Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

Yes, I understand. I think currently my cam is set to plain H.264 - I am not sure what benefit H.264H brings?

    Day/Night Switch on Dahua DH-IPC-HDW1530T-S6

I think it might have actually worked. I modified the shutter, as mentioned, whilst it was still in color / day mode. I know it didn't immediately start using this shutter, as the image was still perfectly bright, even though it was getting a bit dim outside. Later, I checked again, and the...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

Very nice. You have a better angle of the street itself (of course the main purpose of my cam is people entering my driveway, but it's nice to capture them walking past too), and are possibly getting slightly better face captures. What is the best way to know if you are 'running out' of bitrate...

Fear not - they are fully isolated, VLAN in use, decent firewall, no external port forwarding or other similar horrors!

    EmpireTech web interface questions.

Annoyingly, I have just found that enabling HTTPS eventually breaks ONVIF access from my Hikvision NVR, which otherwise works very well. I have tried changing the ONVIF port to 443 in the Hikvision NVR, but this didn't help. So in an effort to get the camera back online, I had to disable HTTPS...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

The distance is about 60ft to those targets, plus a bit to account for the height of the camera (2nd floor soffit). So not too bad considering camera position. Mainly the onboard IR. The only additional light at in that example would be: IR from a small overview turret, but this is over 80ft...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

Here are some folk at 1AM inspecting an item. Settings: Still a bit of face blur, not sure if this is motion-induced or likely just resolution (lack of, relatively speaking) blur. Anyway, I have since sped up the night shutter to 6ms, as there still seems to be enough light.

    Day/Night Switch on Dahua DH-IPC-HDW1530T-S6

That sounds like a nice idea. Not sure if its worth the effort in this situation, but interesting to consider. Assume you mean a PC or server needs to be able to access the cameras? This is sometimes possible even when using the NVR PoE ports, with a bit of sneaky networking - see my last post...

    Day/Night Switch on Dahua DH-IPC-HDW1530T-S6

I have set the Night shutter to 1/10,000, or something similarly ridiculous, and left the Profile Management mode on this setting: I will wait to see what happens when it gets a bit darker and the cam switches to Night mode / b&w.

Oh, I see what you mean. I will test it to verify 100% on this specific camera.

Hik NVR struggling to record RTSP streams reliably from certain cameras

In my previous post I outlined how the problem seems to go away if the cameras are connected directly to the Hikvision DVR using ONVIF, rather than Hik NVR -> plain RTSP -> SPRO NVR -> ONVIF -> Camera. So my workaround is to create another interface on my firewall (at remote site), and patch...

    Day/Night Switch on Dahua DH-IPC-HDW1530T-S6

No big deal, except if there are multiple cameras, in which case it becomes slightly annoying. Yes - this is the trouble. It is not my camera, rather part of a system I inherited at a site I manage, which must have been installed by a 6-year-old! Odd mix of cameras, I noticed at least 1 is...

    Day/Night Switch on Dahua DH-IPC-HDW1530T-S6

Anyone have experience with the DH-IPC-HDW1530T-S6? I am trying to configure separate settings (mainly shutter and gain) for Day & Night, however I am having some difficulty. This is the web UI: You can see there are 3 profiles to choose. What I want to do is configure my settings for Day...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

Here are some night captures showing various specimens walking past on the path. This was the 20th/21st (took a while to process the video), so I am unsure exactly what settings it was running - probably very similar to what I showed a few posts back. I still have to try and tweak the focus at...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

True - I guess there are a huge number of variables here. I will try not get too hung up on the plates, considering this isn't even the purpose of the camera. On the gain point - does decreasing the gain mean the camera can actually use a slower shutter than specified in the Manual Shutter...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

This is a IPC-B54IR-Z4E-S3, ordered direct from Andy. Reiteration to avoid confusion:): This camera is not intended for plate capture. This camera is intended to capture people / things entering or exiting the gateway, as well as perhaps pedestrians passing on the pavement as a bonus. In...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

Of course! I'm forgetting the basics of cameras! I would usually call this 'aperture', so didn't immediate recognize the term. Makes sense. I will try and set this up when I have time to play with it. I can see why this is useful - I will continue to use Day/Night mode for now, as I don't have...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

Thanks for the suggestions - I will give these a go. I am assuming I am correct on my choice of Working Mode then? Should I be using Manual Focus for my chosen zoom level? Currently I think I have it on automatic. Finally, since everything seems to be a balancing act, what is the downside to...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

First look at performance at night. Running the following settings: And its doing pretty reasonable. Here are a couple of taxi's passing in the middle of the night: The motion blur is worse than daytime, as seen by the blur on the vehicles and their plates - however, the main interest of...

Good grief, I had no idea there was a 2nd page to the 'Home' menu! The two dots on the bottom were nicely obscured by the 'Please install plugin' prompt, making it even less obvious! Thanks for pointing that out, I will now explore the Security menu...

    EmpireTech web interface questions.

Thanks @wittaj. Cams properly setup on their own VLAN, strict hardware firewall between the camera LAN and everything else (internet and other local resources). HTTPS is not for security, I just like to have it, and for the sake of slapping the cert of the Hikvision, it was worth it to get rid...

Low-light struggles / improving image quality.

Been dialing in a bit for day at least, started off following this advice from earlier in this thread: This is doing pretty well - running full zoom, it can even just about get some plates from the vehicles going past on the street! Yes, the angle is terrible, and no, this cam is NOT intended...

    EmpireTech web interface questions.

I just installed my first EmpireTech camera, a B54IR-Z4E-S3. Below are a couple of questions regarding the web interface, which I am obviously still familiarizing with. 1. How do I (or can I?) install a HTTPS TLS certificate into the camera? On Hikvision's which are I am slightly more familiar...

Connecting to 2nvrs together through port forwarding on separate networks

WG is good. Assume this is between two firewalls / routers, since you state "peer to peer" VPN? What routers are you using? Have you tried the method I mentioned earlier?
