then 1/250 and the facial clarity is so much better and no issues with ghosting with the level of visible and IR light. At 1/250 I was able to reduce gain to 27 instead of around 50 before...

    Opinions on night footage

Thanks! I've got an active deterrent cam over by the cars and a cam at the doorbell too, so I like your idea of treating this one as more of an overview cam.

    Opinions on night footage

Could you help me understand what you mean? Doesn't the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE have a pretty big sensor? It almost looks like the person's face is washed out with light. I'm going to zoom in more and speed up the shutter speed tonight to test.

    Opinions on night footage

Thank you. I just read through that post and it helped my baseline knowledge. Based on my clip, do you think the issue is ghosting or too much light? If I'm set on shutter priority 0 to 1ms, that's the same as 1/1000 shutter speed, right? Does that mean I have too much visible and IR light and...

    Opinions on night footage

I'm using a IPC-HDW5231R-ZE from Andy from maybe 15 feet from the front path. I've also got a cmir110 plus a small circular cm vision infrared pointed down the front path in the lower left of the frame on the front porch. Settings are on shutter priority range 0-1ms and around 15 for HLC due...

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

Thanks! I'm weighing my options between taking down the existing camera to reach the connector in the junction box for the splitter and running another line. I love the option if I can't easily get a fish rod through the same attic hole as the existing camera once I drill a hole right next to it...

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

@wittaj @samplenhold Thank you both! I'll start planning running another cable for it and then order. Some people stole the catalytic converter from my wife's car and while I could see both cars involved from two angles, I wish I could have given the police some plate numbers too. Looking...

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

Just to clarify, the screenshots still showing the sidewalk are already zoomed into 13.5mm. The other screenshots I just zoomed in more digitally to get an idea of what it might look like with a better LPR bullet. Would I be able to get away with 32mm zoom? I believe it's about 80 feet from...

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

Sorry for the delay, but I finally turned my IPC-HDW5231R-ZE turret (on the very corner of the house) and zoomed to 13.5mm just to test the angle before buying a bullet for LPR. On this first photo, could you help crop it to show how much more zoomed in I'll need the new bullet to be and mark...

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

Thanks, all! I have a IPC-HDW5231R-ZE turret in that spot and I'll find some time this week to see how a zoomed in shot looks at like 12mm to see which bullet I should look into.

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

Haha! I do wish I had a hydrant in front! I may have come up with a solution. What if I replaced this camera on the very edge of house to shoot right over my driveway where no one can park in front of?

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

Here is the IPVM for the very long shot to the cross street and text label for where that silver pickup truck is parked in the other photos. Google says it is almost 250', 116.4 PPF. What is the max distance most have done successfully?

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

It's a perfect angle, but my issue seems to be that if there are any parked cars on my side of the street, they would block the line of sight? I have a one-story house, so can't really shoot over the cars.
  27. C

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

When I faked a car parked in the worst possible spot, it would be probably too sharp of angle to a plate. The only other angle not potentially blocked by cars is from the 1 story house fascia to the street 3 houses away. There is a cross street there, so it would probably miss a few cars...

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

Does zoom change the performance or am I okay as long as I have a very tight shot on the plate (even if I'm not as far of distance from camera to plate in my environment)? I think I'll probably need to be at 12mm or less in my setup to just see bumpers. This is assuming I can get a less sharp...

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll try parking a car right next to my driveway to see the best angle I could get under that scenario. I'll try to get the angle bigredfish suggested between those two parked cars without being blocked by a parked car next to my driveway.

    Thoughts on sidewalk angle

Thinking about adding a LPR cam at the edge of my property right at the sidewalk. See photo where I would install the camera on a short pole. Could this angle work to hit the spot with the red X? Photo taken was 4mm.
