    front porch cam position

^This. I had a 30 metre ethernet cable I dragged around trying to see what position gives me the best view.

newbie and lots of questions please read :)

By remote image do you mean on iVMS-4500? The camera outputs 2 streams, the main stream and the substream. The substream is lower resolution therefore lower bitrate, it is more suitable for remote viewing due to the reduced bitrate. Most internet connections cannot handle more than 1mbps upload...

newbie and lots of questions please read :)

I'm not sure what the capture mode thing is as I don't have it on my NVR, you must be running one of the later firmware. It's up to you on the resolution. You gain more width at 2MP/1080p but lose a bit of height. At 3MP you lose width but gain height and a bit more detail. I believe most...

    Nvr questions

You have to give them a bit of ventilation. Initially you need to hook up a monitor to format the drives and set basic stuff up (at least I did) seemed easier. 7604NI-E1/4P is perfect for 4 cameras. However it does seem like it will be over $200 (almost $250). You can get the 'N' model which...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

HOLY S**T $743 for a 7608NI-E2 w a 2TB drive... Anyways back on track. With 6 cameras it probably will be maxed out. I don't know if having freezing cold temperatures will make the fan quiet, however with 6 cameras it's inevitable.

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

If you use most of the POE ports the fan probably is maxed out or close to it. It is variable speed though, you can test it if you really want. Unplug the cameras from the POE ports and fire it up, if it is not too warm already you'll barely hear it. I'm not too sure if the fan speed is only...

    Motion detection images low quality

As far as I can tell it's just the way it is with the NVR sending the images. If the camera sent the image it would be recorded quality size. However you do need to change a few things for the camera to be able to see the the internet from the internal POE ports. Refer to this thread for some...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

The only other option is to power the fan externally, IE off the HDD power outlet using a piggyback adapter thingho. This does mean the fan will be on full speed all the time. Not sure if that HDD power is ever switched off for whatever reason i.e. sleeping drive.

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

You have to cut the wire either way as they don't give you the same connector as the stock fan. So I don't see how it is reversible without being obvious. If you want to track down those little connectors the stock fan uses you could just find some from somewhere and splice them in, plug and...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

Those joiner things you get with the Noctuas are ok, they'd be easier for those less technically skilled. You get a better connection with soldering, and more protection with the heatshrink. Beats twisting the wires together and tape.

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

The stock fans are 8200rpm, which is almost double of the Noctua at 4500rpm. And just for reference, stock fans flow 9.43CFM and the Noctuas I believe are 4.8CFM. The fan in the NVR are temperature controlled so they don't go full tilt until it gets a bit warm. But do they scream when you hook...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

Looking at again at pics of the PSU. The gap left by a thinner fan such as the Noctua would be covered by the NVRs cover. However, even a small gap would be detrimental to the cooling as the fan would just suck air from the gap instead of through the PSU. Given that the fan flows less than the...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

I'm not debating that it does fit, it just leaves a gap in the PSU housing. At least it would on my NVR, I do recall there is 2 different power supplies in the 7600 series so maybe that other one doesn't have that problem.

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

You can replace the stock fan with a Noctua NF-A4x10 40mm FLX fan, they're bloody cheap on your side of the pond. Just keep in mind the stock fan is 15 or 20mm (I forgot) and this one is 10mm and this leaves a open gap in the PSU housing which you will need to cover with tape, and only flows...

Am I wasting my time with this attempt ?

I'm due for a new notebook, lightning killed the built in ethernet port which helps me work wonders on devices and network stuff. It was running Vista (I know its bloated like a whale, but works for me), and I just cloned the drive and filled up the small 128gb ssd pretty fast. So back out it...

    Upgrade nvr to V3.0.15 Build150709

I was thinking the same thing. We should really have a sticky or something that has like all basic information. When I started looking at the NVRs I had no idea what was what. Only if you asked E&M would they tell you the SE/P is the older model. Most people wouldn't even have a clue what the...

    Upgrade nvr to V3.0.15 Build150709

There's a respawn option on these Hikvision products so it's all good. E&M previously were selling both the NI and the old SE/P models for basically the same price. My guess is he probably had a lot of stock left, as do many other sellers.

Am I wasting my time with this attempt ?

The prices for them have dropped dramatically in the last few years. I have a feeling maybe not too long from now they will have better $:GB ratio. I put one in my 7 year old notebook and it was like a new machine again.

Mounting a WD HDD in Hikvision7806NI-E2/P Screws too long -anyone else had this?

Might be easier to find a small box of washers. Or give the screws you got a lick with the angle grinder.

Switch the camera manually to night mode, see how it looks. 'Ambient' light really works wonders with IR.

Am I wasting my time with this attempt ?

It technically is, but for storage use ie secondary drive to a faster main drive i.e. an SSD or a 7200rpm drive. They spin at reduced speed to combat heat buildup. Doesn't mean you can't use it in a desktop. It'd just be slower than usual.

Am I wasting my time with this attempt ?

Is that green drive going to be the main drive? If yes, I don't think that's a good idea. In my experience it was just very slow for main system use. As storage drives they're awsome.

    My first attempts have failed..

Emails don't work because as I stated the cameras can't 'see' the internet from where they are. Fenderman/Del Boy/alastairstevenson may be able to answer the email from camera part. You need to port forward, to see the NVR, in which with virtual host then you can see the cameras. If you have...

    My first attempts have failed..

You can't access the camera directly while it's on the NVR POE ports unless you have virtual host or 'mod' it. The camera's can't see the internet this way. You can do the email motion detection on the NVR itself. You need to port forward the correct ports for it to work outside the network...

    Help - new install issues

Did you use that cable that was originally run? or that other cat5e one? That was more of a test to see if it's an compatibility issue with the NVR and sortof cable test. However, at the moment it does definitely seem like an NVR issue. My next suggestion would be a series of power cycling...
