    I frame is the full picture, the other frame just hold the bits that have changes since the last frame, so the more I FRAMES the better, but it does use more storage as is like a full frame MPEG screen.

    forgot to mention, even the web browser side of the NVR would not display any video either. to me sounds like they are using a non standard h265 codec.

    i have a DS7716NI-I4 and 6 hikvision cams, one of which is a 'DS-2DE4220IW-D' and supports H265. and when use the mode, i can not view the recording outside of box, either via VLC, Quicktime, or the MAC Hikvision player. so i have had to revert to h264.

    i'm not 100% sure on this, but i think you will find that the 'english' version actually a european version, whilst the 'american' version is a US box. i am not sure the firmware are interchangeable. but i am sure someone will correct me on this.

    yes the xxP means number of PoE ports on the NVR, if you do not need the PoE ports then you you can go for the cheaper NVR.

    yes it can work like your picture, just make sure all your cam (expect the Hikvison one) support ONVIF.

    bitrate. think of it like quality, the higher the bitrate the better quality of the image will be. as to the quality it depends of what the cams bitrate max is. 1080/3MP/4MP is the size of the image.

    i replaced the fan in my DS-7716NI-I4 PSU with http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008S1HNPS you will need to use the plug from the original fan, it's a tight squeeze but it fits, and noticeably quieter (but not silent).

    i just got a DS7716NI-I4/16P only thing i would warn you about is the loud fans, i am aware this is the case of all HikVision NVR's. software is way more useable than Synology's SS.
