T54PRO-ZE Field-of-View (and change in aperture/exposure) as focal length changes

A while back, I read this post from @Perimeter ... so I setup a T54PRO-ZE 10' away from my garage along with some various "measurement props" and then took a dozen snapshots as I zoomed from 0 to the maximum of 2426 - recording the zoom/focus numbers. I then pulled those images into Photoshop...

THIS is something I've wondered about. I.e. what matters it the SIZE of the pixels. So if one 1/2.8" sensor has 5MP and another (same size) 1/2.8" sensor has 2MP, then the pixel size of the 2MP sensor is BIGGER and (assuming similar technology/etc.), you'd expect the 2MP to do better (at least...

Great stuff @tmxv4128 ... can I recommend next time you do this, put up a visual chart to help assess acuity - an example attached.

I tried the 10/31 (aka 10/15) release and pretty sure that it does NOT include the image improvements as seen in the 10/22 & 10/28 releases - mostly just LED light improvements. I went back to the 10/28 release.

It's not surprising that the Skull Brothers are out of focus. I wrote earlier that I'm running 100 iris to minimize shutter speed and gain ... and since this is a "scene" shot with the camera at fairly wide-angle with the middle of the driveway being ~50' away, most everything should be...

It appears to be doing a really good job with a broad dynamic range. You might consider the newer firmware as it seemed to do better with highlights/shadows ... plus I found HLC=1 seemed to make a difference. P.S. You've got some good coverage ... and appreciate the comedy with "guitar-man" ;-)

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

It wasn't clear @Sixto what your settings were for the first testing ... so I'm just suggesting you "push" the camera to see if it's even a possible (at full iris and "reasonable" gain) to get up the shutter speed up to a reasonable value to capture motion - probably at least 1/50s. If so...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

GREAT writeup @Sixto and sounds to me like I would like YOU to come over to setup my cameras! ;-) It sounds like you have some decent light on the side and backyard ... so you might try manual settings, iris=100 (of course), and crank the gain ... to see what shutter speed you can get. For...

So I decided to push my FW0827 camera to 1022 (would have gone directly to 1028 since that is running great ... but this way I can compare those two) ... and took a snapshot just before/after the upgrade ... so while the sun moved a bit, that's about as close of a direct comparison as I can do.

Looking forward to you review @tmxv4128 I'm guessing you blurred out the street name and license plates(?) ... but does that red fence have vertical slats all the way around, because it looks a bit mushy. Also, looks a bit overexposed in spots (that camper is pretty solid white) ... so maybe...

Well that's a big fat DUH on my part - thanks @JDreaming for pointing this out as I blurred out the serial number, but didn't do the QR code - fixed.

Here's a GIF (with attached PNG's direct from the camera) showing the 0827 versus 1028 firmware. Not sure it's a very good comparison, especially with the "Skull Brothers" there ... but since they are so close to the camera's, the vertical offset is magnified! ;-) I really like the how the...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Yes, the "dimpling" in the driveway is REAL ... ditto the "speckling" in the road. This is an area where the image processing of the T54PRO seems to "smear" it more than the 5442-S3 ... BUT ... I really need to do a comparison with the latest T54 firmware ... probably in a couple of weeks when...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

I asked a while back from upgrading from the 0827FW to 1022FW that there was a new item under Maintenance Center->System Info->Device Info called "Cloud Service Version" After applying the 1028FW, I went "looking around" at the various menu's and found out what this changed. Specifically under...

Yea, I think it looks a bit HDR'ish because there's a LOT of dynamic range ... plus as I'm sure you know from photography @CamCrazy, sharpness is really tricky on foliage because it can "overprocess it" Image below is with the sharpness turned down from 75 to the (default) 50.

So this morning, we have an image taken from a T54PRO-ZE using some brand-spanking new 1028 Firmware that @EMPIRETECANDY just sent me - thanks! The upgrade was seamless (had to do by file rather than by folder ... but just did one at a time and it reboots after each) and below are the version...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Yea, I noticed that also @CamCrazy and was like WTF is going on?!? Sharpening is just about the LAST thing I do when processing images ... but maybe that's not the case here and when you enable sharpening, it reduce the noise reduction (even though I have this turned totally off) that is...

To minimize shutter speed and gain ... and since this is a "scene" shot with the camera at fairly wide-angle (zoom 550 - about 85 degrees horizontal - testing data on that coming soon!) with the middle of the driveway being ~50' away, most everything should be (reasonably) within the...

Just to toss out a few more pics, here's the PNG's from the "Twin T54's" running. The first set of three are with 0827FW (see lower left) and the others are 1022FW. Camera settings are identical with 5msec shutter, 100 iris, 0 gain, and 0 NR. The first image in each set (see the filename) is...

Yea, the picture above with Sharpening=ZERO is with ZERO gain and ZERO NR. If I pull that into Photoshop, "Smart Sharpen" cleans it up quite a bit ... but I was pretty surprised how blurry that looked ... so that's why I wonder if that's the "raw" image (as much as you can get an unprocessed...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

I think part of what you are seeing in sharpness in those two areas (especially the fir tree on the right) is the slight difference in angle. When I first got the T54PRO-ZE, I had it mounted in the lower spot below the 5442-S3 ... and saw difference like that. But when I moved it to the higher...

Here's a high Noon comparison of 0827 versus 1022 ... similar observations as before. At this point, I would be comfortable (and WANT!) to push FW1022 ... but I'll hold off for a bit longer in case anyone has any specific comparisons they'd like me to do.

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Here's some morning pictures comparing the 0827 and 1022 firmware. Settings are identical at 5msc shutter, 100 iris, 0 gain, ZERO NR, Auto WB. Note there is a little more "speckling/dimpling" in the street/driveway with the 1022 firmware (bit more smearing in the 0827) ... which is "good"...

So here's the NIGHT comparison of Firmware 0827 & 1022 on the T54PRO-ZE at zoom level 550 - that scale goes from 0-2426. First, this is NOT A "FAIR" SITUATION for the camera ... since the settings are 80msec shutter, 100 iris, 65 gain, 50 3D NR, and 50 2DNR. So clearly the light level is waayyy...

T54PRO-ZE wiring harness - lots of wires - believe 12V power OUT is new (and probably on other 2025 cams)

To wrap up this thread, here's what I ended up doing with the T54PRO-ZE wire bundle. Basically the tape all of the "electrical" ends, and then tape the skinny wires together ... plus even the labels ... since all of that just gets "caught" when you are trying to wrap it up inside the wall mount...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Nice spot! Yea, normally, I'd wedge some foam (with tape on the inside) to close that off (although it's not like there aren't opening from where the turret rotates) but since this is a temporary install, I just stuffed a torn-off-cloth in there. BTW, the PFB2203's DO have the plastic filler...

Here's a first pictures from the "Twin T54's" (LOL that sounds like the name of a porn star! ;-) from mid-afternoon - the firmware version is in the lower left. So trying to compare the 0827FW versus 1022FW with the camera's located several feet apart was challenging, I went ahead and removed the 5442-S3 that I had mounted against the wall ... so once the T54PRO firmware has gelled, maybe I'll put the 5442-S3 back up and we can compare to that. The...
