    Moving to a new machine

I am looking to trial a move to a new machine but I am concerned that when i have imported the registry settings that clips will be deleted or moved etc because. Is there a way to start BI to make sure all is working okay but prevent it from moving and or deleting files?

But looking at latest specs, they seem to be quite old now?

so as an example and looking at an i3-2120 vs an i5-2400, are these comparable in terms of age and performance?

Thanks, so what is the deciding factor which makes it better or worse? Presumably the numbers after it and the application the machine is running?

I have asked for the exact spec but currently waiting for a response. Is an i7 better than an i5 though, for example?

I have been looking at another PC which i would look to use instead of the Windows 2011 Server that BI is currently installed on. The spec of this PC is: Dell Optiplex i7 processor 16gb RAM 2TB HD Windows 10 Home. What are your thoughts on this, please? Presumably, i can upgrade from Home to Pro?

In BI they were set to 20 but I have reduced this down in the camera to 12. Today, I have had installed another camera and the poor processor is running around 99%. I have reduced the bit rate but my processor does not support Quick Sync. I don't have direct to disk enabled.

I have been running BI for nearly three years but in the last couple of weeks I've updated some of the external Foscam cameras to Hikvision. I now have the following cameras in use: 3 x Hikvision DS-2CD2355FWD-I 2 x Foscam F189 4 x Tenvis My server spec is: Operating System Windows Small...

I am afraid there is no way that one month would be adequate for my needs. I have experienced issues whereby something has happened with a tradesman and regrettably, footage has identified the actual sequence of events. Imagine shelling out all that money on a system only to find that what you...

It is a multi acre site and the biggest issue is sunlight and leaves in the summer months - this creates a lot of recordings. And spiders present issues too at night times, lot's of recordings there as well. Retention time, from memory is around 22 months.

All the cameras in use are required and each cover differing aspects of the site. I'd not thought about lowering the bitrate, so I'll look to get this sorted and I can confirm that all cameras are set to use motion detection. As regards h.265, that is a completely new one to me and again, will...

It all comes to down to cost at the end of the day and if I can stave off purchasing new hardware, that's the option I go for. The installation is for residential. If I go to Camera Properties > Record then I have the combine or cut selection ticked. Is this what you mean?

There is currently 20tb of storage data. To add further rack mounted storage is going to cost around the 3k mark - do you agree? Can you elaborate on the combine and cut, please?

In response to your question about Micro Management, please consider this: This morning, I have spent 90 minutes trawling through clips to determine those which aren't needed and those which should be kept - i tend to do this by looking at those which are largest and oldest. By doing this, I...

I was reading another topic about packets from cameras being sent back to Chinese servers which presumably means that they can gain access to our networks. What is the best way to check to see if this is happening?

    Alerts Mixed Up With Clips

So with a high res photo, this image is stored in an alerts folder - correct? You then say the low res is stored in the DB but is this actually stored as an image or as a link to part of a clip? Thanks for this and I'll send a picture shortly. Can you advise what you mean by alerts stored in the DB? Are you saying that there shouldn't be any files in the alerts folder?
