    Question on making lan/cat lines

Honestly, get a piece of say 10' cable, buy the regular crimp tool and some RJ45 connectors. Practice making them and I guarantee you'll be confident and comfortable by the time you run out of cable. I was good to go buy the 7-8th one that I made, its very simple as long as you watch some...

    Total Newb - recommendation

I haven't found the 2342 in 6mm yet. At least not where I have looked. Post a picture of where you plan on mounting the camera and what you want it to cover and I'm sure a lot of folks here can recommend mm size and brand recommendation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Best Value Blue Iris Box - Oct 2016

Recommendation: Get Win10 Pro. U can't remote in with regular Win10 if you wanna modify settings in the cameras and aren't directly at the PC. For HD space, message @vector18, he had a great deal on WD Purple 4TB drives. Get 2 or prepare to pony up the $$$ for an 8TB drive...

    Total Newb - recommendation

You're gonna want two different cameras. Search for ALPR systems on here. Not necessarily the whole setup but the parts about the cameras. For license plates to be clear at that distance and on moving vehicles you'll want a much bigger lens then what you will for the door. Think 25mm or so...

Top right of the forum window, click on Settings. Then on the next page, the lower left under My Account click on General Settings. That next window, scroll all the way down to Miscellaneous Options and click on Basic Editor and save your settings. That should fix it, I had the same issue...

Comcast (Xfinity) will activate 1 Terabyte data limit plan beginning November 1st

3 TB? Wow, that's crazy. I saw the same thing after reading an article so I checked mine, I'm around 460GB a month and that's with 3 girls streaming non stop and myself gaming from time to time. Any chance you could just install an NVR at her house and use two BI names for yourself and...

What Is Best - motion or object detection?

Neither. They are both imperfect. PIR's will help but may not always be practical and are not 100% accurate all the time. Experiment with the settings to see what works best and provides the most accurate settings for what you want for each particular camera.

I've just started dabbling in the Raspberry Pi world. My first one was for a RetroPie gaming console. I'm back in 1992 gaming heaven. I'm also in the process of making/modifying a BrewPi fermentation controller for my home brewing. I find it pretty impressive what they can do these days...

    Follow up re camera installing

Whats the house like? If you have eaves you can mount the cameras there, fish the wire up inside and then thru the attic or even basement to the NVR. $1000 is a lot, it can easily be done for less then 1/4 of that if you watch some youtube videos on installation and don't mind doing it...

    Camera Recommendation for POS stations?

Depending on the distance the camera is mounted to the register, use 4/6mm and cover strictly the keypad and cash drawer (FOV big enough to over the register when the drawer is open with a small buffer around the edges). If you want a wider area, use multiple cameras. Wide area's won't be able...

A homeowner turns the tables on three armed men who broke into her home last Friday

Re: A homeowner turns the tables on three armed men who broke into her home last Frid I would def agree with that. You just need to be prepared for a Gray Man that tries to do harm as opposed to just staying out of the eyes of predators.

A homeowner turns the tables on three armed men who broke into her home last Friday

Re: A homeowner turns the tables on three armed men who broke into her home last Frid I've heard confessions that show both working for and against the homeowner. Some said it acted as a deterrent (although a big barking dog does a much better job as far as I've seen) causing them to skip a...

This has come up in other threads as well. The testing will work but the actual notifications don't. I don't recall seeing an answer as to why, but as long as it appears to be working for you now, that's all the matters. If it starts acting up again, post back.
