Newbie NAS question - Thanks in advance

You do it in your Windows services control panel. To get there, you should be able to: 1) Click the Start button, select Control Panel and then Administrative Tools, then Services. OR 2) Click the Start button, and in the text box type in "services.msc" without the quotes. That should...

Newbie NAS question - Thanks in advance

You said you reviewed it, but did you actually change the "Log On As:" credentials from the localsystem account to the user you login to your BI PC as? You should also restart the BI service once you do this.

Online storage calculator and RAID question

The only experience rebuilding a RAID was in my Synology NAS and it took around 12 hours per 5 TB drive and the entire system was "normal" at that point, and able to be used prior to being normal. Can't say that about a disk failure in RAID 0. The entire system will continue to run fine in...

Online storage calculator and RAID question

I really don't want the entire system to crap itself if a disk fails as in RAID 0. Speed, don't care...it's a naS(torage), not a local boot drive. When you said above: 4TB x 4 = 12Tb of Platters You still need to treat the disk individually in terms of the possibility of a URE. It's not a...

Online storage calculator and RAID question

Ok, just read the article. If the reason the RAID 5 array fails to rebuild in the event of a disk failure, is because an URE...how is the URE a function of the overall size of the volume and not a function of the individual disks? And, isn't the 10^-14 just a spec and not a guarantee? I just...

Online storage calculator and RAID question

Whats with all the hate toward RAID 5 anyway? Everybody seems to treat it as one would treat the plague. I use it at home with no problems and keep backups of everything I have just in case. I really don't like the idea of giving up 50% of my disk space for a RAID 6 or 1 solution. If its...

Default Blue Iris web interface discussion

The one thing that I like about the original interface over UI2 is I like smooth video playback. When I use UI2, it seems (probably because it is) that the display is just a series of jpeg images running around 3 fps. I have my cameras set to 20 fps because I like the smooth playback and the...

    4.3.1 - April 6, 2016

The new playback features are very nice! I love the ability to skip dead air time so while you are watching you are just seeing motion from anyone of the cameras instead of having to jump to the next alert. Edit: no issues yet.

Me too. Looking to buy a DS-2CD2542FWD-IS.

Choppy vs Smooth Video -- bvr vs MP4

No problem. I'll give it a try. Did this fix your choppiness in your .bvr files as well?

    China tried to login

Good lord. I give up. Just trying to help you @ruppmeister. I figured you didn't know that you could setup your server that way and connect to it. I didn't know you were intentionally trying to make things difficult for yourself. My bad. And @nayr...Really not necessary to respond that...

    China tried to login

How do you think something like a remotely controlled thermostat works then? You have to have the ability to change settings on it from outside your home network. You don't connect directly to it, yet you can change the settings on it remotely through a remote server you login to. What device...

    China tried to login

I said I don't know what port it opens for certain. Probably doesn't matter. Yes, it will work. I don't have to manually open any ports on my router and plex.tv works just fine. My Plex server is a client that establishes a connection to a remote server. Then, through plex.tv I login to...

    China tried to login

Seriously, I know that. What I am telling you is your Plex Server opens them, NOT you. And plex.tv knows which ones those are. You don't need to know or care. It may be 32400, or a different one(s). Point is, you don't have to forward them manually. What I am telling you, is you DO NOT...

    China tried to login

Yes, I do have Plex. The way that it's supposed to work is your Plex server connects to the main Plex site with your account credentials. Then, you go to www.plex.tv and login there. The system will see that your home server is connected to the main Plex system (which you just logged into)...

    China tried to login

I know you didn't see my message yet (posted at the same time), but this issue will be solved by logging your kids devices into your Plex account. No VPN needed.

    China tried to login

If you want to access your Plex server from outside your home network, all you have to do is sign up for a free account. Then once you login to www.plex.tv and your server is configured to connect to the main Plex server, you should be able to see all of your content. I believe this would be...

I upgraded to the latest and came to that same conclusion as well.

Choppy vs Smooth Video -- bvr vs MP4

Well, that's good news! Your bit rate of 12288 Kbps is really high...mine is only at 4000 Kbps. Have you tried to reduce that and see if the stuttering is at least less than it is now? Maybe if decoding is the issue, the less data to decode would be better.

    Just a Blue Iris FYI

I, like most of us here update my BI whenever it prompts me to do so. I also use Internet Explorer to remotely view video when I am away from home. I just noticed yesterday (apparently I don't pay close attention), the link on the webpage that says "Install the ActiveX [4.0.0.4]". I do use...

Choppy vs Smooth Video -- bvr vs MP4

You're not alone beepsilver. I just looked at your .bvr file and that is exactly what mine does. Every once in a while it seems to get stuck for a very short period of time. I had another issue where I was told I should uncheck the "use RTSP/stream timecode" checkbox and that seemed to fix my...

    Recording on alerts issue

I think that other member was me!! Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about knightsfield. The alert that is generated looks like a motion alert (it even shows a duration of the motion, right?), but it is just a still image. As soon as I removed the continuous record version of the...

What would cause BI to do this?

So far my cameras have been performing very well. Unchecking the Use RTSP stream timecode checkbox seems to have helped.

What would cause BI to do this?

Lots of good stuff in there Mike! I'll address my situation here. I have 4 cameras, all the same, HikVision ds-2cd3332-i running at 20 FPS and 4000 kbps, POE so all 4 wired. Pretty simple. I don't use object detection and have cancel shadows turned off just to eliminate those functions from...

What would cause BI to do this?

So far viewing a live feed from my cameras over the Internet seems to give a smoother video feed than what Blue Iris records...My BI video seems to "jerk" every 1 second or so.
  29. R

What would cause BI to do this?

So you looked at it and thought it was choppy as well? I'll have to take a closer look at the web interface of the camera and see if it's choppy, or smoother.

What would cause BI to do this?

All 4 of my cameras have done this same type of thing, so it's not just one camera. I use a DLink 24 port POE switch (12 POE, 12 Non Poe) and it's brand new. I was using a TP Link 8 port POE switch and the same thing would happen. I have never had BI complain about a lost signal or anything...
