    Quick Refurb Question

How many drives are you needing? The HP Compaq SFF computers that I use can hold (2) 3.5 inch drives. I believe @fenderman uses Dell Optiplex and I think someone said they can hold (3) 3.5 inch drives. I have had very good luck buying off-lease and refurbished HP compaq's on ebay.

Applied BI update, no signal on any of our cameras

Most tech businesses here in my area charge $60/hour for basic troubleshooting (password help, virus cleaning, data recovery ect..) and you have to go to them. Anything network/IT related is $100-125/ hour for a site visit. People have to make money too, cant feed the family on free advise and...

What is a PIR Motion Sensor: PIR IC Working, Features and Applications This particular article says " PIR sensor detects a human being moving around within approximately 10m (32ft) from the sensor. This is an average value, as the actual detection range is between 5m (16ft) and 12m (39ft).

Hah thanks for the suggestion :) The 30ft max range might be off a little but from my experience with devices around my house (my motion lights for example) don't have a huge range on them. When I had an indoor security system with a motion detector it didn't have a super long range on it...

Of course IR motion detectors do have a limited range of reliability typically maxing out at 30ft. I am probably going to buy something like this: http://a.co/d/fkLFTty and experiment around on since it has digital out

I actual motion detector that uses IR is MUCH more accurate. It monitors for heat instead of regular motion. BI motion detector monitors the change in color to trigger which is very prone to false alarms from trees and shadows. With an IR motion detector it will not trigger from shadows or trees.

Thanks for sharing! I think my next project I am going to work on is using another raspberry pi to setup a security system. I already have reed switch style sensors on each of my doors and wires running into my closet. I checked the wiring and they are all good. I have started playing around...

Here is my BI setup with 30 Hikvision cams

I'd like to chime in: I mainly use i5-3470 or a slightly better i5-3570 on my system builds. I buy these processors for the relatively low cost and lots of availability in the HP Compaq computers. On my home setup I run a i5-3570 I am running 8 cameras: 390MP/sec and my CPU usage hovers at...

You can also use the raspberry pi to send web command to the blue iris machine to do things like trigger the camera or change the ptz preset:

    Home alarm output to BlueIris

Blue Iris does support single byte I/O devices such as an Arduino or Raspberry Pi. Blue Iris also supports the use of SeaLevel and MQTT (neither of which I am familiar with) I have been planning on tinkering with this very same idea. I have been toying with the idea of a home security system...

Blue Iris Auto Start Task Scheduler XML file

It's just a practice of mine to reboot computer and devices (like my phone) every day or two. I feel it gives the device a 'refresh' and help to eliminate any potential memory leak problems.

OMG You read my mind on this! I actually was going to post something on this subject a couple days ago! I was looking for a way to automatically load the blue iris GUI in the event of a restart. All my machines reboot every 2 days (using task scheduler and the "Shutdown" command with the "-r"...

Ehh... not a slot for a 3rd drive but you could "make it work" with a small SSD.

I'd like to add in here I purchase HP Compaq SSF PCs for my installs. They are capable of holding (2) 3.5" drives. Can scoop up refurbished ones on Ebay with OS and i5-3570 which is capable of running at least (8) 4mp cameras @ 15fps for around $130-150 Can find them with 3rd gen i7's for...
