    Can POE Cables Go Underground?

You may also take a look at an Arduino solution. They claim that it can reach 20 miles: http://www.digikey.com/en/articles/techzone/2013/feb/building-an-arduino-wireless-gateway http://www.lairdtech.com/brandworld/library/Product%20Brief%20-%20AC4490.pdf

Anything at all to be done about surges from lightning?

I just ordered a couple of these cheap protectors: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221463578455 I want to take a look at them and see if I can use them. It looks as if they use two gas tubes. What are the other components? Zener diodes? Maybe they do not protect the POE lines, but if one uses separate...

Anything at all to be done about surges from lightning?

I am using this UPS: http://www.amazon.co.uk/APC-Back-UPS-CS-500-Connector/dp/B0002AFG2A/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1459360201&sr=1-1&keywords=cs500+ups I am quite happy with it, it's cheap, it can send an e-mail, when there is a blackout, and it can turn off the computer gracefully...

    Can POE Cables Go Underground?

Thanks, this one looks interesting for smaller systems: http://www.l-com.com/surge-protector-indoor-8-port-med-power-10-100-base-t-cat5-lightning-surge-protector Do you have any experience with the throughput? Will they reduce the bandwidth?

Anything at all to be done about surges from lightning?

Good points, Benjamin. Then you use the same mains wiring principles with five conductors in the US as we have here in Sweden. My worry is not so much that the lightning actually jumps through the insulation into the Ethernet cable from other installations or a direct hit. If that happens...

Anything at all to be done about surges from lightning?

I find all this quite confusing and apologize for writing a somewhat lengthy post. I do not know how it is in other countries but for the mains power, we have here in Sweden five conductors: Phase L Phase M Phase N Zero Protection ground I assume that this is pretty much standard everywhere...

    Can POE Cables Go Underground?

nayr, this unit looks really fine but I am a little uncertain about grounding. It requires connection to a stable ground. A big part of my system has no ground. The 12 V supply is floating and so is the switch, the router, the IP phone adapter, the fiber modem. I am uncertain about the computer...

    Can POE Cables Go Underground?

I am also very interested in finding lightning arrestors that are affordable. I run two Ethernet cables in a conduit to another building some120 ft away and I have had an old system seriously damaged by a lightning stroke. All the equipment is running on an APC UPS that handles surges on the...

What IR illuminator would be best?

I have bought three of them. Two ran hot and stopped working after 30 minutes but one has worked well for six months and I am happy with it.

Choppy video with the IE active X

Hi again, here is yet another update, maybe the last because the remote videos are now reasonably smooth. After having noted that I got choppy videos when running a "remote" IE with active x on the very same computer as the BI computer, I figured that there were essentially two possible error...

IP and PoE bullet camera for scenery

The usual 1080p IP cams should be fine. The main issue could be the lens. You may want to get a more expensive lens with little image distortion (barrel etc), and then you probably need to go to cameras with CS mount and not the 12 mm lens mounts the inexpensive cameras have.

Choppy video with the IE active X

Hi folks, sorry for being back again so soon. I haven't solved the problem but I have made some tests and I am very interested in getting comments from the gurus here. I installed the Chromecast extension on the BI computer and tried to stream the mp4 clips recorded by BI to my TV using the...

Choppy video with the IE active X

nayr, can you think of any other tests that could give a hint? For instance, if I could set up a third-party web server and see whether that one works? Or do some other streaming tests? Or is it possible to run the BI web server without BI?

Choppy video with the IE active X

Here is a quick update in case anybody comes up with a solution. I am still working on the problem. Fenderman kindly hooked up one of his remote active x computers (that works fine on his systems) to my web server and the videos were choppy. I therefore now believe that the problem is on the BI...

Choppy video with the IE active X

I have made some experiments on the server side, for instance changing the frame rate of the recording and I did not see any effect on the result. I have also checked whether other programs on the BI computer eat up bandwidth and that is not the case. I can instead view clips "remotely" using...

Choppy video with the IE active X

I do not get smooth videos while on the WAN as Ruppmeister does. I see the same issue when connecting the remote pc to the LAN and the WAN. I now took a completely different "remote" pc running Win7 and IE11 (again on the same LAN as the BI pc) and I see exactly the same problem. It seems to...

Choppy video with the IE active X

I am running IE 11 but I believe that I had the same choppy videos, when I was back at IE 10. For a while I thought that the problem was bandwidth related but that is obviously not the case. What I meant by the Netflix analogy is that you really do not need much bandwidth to get smooth videos in...

Choppy video with the IE active X

I am running BI 4.2.7.1 on the BI machine and I have now also upgraded the active x to the latest version 4.0.0.4. The problem still remains. Apparently Ruppmeister has the same problem. It would be good to hear from others to know whether they see choppy videos or not on a remote system running...

Choppy video with the IE active X

I tried to run without motion boxes and, in fact, it did not improve the situation. So the theory that they are causing the problem does not hold. See video below taken from a "remote" pc on the same LAN as the BI pc. I wonder whether something strange goes on in the BI web server? How can it be...

Choppy video with the IE active X

Hi again guys, Regarding bp2008's proposal to adjust the encoder profiles, I had in fact done that with no result. Fenderman proposes to post a video example, so I do that below. I wanted to make sure not to load the receiving computer with the task of encoding the new video, so I simply made...

OK, let me rephrase it: Does everybody else see smooth video clips when using the active x with Internet Explorer at another location?

Choppy video with the IE active X

Hi All, I have a problem with choppy video and hope for some advice. I am running BI ver 4.2.7.1 on a dedicated Windows 7 computer with an i7-4790S processor at 3.2 GHz. I have four IP cams and I record clips on motion only. I monitor BI from a remote site using the Active X plugin for Internet...

    Periodic reboot?

I am running BI on Win7 on an i7 computer. It's super stable, it hasn't hung at all during the first months that it has been up and running. Anyway, I think that it would be prudent to reboot, say, every week. I have looked in the BI manual and in the forum, but haven't found a clever way to do...

False motion trigger during day/night transitions

I have a BI setup with three outdoor cameras that switch to IR in the evening and back to visible in the morning. Trouble is that the transition during switch-over between day and night triggers the alerts for two of the cameras (but strange enough not for the third camera), so I get false...

Web client does not show clips

Hi, I am new here. I have installed BI on an i7 computer and so far have three IP cameras connected. BI is a wonderful piece of software but I had to do some fiddling to learn of all the details and get it up and running. No problems with CPU load. I still have an issue though. The clips are...
