Giving up on PC + Blue Iris- should I try an NVR?

No need to be snippy. From what I've learned, I agree that NVRs are more limited. I was just referring to the weaknesses of Windows running reliably for long periods of time without reboot.

DMSS setup with NVR; connection failed

Oh yea. Access isn’t a problem anymore.

Giving up on PC + Blue Iris- should I try an NVR?

I don’t necessarily agree that a PC running Windows is as reliable as a purpose-built NVR, but I suppose it depends on the NVR.

Giving up on PC + Blue Iris- should I try an NVR?

Im starting out with an NVR and may advance to what you describe. For right now though, I just want something 24-7 and reliable and an NVR seems like a good path for that.

DMSS setup with NVR; connection failed

So when I connect via OpenVPN from my iPhone on cellular to DMSS, it comes up but the live camera feed times out right before it loads. Do you know if there’s a way to adjust the timeout in the event I don’t have a 5G ultra wide connection?

DMSS setup with NVR; connection failed

I have an EmpireTech NVR on my main LAN, which is where my iPhone has WiFi as well. I've blocked the NVR's Internet access. I'm trying to add the NVR to the DMSS mobile app. I scan the NVR's QR code, select "wired" initialization, enter the name of the NVR and password, and I get a Connection...

Help with Camera Choice - 2nd story placement

Makes sense. I'll just stick with ole trusty...plus, with the varifocal lens, I can adjust them to best compliment each other for maximum coverage and focal point.

Help with Camera Choice - 2nd story placement

I saw that one. Looks cool but as you said, no IR and aren't the image sensors too small for 4k? Perhaps higher resolution would be better for a broader, longer range purpose in this case where there's no close range motion? There is a street light way back there and I have a porch light down...

Help with Camera Choice - 2nd story placement

Thanks. Do you have a camera you recommend? What about a unit like this one? https://empiretech01.com/products/empiretech-ipc-pfw83242-a180-s2-4-8-mp-multi-sensor-panoramic-bullet-network-camera Or should I just put two T54IR-ZE-S3s cameras up there to get coverage? It would be cheaper than...

Help with Camera Choice - 2nd story placement

I've ordered 5 EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 cameras for strategic placement 8-10 ft off the ground. I'd like to have a 6th camera under the eave (attached to soffit) of my second story (18-20ft high) facing out to my backyard for broad surveillance. Not looking to identify, just simply detect...

    P2P on isolated VLAN

Thanks. Even though the NvR puts the cameras on their own network, do I still need to put the NVR itself on its own VLAN? I just think about all of the other IoT that we all have that needs Internet access. How is that any different from a risk standpoint? I’m not trying to be a smart ass…I’m...

    P2P on isolated VLAN

I know the gold standard is VPNing into NVR. But if the cameras and NVR are on a separate VLAN and only the NVR has trusted LAN and Internet access (not the cameras), what’s the real risk of only allowing P2P so DMSS mobile app can be used more conveniently from the Internet?

Noob - New Security System using EmpireTech Cams and NVR

Noob - New Security System using EmpireTech Cams and NVR

Ah ok, that makes sense. So this is the one I can start with as sort of the "one size fits all" model for an average user like me: https://empiretech01.com/products/empiretech-ipc-t54ir-ze-s3-1-1-8-cmos-4mp-ir-starlight-vari-focal-turret-security-camera Turret, IR illuminator, starlight...

Noob - New Security System using EmpireTech Cams and NVR

Great details. Thanks. So, I'm also reading I should get a varifocal camera first to test which fixed lens focal length I need in each location. This is what I'm thinking...will this work? https://empiretech01.com/products/empiretech-8mp-ir-vari-focal-eyeball-network-camera-ipc-t5842t-ze...

Noob - New Security System using EmpireTech Cams and NVR

You said above that most of you on here don't use the white LED spotlight built into these types of cams. Why not? I didn't realize these cams can't see IR illumination. I guess I'll have to test it at night first in the various spots around my house to see if there's enough light to provide...

Noob - New Security System using EmpireTech Cams and NVR

Thanks for the quick and thoughtful response. I'm not really looking to IDENTIFY beyond 15-20ft. In one case, I need a broader FOV but not much distance because I'm covering the space in front of my garage. In another case, I want a camera pointing down my driveway and into the cul de sac to...

Noob - New Security System using EmpireTech Cams and NVR

I'm a total noob but have been reading a lot on Reddit and here about how best to do this. I ordered Reolink cams and NVR but I will now be returning them :). Looking to deck out my property with a variation of these cameras (2.8 and 3.6 depending on use case / FOV needed)...
