    The trick is to create zones next to each other, not above each other. Only then it will trigger if the snow blows horizontally.

    im not familiar with Milestone, but in Blue Iris it is possible to create zones. See if you can create 2 zones and only make it trigger if an object passes van from one to another. This youtube video shows what i mean.

    This is a false sense of security, a person who is able to break in is going to find them in a matter of seconds. If you want real safety you should look into vlans/firewalls, separate networks etc..

    I have a cheap dahua 4108 nvr (could also be a pi, firestick..) on one of the inputs of my yamaha av receiver. I can control it with Home Assistant. When the cam at my front door is triggered, BI will send a mqtt message and HA will switch the yamaha to the NVR input. Works great!

    I would run a temporary network cable, even if its just for a couple of hours. Just to check if everything is working as it should. If you should go with powerline adapters and they give you problems, then at least you know its because of them and not the rest of setup.

    The 192 adress is a local adress, this should only work on wifi. Otherwise you have to configure your wan ip, and: open the port in your router. Which is not recommended, unsafe. Or: setup a vpn. That way you can use local ip's

    gDMSS never gave me any trouble, been using it for years. I read about people having issues with iDMSS though.

    When using BI, what you really want is to make use of Intel Quicksync (assuming you have a Intel CPU). With a VM this is a bit tricky, you'll need to passthrough the onboard gpu.
