That is what I thought. Can you download the compressed file onto a cd or thumb drive? If you can not do that, what do you do if you have to reformat the hard drive?

    Finished lay Cat 5 cable

Update, found some dough, and bought some things. Got all the cable infrastructure completed and punch down on a panel. Bought a POE switch (TP Link 8 port switch). The extra dough allowed me to buy 3 Hikvision 2032 4 mm cameras over the weekend, which arrive Thurs. I also decided to go...

    Finished lay Cat 5 cable

Thanks for the info, I'll check newegg. The switch is POE+ which means it can handle PTZs. I need 8 ports for POE, I guess I need 1 port to run to the computer or router.

I found this bad boy. Has 8 Ports POE and I think they are POE+ and is gigabit. I think I found my poe switch http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-SG1008PE-8-Port-Giagbit-802-3at/dp/B00E6LID0S/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Wow, you are right it is not a switch. Back to square one on POE switches. I have to rethink if I really need a rack mounted POE switch, and you are right, I don't need Gigabit speed. Thanks again.

I completed phase 1 of my project. - Lay PVC 1 inch conduit for the Cat 5E cable - Run 5 cat 5 E cables through the conduit - Install keystone jacks on both ends ofthe 5 Cat 5e cables - Test with network cable tester All the above took me about 30 hours tocomplete...

    Checking In from Maryland

We measured wireless Ethernet speeds in one of my classes. Wireless has over 50% overhead (802.11 b,g and probably n). 802.11 g is rated at 54 Mbps, we could only get about 20 Mbps throughput with the computers 2-5 feet away from each other. The throughput will go down as the distance...

    Direct Burial cat5e cable connectors

Thanks for the reply. I stayed away from the gel filled cables for your above reasons. I'm still debating whether to use conduit or not. It is relatively cheap, so I may still use it.

    Direct Burial cat5e cable connectors

Thanks for the reply. I went with the RJ45 jack for solid cable, if it works, fine, if not I'll get some keystone jacks, from Nelly's. They got a pair of keystone jacks and 6" patch cord for about 4 bucks. But I bought the cable and connectors yesterday so they should be here next week.

    Direct Burial cat5e cable connectors

I'm going to run cat 5e direct burial cable to my future outside surveillance cameras. I understand that the direct burial cable is a little bit thicker than regular cat 5e cable. So the traditional rj-45 connector may not fit. Has anybody used direct burial cat 5e cable with regular rj-45...

First day on the job???? - Hikvision ds-2cd2032

Hi bombo, finally saw the video, that is the camera I want to get. What size lens is that 4, 6 or 12 mm?

I agree with you about running 24/7. I looked at a new PC system from Dell, and I would have probably spent over $800. Checked NVRs and found one (7608NI-SE 8P) at a website for about $400 (no hard drive) and found a 3 TB hd (WD purple drive) for about $160. But that is on hold, because of...

Parts, warranty but mainly with the NVRs & cameras - compatibility and interoperability. Seems like a lot of proprietary designs in the NVRs (this x brand camera won't work with this y brand NVR, or your y brand NVR will not work with y brand cameras 2 years down the road). Kind of reminds me...

Thanks for the info. Went to the Costco website, I did not see any stand alone NVRs for Swann, they were all systems with cameras.

    Hikvision USA vs. Hikvision Issues

I was going to buy Hikvision 3 MP cameras and possibly a Hikvision NVR in 1-2 months. That is all on hold.

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply. Initially 3 cameras, next year 1 more, and the next your a PTZ if prices come down. So I am looking at a max of 5. I'm not really interested in mobile apps. I kind of like the stability of the NVR over a Windows based system. My main concern is that HIKvison...

Semi-retired, trying to put a system together. Thought I had my cameras picked out (HIKVISION 2CD2032-I), but then saw a thread started by networkcamercritic on Hikvision USA vs Hikvision Issues. That was step 1 for me. Step 2 was getting a NVR, had that picked out (HIKvison DS7608NI-SE8) so...
