Thanks for confirming that for me, that is what I took from the earlier discussion about this. With Andy's explanation above, I was wondering also about the "official" recommendation.
@lostnewby, the folks here are great about sharing their knowledge and experience with those in need. I do encourage you to be brave and proactive about helping yourself too. It will speed up the learning curve. I know because this is all new to me. Whatever you have questions about, do searches...
I am not a conclusion jumper, by any means. I was simply posting an acknowledgement of the efforts that have been made to evaluate and correct the situation. I understand that we are not at the end of the road. :)
I am so glad to see positive things here about Andy's current test firmware. Thanks as always, to members for taking the time to evaluate and post their findings, especially bigredfish. I especially appreciate his consistent approach of sharing the video and still imagery of scenarios and...
If they were mine and I had a problem with UV I might try to shield the cams with some form of a shield, an awning or at least a sheet of tinted translucent or transparent material of whatever sort. But if the problem is heat, the former is all I would offer.
I still REALLY want these cams to work out. I'm just concerned for my desire to make good buying decisions and to make those decisions already! Ok, I'll settle down now.
Oh, wait, I just reread both posts. "chipset/sensor" caught my attention. If my understanding is correct, this is a very significant change with varying possibilities, better or worse. Interesting.
Thank you, both. How much time passed before these chipset changes occurred in the past? I'm trying to get a sense of Dahua history in this area that may help me with my understanding of how these things have worked and may work in the future.
If these models are updated in the future, what are typical changes that may be applied? For instance, when 5442/541R received "S2", "S3" suffixes, what changes were made? I assume the changes were made to the hardware, or am I wrong?
Ah! I'm using a Tendelux DI10 illuminator that is also slow to react to the ambient light, so it turns on early and off late too. This may affect the camera's day/night function. I hadn't thought of this possibility.
Copy that.
I'm still a newbie and I still have hope. I want my 54PRO to succeed and lead the way to its siblings for me. Come on Dahua - Daddy needs new eyes!
My 54PRO-ZE has always been odd about the day/night timing. It switches to night around an hour before and to day around an hour after the lighting conditions seem sufficient to to trigger the function. My other cheapie cams agree with me and make the change accordingly.
I just stuck a 541R-AS...
Sorry to say, but I tend to agree at this point. Of course, what do I know... I'm almost at the point with my learnin' here where I can almost start brickin' stuff.
