    Dahua T5442TM-AS quick review

@bigredfish @DavidR1 I've edited the post. I messed up with webpage settings. My browser forced me to European version of the page, which I didn't notice. For over a month I thought they were deleted. I didn't see also any new products :banghead: @DavidR1 Thank you for additional info...

    Dahua T5442TM-AS quick review

Hi folks. I bought a set of T5442TM-ASs from Andy, so here is a quick review of this model. This camera is identical to T5442TM-AS-LED, which I reviewed here some time ago. The only difference is that this one owns infrared LEDs instead of white light LEDs, and has an ICR (removable IR filter)...

    smart IR issue explained

Smart IR is not controlling gain in this case. It's the gain itself. In first example your face got washed out, because gain went down from 50 to 0 and the camera didn't have chance to go any lower. Try this: turn off smart IR - set a fixed value like 100% for IR, set exposure to 0-16ms (the...

    smart IR issue explained

Ok, so it works. But in my opinion, it's still exposure modification, even when everything is locked. In the last example from the backyard, notice illuminated bushes in far background. When you appear in the image these bushes also get darker. If it was just IR reaction, these bushes would stay...

    smart IR issue explained

@bigredfish I was looking for such description before posting the thread. So Dahua is claiming it should work. Can you please set one of your analog cameras to 1/30s, lock gain to one value, turn off any backlight functions, set SmartIR sensitivity to 10 and than provide a video example? I'm...

    smart IR issue explained

From your examples it looks like it's actually the exposure reaction, not smartIR. If you have locked these cameras at 1/30s it might be the gain changing. Notice how background lights dim when somebody appears. If it was just smartIR, the lights wouldn't change its brightness.

    smart IR issue explained

I decided to write this thread, as there is more and more rumor about Smart IR function on the forum, and it seems to me that most users have a false vision of how it should work and what’s its main porpoise. Unfortunately even such services as IPVM suggest in some of its reviews, that smartIR...

I was right all along, Dahua IPC-HDW4831EM-ASE - Don't follow the 4K Hype

Purple fringing is an optical flaw of a lens. It has nothing to do with video specs.

    What causes these ghost images?

It's a noise reduction ghosting. Nothing else. If you turn it off, ghosting will disappear. Try to lower it by half.

    Review-OEM 4mp AI Cam IPC-T5442TM-AS Starlight+

Both files are identical. I watched them frame by frame. No duplicated frames. Both are 30fps. I even uploaded your DAV to my youtube. It works fine.

    Review-OEM 4mp AI Cam IPC-T5442TM-AS Starlight+

In case of IP camera I don't think there is any difference between PAL and NTSC other than available framerates. It it important in case of analog systems. As for frame rate, 25fps vs 30fps is not a big difference. You will not loose much.

    Review-OEM 4mp AI Cam IPC-T5442TM-AS Starlight+

In Europe we have PAL video standard which is 25fps. Everything above 24fps should appear to your eyes as smooth motion. So both PAL and NTSC apply to this rule :)

    Review-OEM 4mp AI Cam IPC-T5442TM-AS Starlight+

@zape Your DAV file has every 5th frame doubled. These are not dropped frames but added ones. That's why files do not match in duration. Try setting the camera to 25fps and compare again.

    Dahua in extreme weather conditions

This is how a Dahua setup behaves when straight line wind strikes: This is a gust front before the thunderstorm in Poland last month. I will mark, that each roof tile weighs 4-5kg

    How warm is Dahua cam?

Here are some thermal images, done with FLIR camera of my HDW4231EM-AS and HDW5831R-ZE cams. The air temperature was exactly 3.3 Celsius degrees (38 Fahrenheit). No wind or sun influence (it was overcast day). So if you are worried, that you camera can freeze in low temperatures… stay cool :D...

The only sensor that matches, is this one: Image Sensors World: Smartsens Unveils NIR-Enhanced 4MP Sensor It's so new, that it is not even listed on their official website.

    Pre-event recording to SD card

Ok. Maybe I wrote it incorrectly. The cards are not dead, but lot of errors occur. Some files are unreadable or choppy (lot of dropped frames). I use 64GB Sandisk Ultra A1 class micro SD.

    Pre-event recording to SD card

Hi all. I’ve been using Dahua cams for a 1.5 year now, and I’m pretty happy with this equipment. There is however one thing that is bothering me. I use my cams only with micro SD cards. It makes the system as simple as possible. Every cam is powered by separate 12V UPS, which makes every cam...

    Dahua HFW-1831E in-depth review

@vidmo I know, I messed up with sides :) But it was too late to correct it, when I realized that. 87 degrees is correct. It has identical FOV as 4231EM-AS with 3.6mm lens. @M1CHA3L Varifocal version has slightly darker lens at wide side - f1.9 (1831E has f1.6 lens) which means it won't be as...

hopefully a quick "need advice" thread :)

@eleazar Before you go with 1831E just remember it has a problem with resetting date and time. This can cause problems when using day/night profiles. When the clock resets, it might suddenly change to day mode during night or vice versa. You can of course synch the clock with NTP, but I haven't...

    Dahua HFW-1831E in-depth review

Indeed, something is wrong in these specs. A 4mm lens gives identical FOV as my 4231EM-AS with 3.6mm lens.
