    Blue Iris Video Tutorials

Thank you so much for the time you have taken to put the videos together. I've used BI for a couple of years but the learning curve has been steep for me. I've watched most of the videos several times, and look forward to any others you may be producing. My only complaint on BI is the...

Cam review sites? / New cam advice?

OK but what measurement does the fraction "1/2.8" represent? Is the image sensor 2.8" in diameter? Again, why expressed as a fraction?

Cam review sites? / New cam advice?

I assume a 1/2.8" lenses means that the f number = f2.8. If so, why is it just not stated that way like on DLSR camera lens? Why as fraction?

Suggestions on best site to get BI computer?

I'm running a 4th gen i7 with 6 cameras and having no problems. CPU usage runs about 16%. However if I was buying today I'd definitely buy a later generation CPU.

    CPU upgrade question

I am currently running 6 cameras with Blue Iris on an Intel i7-4790 3.6ghz system. Plans are to add another 2 to 3 cameras to my system. I have a i5-7600 3.5ghz processor that I was going to use to build a new office machine. Would I see any benefit to using the newer 7th gen i5 on my camera...

    HD safe maximum capacity

Got it........just made changes leaving 50gb free.

    HD safe maximum capacity

OK so I guess I specify the limit under each folder in "Clips and Archiving". Is the "limit size" in GB's for the entire folder i.e. stored, or is this specifying the clip size?

    HD safe maximum capacity

OK, thanks. Out of curiosity why is it necessary to even keep 50gb free? I can understand leaving some small amount of room at the end, but if there is even 1gb there what occurs?

    HD safe maximum capacity

I have read that writing a hard drive to full capacity is not advised. This apparently causes slower read speeds, but I'm not concerned about this on my Blue Iris storage drive. So is there any mechanical issues with filling up a HD, or loss of data?

    Best pricing on BI computer

No, they don't. Past threads have nothing to do with current pricing. Prices change everyday. Deals are here, then they are gone. I'm talking about a thread that updates with current good deals on BI appropriate computers.

    Best pricing on BI computer

There are many threads constantly asking where one can find the best price for a computer to run Blue Iris on. I frequently see recommendations for Dell or HP computers at good prices in the $300 to $400 range. Personally, I can never seem to find these "deals". How about a permanent (sticky)...

    Deal on poe switch!!!!

Why would direct run to router from each switch be better than just daisy chaining switch # 1 into switch # 2 then running a cable to router?

    VPN help

I though the purpose of a VPN was to prevent having to forward ports and create a security risk??? You can see I know little or nothing about this subject. Regarding the NAS for cameras, I was speaking of storage for the camera PC. I run BI and was thinking I could put my WD Purple in the NAS...

    VPN help

This is interesting. So a NAS such as these are not dependent on the router to be able to run a VPN? The cost is not that much more than a good router, and if I'm thinking correctly, I could move the hard drive out of my camera server computer and have it in a remote location away from the...

    VPN help

Yeah, I think I'm wasting my time going any other route other than router based. Well, I'm not in any big hurry to take on this project as I'd like to get my camera system perfected first. And yes, I'm familiar with the concept of no-ip and will use.

    VPN help

I just bought a new router a couple of months ago and don't want to buy another right now. I'm running Win 10 Pro and have the option as per your directions called "add a VPN connection". What are the pros and cons of using it vs. at the router level? Any other software solutions? When I put...

    VPN help

I have read the VPN Primer but I'm still confused. My router does not have VPN server included, and I can't find WRT firmware that it will support. That leaves me with trying to setup a VPN on my dedicated Win 10 camera server. Is this possible and will it provide a secure system? Can anyone...

    CPU usage

Well, right now BI console is showing 18% with lots of fluctuations. Task manager Performance is showing CPU at 10%. TM Processes is showing 9% overall and BI at 8.7%. TM's Details is has BI fluctuating from 12 to 21%. I'm running 6 cameras so I'm not complaining, but I can't find any other...

    CPU usage

Thanks to Direct to Disk recording and hardware acceleration I've got my CPU usage down to a very low number. Question is why am I seeing 20% in BI console and 10% in Task Manager? Also, I saw a post stating increased CPU usage after upgrade to ver. 4.5.0.0. I actually saw a decrease.
